Is that Joss Whedon? A familiar face makes a guest appearance in the first issue of Bendis' and Oeming's relaunched series POWERS.

That's full of Whedony goodness.
Awesome. Totesome, even. Dig the vest. I love the fourth panel. I think we've all seen him make that expression.

I wonder what his powers are.
I assume the girl is a Fox exec?
He has fists of power.
Fists of glowy blue power. It looks like he can maybe kinda fly with it too? Or fall with style anyway.
This reminds me of when Warren Ellis turned up in Powers.
I want a Joss comic! The Dark Avenger...hang on, that's already been done!
Well of course he has fists of power. He's a writer! This is excellent. Is the comic out now?
Joss... The Man...The Superhero!
As per here, the comic comes out in November.
Two by two, hands of blue.
Thanks, zz9, for stealing my joke.
Personally, let's see SuperJoss take on Captain Hammer, with Dr. Horrible sitting in the sidelines, eating popcorn.
ETA: come to think of it, could SuperJoss be related to Gwen Raiden?

Imperialgeneral, I always go for the cheap, obvious, gag. :)
Actually, it's impalergeneral, and the obvious gag is always the best, especially when it's true.
And that goes for anyone who decides to create Super Tim Minear, too.
Joss... The Man...The Superhero!

Looks more like a Supervillain to me. He is fighting a cop.

BTW, Oeming was asked who he would like to star in the planned Powers TV show and he mentioned Nathan Fillion as Walker and Katee Sackhoff as Deena. Too bad both are on other shows right now.
Kneel ! Kneel before Joss and his Power Hands of Doom™ !

Heh, like it. Also, is it just me or does his costume look a bit, well, purple ?
Panel 1: "I ARREST YOU FOR THE MURDER OF JENNY CALENDAR, TARA MACLAY AND PENNY . . . PUREGOOD OR WHATEVER!"

Panel 2: "BY THE BELT OF MARTI NOXON, I SHALL WRITE THE SAME ENDTO YOU WITH MY HANDS OF DOOM™!"

Panel 3: "BUT WAIT: NO ONE'S HAD THE TIME TO GROW ATTACHED TO YOU YET. FOLLOW ME AS I LEAD YOU UP, UP AND AWAY ON A MAGNIFICENT STORY ARC!"

Panel 4: Thought balloon: "OOF. FIVE-POINT LANDING."

Panel 5: Thought balloon: "I REALLY SHOULD HAVE EXPECTED HIM TO DO THAT."

Panel 6: Thought balloon: "DANG, NOW I'M CHASING A WHOLE NOTHER DUDE."

Panel 7: BLAM!

Panel 8: "HEY! OVER HERE! BEHOLD THE AWESOME TWISTY-TURNY POWER OF . . . DOCTOR SCRIPT!"

Heh, Pointy :).

Sooo, Powers, eh? Been hearing good buzz for, well, quite some time now. Should I buy and read (I'm assuming the first bit's out in TPB)?
With a little help from Saje. ;-)
neat!

haha pointy & saje, very good.
GVH:

You can also read Powers for free LEGALLY on Bendis's site.
I meant to check out Powers back during an early Bendis phase when I had read the TPBs for Goldfish, Jinx, and Torso (and probably considered it again when the Marvel comic Alias was loaned to me), but never got around to it. I'm surprised and happy to see it's still going, I thought it had been canceled a while back, after numerous reprintings and whatnot from two or three different publishers (it used to be at Image, then it was Marvel, no?). Still haven't gotten to Bendis' superhero stuff, aside from Alias.
I wonder if now he's going to dress this way for Halloween.
No one needs to CREATE a Super Tim Minear. He already exists, under the name, Tim Minear. :)

And no, his powers are not those of cancellation, but rather he's more of a Phoenix, rising again and so on.
In my mind, he's playing the same person he played on Veronica Mars.
With a little help from Saje. ;-)

More like a nano help I think. Nice one Pointy ;-).
I want that vest. Who sells it?
Power Hands of Doom™? A phrase like that demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the sequential graphic arts, Saje!

Thanks for the tip, marvelknight616! :) I do prefer holding a TPB to reading it from my screen, but this is a great way to see if I want to buy this comic :).
Powers is Bendis' second best series of all time, IMO. (Of course, the first being Alias--with the original and very fictional Purple Man.) Highly recommended.

If you start from the beginning, you'll see a rich tapestry of story telling that spans amazing locations (including outer space) and awesome, gritty noir dialog. This is not your father's crime procedural.
Unless your father's Brian Bendis (averaged out over the entire population of the world it's almost exactly true though ;). And yep, happy to also wave the flag for 'Alias', brilliant comic. Small but perfectly formed.

A phrase like that demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the sequential graphic arts...

Or hands at least (of which i've long felt I have an intuitive grasp).
Well, we already know that Joss haunts the net at night in a purple cape.
GVH, I think the previous Powers series are available in their entirety as TPBs. They also started releasing the series in an oversized hardcover format. Two hardcovers are already available and I think the third one should be released around the same time as the new issue. Unfortunately the second HC has a printing error. One of the text pages was printed twice. The missing page is available as a pdf somewhere on Bendis' site.
Shouldn't it be glowy purple power?

And where's his superheroic pink backpack?

[ edited by Arsenal on 2009-10-19 19:52 ]
I assume the backpack is waiting in an alley with his civilian clothes in it.
Yeah fortunately it's only a text page that got misprinted rather than an art page, you can just print out the PDF and slot it in and it looks fine...
