Quotes needed! Whedonesque needs your help (yet again). The quotes section that appears in the top right hand side of the page needs to get updated with more Dollhouse dialogue. So please do post your favourite lines from 'Epitaph One', 'Echo' and the first four episodes of Season Two.

If you recall we did your favourite lines from the first twelve episodes of season one back in May.

I Lol'ed at this one from Topher while watching "Instict":

"The human mind is like Van Halen. If you just pull out one piece and keep replacing it, it just degenerates."
Okay, these should be one-liners, yes? I may have ignored that for a couple because I really, really like them...

Dominic: Did I miss anything?
Adelle DeWitt: Just the vodka, thank God.

Topher Brink: Alpha got it to work through a phone, nonetheless. Are you comparing my intelligence to Alpha's? Well, you're talking to yourself like he does. That's... a very good point.

Echo: You're taking matters into your own hands.
Victor: They're in my shirt.

Sierra: I love him so much more that I hate you.

Adelle DeWitt: Given that you're a raping scumbag one tick shy of a murderer. I can't recall, do you take sugar?

Adelle DeWitt: Or the last woman to whom you gave a permanent imprint, the other wounded flower you restored by offering her a new life. Who apparently found you so unbearable she had to flee the city, is it that one?

Victor: I'll wait for you right here.

Topher Brink: No problem, I can't remember your name today...
Very nice suit. It's three buttons again. Who saw that coming?
Adelle: Everyone who works here was chosen because their morals were compromised in some way. except you. you, topher, were chosen because you have no morals.

Adelle: I wouldn't let you near an active no sooner I would let a mad dog near a child

Topher: I can keep it...but I don't know if I can live with it

Topher:If I think I can figure out how things work,is that curiosity or arrogance?
Let's blow this bitch back to the Bush years.

*giggles*

Just kidding. Please don't use that.
"Mr. Dominic, get this man a refrigerator."

"My entire existence was constructed by a sociopath in a sweater-vest. What do you suggest I do?"

"No. Kids playing with matches. And they burned the house down."

"How's it feel to end the world, Ms. Dewitt?"

"What if she goes over your head?" "I'm very tall."
Oh, of course!

"I know what I know."
"Faith has taken my body, and for all I know, she's taken it to Mexico by now. I don't have time for bondage fun"
How about the new catch phrase, "Goodness Gracious!" or...
"Something bad is coming, like a storm, and I want everyone to survive it."

"You had a moral dilemma, your first, and it didn't go well."

[ edited by impalergeneral on 2009-10-31 00:09 ]
Oh, Dollhouse dialog. 8|
"I was wiping her and then my face exploded!"
Sierra: "I'm in Hell."
Topher: "Actually you're in Los Angeles, but I can understand the mix-up."

"Shine light on me
Your image reflected is all youíll ever see" - Remains, by Maurissa and Jed
Adelle: Mr. Dominic is my eyes and ears.
Topher: Can I be your nose and throat?

Topher: Mother ship!

Victor: I'm Kiki. I don't know how I got here, I sorta don't care... am I drunk?

Paul: You got a problem?

And I second Claire's "sociopath in a sweater-vest" line.
"You're human." "Don't flatter yourself."

"So, what? You're happy now?" "I'm not sad."
"I suppose I am at your mercy. In fact, if you would tie me down and spank me, there would be nothing I could do about it?"
"Mr. Dominic is my eyes and ears." "Can I be your nose and throat?"

"This is the Dollhouse, Frenemy!" (FRENEMY!)

"You're touching my face.."

"I'm very tall"

"You're human!" "Don't flatter yourself!"

"I'm running out.... of excuses".

" I don't wanna use the word genius, but I'd be ok if you wanted to!"

"I don't understand" "But it's so cute that you're trying!"

"How do you feel about ventriloquism?"

"Victor's loose, he doesn't have a GPS, and apparently he's a serial killer" "Aah."

"I can keep it. I don't know if I can live with it"
"Topher has ethical problems. Topher!"
Whedonesque opened registration! Long-time lurker first-time poster. "Party in my eye socket and everyone's invited!"

On topic...

Echo: I think he dreams.
Paul: Not anymore.

Paul: We're going on a little spree.
Echo: Shopping or killing? ... Joke!

Echo: My body's just sort of programmed to do this.
Ivy: She's not wrong.

Topher: If you tweaked an imprint I'll put you through that window.

Echo: (to the car) Go please?

Echo: Wait...who did they make me this time.

Echo: We are lost, but we are not gone.

Echo: Do you know who's real?

Echo: No one is their best in here.

(This is becoming Echo-heavy. Um...)

Boyd: I like his suit.

Boyd: Mr. Ballard. We were just about to talk about you.

Paul: You're working an angle.
Adelle: With the exception of the very special and the comatose, have you ever met someone who wasn't?

Ivy: Why is it moving?
Topher: Because it's designed to go where it's not supposed to.

Topher: It's the autumn rush. The temperatures drop the the high 60's. The leaves fall off that one tree on Wilshire. People need comfort.

Rossum-guy-whose-name-I-can't-remember: You wouldn't like our early retirement plan.

Claire: There is a physical need for something other than fulfilling the whims of the rich.
I third Dr. Saunders 'sociopath in a sweatervest' comment.
"My life was designed by a sociopath in a sweater vest."

"I didnít make you hate me. You chose to hate me."
Topher: This is the Dollhouse frenemy, nothing happens without my...what the hell?

Victor: You're touching my face.

Adele: Ah, Tempura Joe. Such a lonely soul.

Whikey: I have a problem with crowds, people, sunlight, open spaces, noise, pets. For some reason I'm just built that way.

And that's just from rewatching Act One of the season opener.
"Serial killer? Thank God!"
"There's no judging in the Dollhouse."
I forgot:

"You mean to tell me the tech that punk-kicked the ass of mankind was designed to make more believable hookers?" - Zone
"Would you like a...towel?"

"He'll be an empty-headed robot, wandering around Hollywood. He'll be fine."

"I wish I'd thought of that. Did I think of that?"

[ edited by mouse on 2009-10-31 01:30 ]
"Oh, great. Puberty again."
Deleted scene, but...

Paul: You need therapy.
Boyd: Treatment. You need a treatment.
"My name is Whiskey."

Claire: "Was I my best?"
Caroline: "Better."

"I hope we find me alive."
I second

Ballard: "Serial killer? .... Thank God."
Also,
Ballard: "Got a problem?"

So it's Ballard-heavy. So sue me.

I also wonder, on a personal note, why the directors are not making Tahmoh take his shirt off more often.
^^ Whoops meant Whiskey instead of Claire
Adding my vote to:
Zone's line about the tech and hookers.
Saunder's line about her existence being constructed.
Adelle's "Given that you're a raping scumbag....." line
"The world is a very simple place. At first." -Adelle DeWitt"

"Put the rats back in the maze, Topher. Before one of them bites you." -Dr. Saunders

"I've always been here." -Whiskey

"If I think I can figure things out, is that curiosity or arrogance?" -Topher

"I like my scars. They bring out my eyes. Without my scars I might as well be one of them." -Dr. Saunders

"I will shoot you very hard."

"So should I intepert this new concern as pity? Curiosity? Deviant excitement?" -Dr. Saunders

I would also like to agree to the sociopath and no judging in the Dollhouse quotes.
Dad: "This way?"
Zone: "Yup, straight ahead... Big ol' plate of chicken"

*BLAM*
Topher: "You haven't seen my drawer of inappropriate starches?"
Nothing to add, because Sunfire posted the one I wanted to - "you're talking to yourself like he does. That's... a very good point". Other votes, which seem to have turned out Topher-heavy:

"I don't understand" "But it's so cute that you're trying!"
"Topher has ethical problems. Topher!"
"I wish I'd thought of that. Did I think of that?" (doesn't that one have an "Oh my God, did I think of that?" afterwards?)
"Did I fall asleep?"

(Or is that too obvious?)
"Art is power, cause they can't make it." Echo to Prya from Belonging.

"You're not looking hard enough. You never do." Again from Echo to Topher from Belonging.

"You lost me at brain" from Boyd once again from Belonging.

"Something bad is coming. Like a storm. And I want everyone to survive. They need to wake up".

(Blame all the Belonging quotes on re-watching, just noticing some additional great lines)

"I don't like this color." - Sierra
this is a brain. Normal, boring brain like your brain.

oh and " man reaction." has yet to make it up
Ballard - "I'm going to holster my gun. If you try to run or hit me with anything made of metal I'm going to unholster my gun."

Adelle - "I find 'lentels" completely incomprehensible."

Victor - "How can I be my best now?"

Echo - "I don't like this room anymore. Where are the better rooms?"

Boyd - "Hey... Wow... Did not maintain control of that situation"

I could do this all day
Ok this is a stupid question but... top right of which page has a Quotes link? I can't find it...
"You mean to tell me the tech that punk-kicked the ass of mankind was designed to make more believable hookers?" - Zone

Definitely this.
"When did you learn to lie, Echo?" -- Not sure I have the wording exactly right
"Terry Marien Karens? Any part of that a guys name?"
"One of my personalities happens to be a multiple personality, BUT that doesn't make me a multiple personality."

Sorry if it's already been used
"You lost me at 'brain'."
Boyd: "Topher, in a van outside you'll find containers of sulfuric acid a plastic sheet and some tools."
Topher: "What?...What are you talking about?"
Boyd: "Consequences."

Boyd: "...Yeah, it's me, been a while...yeah, I'm gonna need 'The Goose' is he around? ...Yeah, I'm gonna need someone...disappeared."
"Love ties you down to the pains." [lyric from Remains]
"You're like a ninja!"
sab39, its not a link, but a quote is cycled at the top right of every whedonesque page (just under the photos)
Epitaph One is chock full of good quotes...

"I found your friend."

"With the obvious exception of yours, the human brain is a massively powerful creature."

"I'm sorry, but whence this clown? Did Idi Amin turn down the job?"
undercover Echo to new husband (Jamie Bamber): "I love you. I am, and always will be ... Mrs. Eleanor. Penn." (Vows)

"Do you trust me?" "With my life."

Adelle to Paul: (something along these lines): You can't just walk into a place that everyone knows does not exist.

just about everything said by Patton Oswald's character EXCEPT the line about Kindle.

all interviewee comments in Man on the Street.

Paul to Mellie, in his dream about Echo: "I have something she NEEDS."

Boyd to Whiskey: "Most of the people I know are pretty poorly constructed."

Dominic to Echo: "No, I'm really sorry I tried to kill you. Who DOES that?"

Dominic cooing as he pets his suit.
Boyd:Topher is having ethical problems. Topher!
Well this has been pretty much covered. but in case the decision is based partly on hw many people mention a specific quote, these are my picks:

>My entire existence was constructed by a sociopath in a sweater-vest. What do you suggest I do?

>Mr. Dominic, get this man a refrigerator.

>You had a moral dilemma, your first. And it didn't go well.

>Most of the people I know are pretty poorly constructed.

>You lost me at 'brain'.

>I've always been here.

>Put the rats back in the maze, Topher. Before one of them bites you.

>He'll be an empty-headed robot, wandering around Hollywood. He'll be fine.

>Given that you're a raping scumbag one tick shy of a murderer. I can't recall, do you take sugar?

>Let's blow this bitch back to the Bush years.

I know there are a few from Alpha, from both Briar Rose and Omega. Anyone know if there are entire transcripts online?

EF: mistake

[ edited by Shey on 2009-10-31 07:05 ]
Alpha: Carrots! Medicinal carrots! Personal use medicinal carrots that were here when I moved in and I'm holding it for a friend!

(also, yay for open registration!)
Can I vote against anything about blowing away bitches or serial killers having unmanly names? It would sadden me.

More votes for:

"My entire existence was constructed by a sociopath in a sweater vest, what do you suggest I do?"
"You mean to tell me the tech that punk-kicked the ass of mankind was designed to make more believable hookers?"
"I have a problem with crowds, people, sunlight, open spaces, noise, pets. For some reason I'm just built that way."
"I don't want to use the word genius, but I'd be ok if you wanted to!"
"Given that you're a raping scumbag one tick shy of a murderer. I can't recall, do you take sugar?"
"The human mind is like Van Halen. If you just pull out one piece and keep replacing it, it just degenerates."
"They're a little bit Bison."

I know there are more....
I also vote for all the quotes the majority think are the best, you all know what they are.

Or most of you do at least ;).
Topher: ... could also give him a man reaction.
Adelle: I choose not to hear that.
Anything about brains, sweater-vest and fridges gets my vote.

Also, yey for open reg! Only took me a few years to time my lurking properly...
Oh, and more votes for Sunfire's suit quote and either/both of the brain quotes.

Nice that membership is open. I un-lurked 2 years ago today.
For me the obvious one is Echo (imprinted in the little girl) in Epitaph One: "I hope we find me alive". That little quote really opened up all the possibilities of Dollhouse for me.
Hey, off topic, I thought DH was supposed to be on last night. Instead, I got a House rerun. Anyone know what's up?
It won't be back on till December 4th.
Another vote for the sweater one.
And in case they haven't been said already:

"I'm not as comfortable with you saying that word as I thought I would be"
"Fighting crime by listening to Echo have sex - it's terribly noble."
"We are lost, but we are not gone"
"You need a frickin treatment!"
"There's no judging in the dollhouse."
"A guy's asleep, could've been Fozzie Bear and it would've - not that I think of Fozzie Bear. "

And yay for open registration :D
The first of mine is by the guy in the Dollhouse Boutique,

"So not exactly a rocket scientist then? Normally that would be irony but here one never knows."

"I'm like the Scarlet lady with an F on her chest" - Kiki/Echo

"Hearn called me a nerd. Is he a 4th grader?" - Topher

"But that would be lying. I'm just kidding. We should totally lie. For the ethics." - Topher

"Everyone likes to take a little something home from the office once in a while." - Hearn.

And finally, two from Echo, as the Party Minx talking up Nolan.

"How good you are is history's business."

"Let them think they have the power. Our time will come."

Thanks for allowing my reg.
"I don't want to die. I'm not even real. I'm in someone else's body, and I'm afraid to give it up. I'm no better than you. I'm just a series of excuses." -- Dr. Claire Saunders

Topher: Is this your idea of a joke?
Claire: You designed me, Mr. Brinks. I guess it must be your idea of a joke.
"I am all of them... but none of them is me."

I believe most of the other quotes are already mentioned, though it would be nice if we could find transcripts somewhere.
"Hello, Victor."
Goodness Gracious.
Reading this made me wanna watch Dollhouse... again. Such hard work ;)
Adelle: We have a new Sierra.
Topher: Let me guess, is she attractive? Little bit?

But I'd have to rewatch belonging to make sure I got it right. Also:

(to Boyd)
Topher: Look, uh, this is a brain. Normal, boring brain like your brain. This... is a brain on drugs
Sierra: "I'm not comfortable with Orientals." (Vows)

Ivy: "Have a seat."
Sierra: "I supposed I'm at your mercy. [lowers her voice] In fact, if you were to tie me down and spank me, I couldn't hardly be expected to resist, could I?" (Vows)

Madeline: "Adelle, don't misunderstand. It's nice to see you. But I have this irrational fear that if I say one wrong thing, men in suits are going to throw me in a black van and take me away." (Instinct)

and all the other repeated posts of Dr. Saunders/sweater vest quotes
"They even programmed me to think it was endearing how quick you were." Pria/Sierra

"I'm wet." Echo

Yay open reg! <3 Whedonesque!
Actually, there's tons of good quotes at this blog (I found it while looking for the Pria quote): http://dollhousetvreviewzoo.blogspot.com/

The exchange between Kiki/Echo and the professor is particularly good. Intro to evil!
"Paradise wasn't built to take in strays"
Totally forgot that line, and it's one of the best out there!
We all love the sound of our own voice. That's why we're here...to keep our own voices.

Remembered it thanks to what trunkstheslayer said.
Figured since others are doing it, I'll un-lurk and actually contribute with intensely witty comments.
Also, I'm awesomely pleased that my username hadn't been taken.

Erm... any Topher quotes, really.
And Dominic in Echoes.
Topher love:

"Ok, *that*... is the minority vote. And you tricked it!"

"That's the contract. You don't know me, and I don't know you. Not fully, not ever."

"And BOOM, we win, we win boom."

"So which is worse, pick up the phone or don't pick up the phone? I can't tell... it's an interesting question..."

"That's brilliant! That's so... brilliant! Why didn't *I* think of that? ...Did I think of that? Did I?"
First time post here, I'm no longer in lurker status.

Some Topher and Adelle love particularly. And a little mix, love everyone's suggestions so far, this is fun to read.

Adelle: "Given that you're a raping scumbag one tick shy of a murderer. I can't recall, do you take sugar?"
Zone: "You mean to tell me the tech that punk-kicked the ass of mankind was designed to make more believable hookers?"
Topher: "He'll be an empty-headed robot, wandering around Hollywood. He'll be fine."
Topher: "I know what I know."
Topher: "I'm sorry, but whence this clown? Did Idi Amin turn down the job?"
Topher: "I don't want to use the word genius, but I'd be okay if you did."
Topher: "I'm not the bad man."
Adelle: "Mr. Dominic, get this man a refrigerator."
Claire: "My entire existence was constructed by a sociopath in a sweater-vest. What do you suggest I do?"
Topher: "The human mind is like Van Halen. If you just pull out one piece and keep replacing it, it just degenerates."

I need to think of more quotes outside of Topher and Adelle, hmms.
"I'm not the bad man" was a pretty intense line.

What's with the hordes of first time posters (myself included)? Did it not previously accept new members or something?
Whedonesque only accepts new members sporadically (certain holidays etc.) presumably partly for server load reasons and maybe partly in an attempt to avoid a "September that never ended" scenario (i.e. if you have to visit the site fairly often to hit an open sign-up day then presumably you must lurk a fair bit. Which means you'll already have a feel for the vibe of the site, the sort of comments considered good form, how the mods operate etc. Which is, IMO, A Good Thing™ ;).

[ edited by Saje on 2009-11-01 12:32 ]
Ahh, it makes sense, I like it.
Also I actually squeed slightly that someone whose username I recognise (from much time spent lurking) has replied to me.
Clearly, registering here is a renewed attempt at sabotaging my own degree :D
Well, i'm partly speculating but yeah, it does make sense (if it's just accidentally worked out that way then it's a happy accident IMO).

And no worries at all BTW, nobody really stands on ceremony round here - we were all newbies once ;).
Welcome, newlings!
Manreaction is the best username ever, Tim Minear can die a happy man.
Long time lurker, first time posting (thanks for the open registration, guys! :D)

Shocked more people haven't brought this one up:

Adelle: "You, Topher, were chosen because you have no morals. You have always thought of people as playthings. This is not a judgment; you always take very good care of your toys. But you're simply going to have to let this one go." (from 'Belonging')

Thought that line was one of the best in the episode.
Why thankyou gossi and Pointy :D

sarahb: I found that quote pretty creepy (but good) - not that I entirely agree with what Adelle said, though. When the (hopefully) inevitable 'origins of Topher' episode pops up, I'm betting we'll see that he's had morals all along, that his callousness is a self-protecting disguise.
He could turn out to be the most moral character in the show.

...*is showing obvious Topherlovebias*
Manreaction, good possibility. Remember this exchange in the first episode (Topher explaining to Boyd why Echo is nearsighted):

Topher: "Achievement is balanced by fault...by...a lack. Can't have one without the other." (Topher stares at Whiskey.) "Everyone who excels is overcompensating. Running from something. Hiding from something."
Boyd: "The past?"
Topher: "Sometimes..."
Alpha: Carrots! Medicinal carrots! Personal use medicinal carrots that were here when I moved in and I'm holding it for a friend!

That's the one I was trying to remember! The other Alpha quote I'm trying to remember (without going back and checking my recording) - from Omega, the one about "we're not multiple personalities - well one of us is .... " . Anyone?

*Waves to all the enthusiastic newbies*. :)
I believe it was -
"We're not multiple personalities, we're many personalities. Well, one one of my personalities happens to be a multiple personality, but that doesn't make me a multiple personality - I'm looking for a little nuance here."
Adelle: "Oh, my God! I find lentils completely incomprehensible."

Has always been one of my favourites :D
Paraphrased:
"We're not kidding, I'm not joking, he's not laughing, well he is, but the rest of us are dead serious."
- Alpha
Handler: "I wouldn't do this for my wife"

It just made me laugh.
