Fox Press release with details of the FireFly DVD content Correct running order and bonus materials listed. Street date given as December 9, 2003.

"All FIREFLY episodes are compiled on 4 dual-layered discs (pan and scan, aspect ratio 1.33:1)"

"Pan and scan" ?? Why's that error still in the press release? I thought for sure that we were getting it all in widescreen.
Maybe they 20th Century FOX really wanted to release it in fullscreen. Of course, Joss & Tim both say the show should be seen in widescreen.

Also, I'm wondering why "Shindig" and "Safe" are out of order. Everything else is in the correct order according to Tim.
Gosh, I'm sick of this -- will the DVD be in widescreen or not? Every time I read something it's a different story.
Don't know how much help this is, but Amazon.com lists both formats in the pre-order description.
Looks like the third week of December will be a busy one... I'll be getting Angel S2, Buffy S5 and Firefly all in the same week.

I feel weak and giddy with joy, must go lie down.
Amazon.com is even more confusing:

Up top it says:

"Format: Color, Closed-captioned, Widescreen, Full Screen"

But under DVD features it says:

"Full-screen format"

Can a brother get a definitive word?

if it was shown on tv in widescreen, why in the name of Joss(god) would the dvds be in fullscreen? i hate corporations.... its like they know exactly what we want, so they give us the opposite, and they know we'll still buy it... damn.
Especially irritating when we hear that Fox tried to release the later Buffy DVDs in widescreen, even though it was shot 1:33 (full screen).

These idiots are constitutionally unable to leave things alone. As widescreen TVs become more common, look for more of this retroactive widescreening of older, non-widescreen material, which is at least as destructive to the image as panning and scanning.

I predict that these same idiots will soon be trying to shove widescreen versions of "Casablanca," down our throats where Bogie and Ingrid will be without foreheads!

This has happened before in movie theaters, when classic films were re-released in the seventies with the tops and bottoms of the screen cut off in order to make it look like widescreen. This obnoxious practices resurfaced a year or two back at a screening (I think the movie was "The Adventures of Robin Hood" -- I'm sure the studio in question was Warner Brothers) hosted by none other than Roger Ebert. Obviously, someone was seriously out to lunch on that point, and, predictably and most justifiably, Ebert informed the nearest Warner Brothers suit just how giant sized an idiot he was. The suit's only response was that they didn't want to audience to think they were watching TV!
Are they referring to 16:9 fullscreen or 1:33 fullscreen?
