Eliza planning feature film with Joss. Hollywood Life doesn't have much info, but quotes her as saying: “I think we’re going to work on a kickass feature together that we’ve been thinking about for a few years.”

She also discusses a potential role for her in Ghostbusters 3, offered to her by her buddy Dan Ackroyd.

Not so hot on the Ghostbusters sequel...it's just been too long. But this other thing, now, that's interesting. If true, I'll be there opening night with bells on.

:::rummages in drawer:::

Oh, fishsticks. Hey, umm...anybody got any bells?

[Edited for spelling]

*crosses fingers*

*chants*

Faith, the Vampire Slayer.

Faith, the Vampire Slayer.

Faith, the Vampire Slayer.
I'll cross my fingers and chant with you....for just about anything that has those two working together ;)
Call me nostalgic but I'm excited about Ghostbusters 3 which is looking more and more likely to be happening and the idea of Eliza in it as a next generation Ghostbuster. Also I like the rumored role that Bill Murray's Peter Venkman is supposed to have.I don't know,I liked Indy IV,Die Hard 4 and Rocky 6.So I say bring on Ghostbusters 3.Eliza in it would be just the cherry on top.

Really curious what this kickass movie ELiza and Joss are working on together.
While I would LOVE a Faith movie, I doubt that's going to be it. If they can't find funding for an actual Buffy-central movie, I doubt they'd be able to find it for a spin-off movie based on a character that only appeared in 25ish episodes [not that they weren't amazingly awesome 25ish episodes].

But I think Eliza is an amazing actress and Joss, of course, has enough Jossiness that will make me want to watch someone reading from the dictionary, so long as his name is at the end we get to hear the "Grr Argh"- Mutant Enemy monster.

Super excited about this. One thing that's sad, though, is this: "Eliza is plotting a feature film even further down the line." Which, of course, means that we won't see anything about this until 2012 at the earliest...

*sigh*
Which, of course, means that we won't see anything about this until 2012 at the earliest...

As long as it's on or before December 20th. I have plans on the 21st.
If this comes to pass, it will make me more happy than I can express in one sentence.
I'm up for that reading from the dictionary movie. Knowing Joss it'll have some awesomely wild twist to it.
I know it's a pipedream, but I second the votes for a Faith movie.
Phrases I'll never get to utter, "my buddy Dan Ackroyd"
Could it possibly be Goners?
Anything's possible! :-)

No matter what it is, if it happens I'll be there on opening night.
It could be 'Goners', the horror/thriller Joss announced a while back. We haven't had an update on that in forever. And that would fit with the whole 'thinking about for a few years' qoute. But if that's true, this is the first we're hearing about Eliza involvement. I'm just happy she's staying in the 'verse instead of going off to do 'Wrong Turn 5: The Last Turn' or some other cruddy horror movie.
I would love Ghostbusters 3! Sigourney and Eliza! I would love to see Anna Faris as one of the new busters as well! Maybe Aly Hannigan too!

Anyway, I really hope the other film she's talking about is Goners. However, I hope she's not in the lead (I want a fresh face,) instead working in the supporting cast or even just as a producer.
BAFfler: Hey, umm...anybody got any bells?

Here you go.

(If that one doesn't work for you, try this one.)

It'll eventually make you deaf or drive you buggy ("Of the bells, bells, bells, bells, / Bells, bells, bells - In the clamor and the clanging of the bells!") but it's sorta fun for a while.

Interested to hear more... about this filmic project, not the bells.

Maybe it'll take another gouda pizza to get the project fully off the ground with Joss.

ETA: bubblecat, were Goners to have been set free by Universal it would be super-smashing, but I think the protagonist Mia was to have been a slightly younger girl. I could be wrong about this - that could just have been my impression...

Interesting...

Feature film with Joss and Eliza? I REALLY hope it's true.
Please, please let this be true! I would love to see her and Joss work on a movie together.
She also discusses a potential role for her in Ghostbusters 3, offered to her by her buddy Dan Ackroyd

Not offered. Mentioned. And with the way this blogger is spinning GB3 to make it sound like more than the complete rumor that it is, I'd be careful about taking that quote too literally just yet, especially since they're not even quoting her exactly word for word (adding their own interpretation). Wait for a more reliable source, would be my recommendation.
Doesn't matter. Whatever they do, I'm there. "Secret Life of Cabbage: A Documentary." Sign me up.
No - you're right QuoterGal, I thought she was younger...more like Summer's age really.

BUT....maybe Eliza could produce with Joss and play another character.

I just don't know of anything else in the works, not that they're not allowed to have conversations without. Erm....
I actually only saw Ghostbusters a couple of years ago (did see Ghostbusters 2 about ten years ago, I think,) so don't really have any sentimental attachments to the series. Still, I found it to be really enjoyable and would probably go and see the third film, particularly if Eliza is involved.

A new Joss and Eliza project? I would be all over that. Goners always sounded right up my ally and would be very excited to see that go into production. Was there not problems with getting that into development though? Don't remember the details, but I was fairly certain that we were unlikely to see anything happen with it until some issues were dealt with. Rights, or some such.

Faith movie would be incredible too. Not sure how that would work though. The comics would have to be acknowledged in some way, which could get awkward for those that aren't reading them. I haven't read much of them myself (first 20 issues,) but I know that Faith is already in a different place to where she was at the end of the series.

Personally, if a Faith movie were to come about, I would be interested in seeing her pre-Buffy. It would be good to see where a lot of her issues came from, which are mostly only hinted at during the series, as well as her discovering her powers. Of course, there would be problems with Eliza reprising the role, but she could certainly be involved as a producer.
I've got much respect for Eliza (earned from Dollhouse, btw). So I'm in. You know, assuming this one is reported properly.

Personally, if a Faith movie were to come about, I would be interested in seeing her pre-Buffy.

Would that possibly involve fighting the vampires while stark naked?

...Just curious.
Hmmmmm, I don't know. I would love a Joss project, but I don't know how I feel about Eliza right now. It depends on what the role was.
I'm not sure if the PTB would ok a Faith movie if the Buffy movie is in the pipeline. I reckon it would be a brand new franchise.
Exciting stuff. Not a massive Eliza fan, but I'm interested to see any further details on this project
I think she'd be a good Fray.
Dichen Lachman is Fray. Just FYI.
I'm excited for Ghostbusters 3, whether or not Eliza's in it.

Please let the Joss/Eliza movie be FAITH!!!!
F all y'alls I, this is the most recent Goners "news"/discussion that I'm aware of, from September '09:

Whedon: I wish I could say something about Goners. Universal, release Goners into the wild so it can be free again.

This is the site b!X made at the time.
like othera have said,I'd watch anything with Joss and Eliza. And I would love it if it turned out to be goners.

Weren't we supposed to know what Joss would do next by now? He said something like that a while back
If this comes to pass, it will make me more happy than I can express in one sentence.

Oh, well then by all means use two :).
If it's true, it is potentially the best news ever, maybe a slight exaggeration, it's the best news since the last Eliza-Joss project!
I wonder if by tomorrow the news will have morphed into that Goners will be released next week. Lets see....
It makes my heart skip to know that Joss and Eliza want to collaborate again. I love to see talented people remain friends and collaborators, no matter the challenges they face. I'll be happy to wait and receive the stories in whatever form they come in.
ManEnoughToAdmit...I believe there'd be some crocodile wrestling too...but naked vamp fighting and croc wrestling doesn't sound like a pg13 project to me...so i'm down for whatever(except body doubling...please stop calling me, Eliza!!!)
And yeah on the it would give me a happy bit...i may just lose my soul!!
I'm definitely excited for any new Joss project, but am I the only one here who isn't really that pumped for Eliza Dushku? She was pretty much the worst part of Dollhouse (aside from Fox's inevitable meddling). Which is not to say she was bad, but she certainly wasn't as amazing as, say, Kranz or Gjokaj.
I love the Buffyverse. LOVE IT. But I'm not really rooting for Buffy stuff at this point. So if there's going to be a Eliza/Joss movie, I actually think I'd prefer a new thing, than a Faith movie.

But anything that comes from them I'd happily watch, of course.

Also... FREE GONERS!!!
Personally, I don't believe for a moment that it's Goners.
she was pretty much the worst part of Dollhouse (aside from Fox's inevitable meddling)

I'm guessing you didn't intend it but I'd rather this thread didn't descend into yet another "Eliza ruined Dollhouse/no she didn't she was the best thing in it" discussion. As I'm over it.
Definitely don't think it's Goners, and Faith the Vampire Slayer will never happen. It's probably something else they've been bouncing back and forth while they've been working together. Doesn't mean it will happen.

Also, doesn't mean Eliza will star in it, she might produce it.
Re: Goners - yeah, nor I.

I do wish it could be freed, though.
Whatever this is, it'd be spiffy. It makes me think of Olivia Williams' comment the other day that she doesn't think Joss will do any more TV shows.

Also, for the record, it's Aykroyd, not Ackroyd. :)
Not Goners. Also very doubtful it would be a Faith thing, since Fox wouldn't pony enough dough for the DVD things.

I'm a bit Kaylee when it comes to new places to visit.
Well then - it's just rude them having converstations without me!
Personally, if a Faith movie were to come about, I would be interested in seeing her pre-Buffy. It would be good to see where a lot of her issues came from, which are mostly only hinted at during the series, as well as her discovering her powers.

Nicely covered in a "Buffy" novel (in air-quotes because there's not much Buffy in it), Go Ask Malice. No naked allegator wrestling in it, though.

Wishlist.

Actors: Eliza (obviously), Dichen (I know she's busy with the Fray movie, but I'm sure something can be arranged), Fran, Amy (you can't do anything really truly awesome without her), Amber (god, I miss Amber in a Joss thingy), Alyson (idem) and Enver.

Am I forgetting someone? Oh, yes, Maurissa. With a gun. A big gun.

If you don't have the money for all of them, just get Enver and a good make-up artist, it'll be fine.

Put some queer characters in it. Not necessarily lesbians, Joss, there are also gays, bis and transgenders. But if there are lesbians don't kill one of them before the end of the movie, ok? Thanks.

And spaceships. Spaceships are shiny. Everyone loves a good spaceship.

Am I being too specific?
Leave it to QuoterGal to get a Edgar Allan Poe via Phil Ochs song stuck in my head!

My first thought was "Goners," but if Joss has anything else up his sleeve, I'll be there with - um - bells on!
Much love for Eliza, Haters will hate, but she is awesome. A movie with her and the Joss Man sounds mighty fine to me. :)

Eliza in Ghostbusters? Why the heck not, not a fan of the fact they are even coming out with another one, but why not add some whedonverse flavor. I'm down. :D
geratongs3000: We're not terribly fond of actor bashing here, so you may cool your heels for a while.
I would absolutely love either of those. If there is any truth in the announcement, I will be very, very happy.
Nice. I hope they do something really unexpected from both of them.

I'm up for that reading from the dictionary movie. Knowing Joss it'll have some awesomely wild twist to it.

COMING THIS SUMMER... some words really can kill. [scary music]
I hope Eliza continues this trend of making Joss do creative things. If she can do that, she'll shoot to number one on my list of favorite actors :D
Ooh! Yes! Can it be a Firefly sequel please! I mean, I'd rather see Joss do a long serialized narrative, since it's what he's best at, but I'll take anything - yes! more Joss!

Also, he should write everything Hollywood produces. Perhaps he should be cloned.

No, certainly he should be cloned.
Ah True Lies 2. Of course.
Is Eliza becoming Joss' Robert DeNiro (vis a vis Martin Scorsese's famous partnership)? Just as long as it isn't a boxing movie. I don't know how you'd fit a good genre film into that.
This was such a nice surprise to see! I'd love if Eliza starred in a Joss movie, but I do feel like she has had her (awesome) turn, so co-starring in it or producing alongside Joss would be better. At least better received by the haters.

And I'm down with Ghostbusters 3, Eliza and Anna Faris as new ghostbusters? Yes please.
Boxing in space with cowboys, alligators and naked vampire wrestling? is that our collective wish list?
COMING THIS SUMMER... some words really can kill. [scary music]
Well, she already did "The Alphabet Killer."

[ edited by barboo on 2010-02-27 00:00 ]
Don't see Eliza doing comedy so I guess she could be the 'straight man' on Ghostbusters.
As long as Joss adds Alexis Denisof to the cast, I'm there! :) But...I have learned to not believe it until the film has been greenlit by a studio.
Boxing in space with cowboys, alligators and naked vampire wrestling? is that our collective wish list?

That, and reading from a dictionary, Shakespeare, and Gouda pizza. Oh, and a pony. And maybe some killer bunnies. Yeah.

ETA: And to be involved in the casting process, which should start immediately.

Million Dollar Baby: the ultimate Eliza role that got away.

I would say there is zero chance Eliza or Joss or in fact the money people are willing to revisit Faith, especially on the big screen. I actually thought Eliza was becoming Rob Schmidt's DeNiro--he directed both Wrong Turn and Alphabet Killer. I think Eliza's best chance of success in acting lies in television, not movies. But she seems to want to produce movies.
Oh yeah definitively hopes she gets a role in Ghostbusters 3!
I think Eliza's best chance of success in acting lies in television, not movies.

Really? I was under the impression that Eliza had good success in movies--the big movies she's been in have done quite well, haven't they? Whereas her TV shows always get canceled.
I'm with maxsummers on this one. As much as I love Buffyverse, I'd rather have something new. If Joss wants to revisit Faith he can do it in comic form (and he actually does). Me, I'm dying to find out what other crazy ideas live in that brilliant head of his.

Bring on a new project!

A bit OT, CBS has formed a new film studio and released its first movie (Extraordinary Measures) a few weeks ago, which flopped. I just looked at the budget ($30M) and thought, if only they'd spent that money on a Joss project. It would have pulled more than $12M in the BO, and would have later sold on DVD in millions. Who runs these studios, I ask you.
The Adventures of Faith and Spike would be epic win too.
I can't imagine that it would be Goners. Though the comment from Eliza would tend to suggest that it could be, my instinct just tells me that it will never see the light of day. Which is dissapointing, and fate, please prove me wrong on this point, but it just seems like the film is a....and I'm not even going to make that pun.

As regards to Faith the Vampire Slayer, I never thought I'd say this, but I've kind of moved on from the Buffyverse. Thats not to say that when the day arrives that Whedon announces his all new, all incredible television spectacular I won't be salivating with ridiculous anticipation, and whilst the franchise still has a lot of dense mythology that can be explored, after seeing Dollhouse, and Firefly, there is just too much potential in this mans head for us NOT to explore more interesting and less expected routes. (I cannot however extend this to the concept of Ripper. I want, and I want now now now).

Whilst part of me longs for a new television series, as it is my favourite medium, I'm also interested in seeing just exactly how Joss handles a feature film. I don't think Serenity can be counted as a pure example, simply as we already had fifteen episodes of background and story that preceeded it. A completely new concept, new characters, new plots, all condensed into 90 minutes will, at least in my eyes, show whether he can step it up a notch. And besides. Lots of big budget, which methinks was one of Dollhouse's final episodes major failings.

And what can I say. I think Eliza is tremendous, and I'll watch her in absolutely anything.
Here's a thought: I wonder if Eliza wants Joss to be the screenwriter (and possibly director) for Wet. She first mentioned that she had a Lara Croft like movie she wanted to act in and produce in late 2008 while doing Nobel Son promo. Now it's early 2010, so that would make it a couple of years since then! Maybe Joss wants to write her a good female action movie since there are so few of those out there in the world. I could definitely see him being able to take a video game and turn Rubi into a fully fleshed out character with interesting supporting characters and villains. I would kill to see Eliza in something like that!
I like your thinking, Aphrodite.
That sounds plausible, Aphrodite. Good theory. And the world could totally use a good action movie starring a woman--there haven't been enough of those lately.

I vote for this.

(Not that I wouldn't love to see Goners .... and a Fray movie starring Dichen would be beyond cool .... but I'm not holding out much hope for either one.)
BTW, I haven't given up completely on Goners itself - I just don't think that's what Eliza is involved with, and I also doubt the script would've been released yet (if ever :( ) by Universal.

I think what Aphrodite (nifty name) said is certainly worth considering, especially since I picture any new film project they'd undertake together as being 1) something tailored exclusively for Eliza and 2) none of the projects that we've heard about for years. She may be producing, but I don't imagine her limiting herself solely to a behind-the-camera role - at least not at this point in her career.

So - she needs some... yeah, kick-ass projects to act in.
I would like to see Joss work with one of his very talented former cast members.
Dollhouse, the movie... like Firefly?
Thank you, guys and girls! I had a light bulb moment while reading everyone else's guesses and theories. I really hope this project is the real deal and that they're able to get it off the ground, whatever it is. WheDush is magic to me!

I also totally agree with everything you just said there, Quotergal.
I really like that theory, Aphrodite! I would love to see both of them get into something like that. Because as much as I love Joss' horror/thriller TV shows, I don't think I could take them as a movie. Me and horror don't get along unless there's commercial breaks :) I'm incredibly giddy about Eliza and Joss working together again, though, in any form.
Aphrodite's theory is the most plausible I've seen yet. Besides, that film would kick ass. As would any other Whedon/Dushku film, but I'm just sayin'.
I had no idea we knew anything about the narrative of Goners other than it starred a girl. Anyway, I'm disinclined to suspect that'd be it.

In the interim, for whatever it is, I'd be down with Dushku as a Ghostbuster. She doesn't do comedy? Bring It On man! (Before they scuttled Raimi's Spidey 4 I was sort of hoping that they'd gradually have turned it into a Bring it On reunion. And Dushku's Black Cat would get in a few bars of the musical action to sing how she's sexy and cute and popular to boot.) Also her reaction in Man on the Street shouting "Porn!" every few lines. One of the greater shames of Dollhouse (aside from certain sub-par episodes) is the fact they never got to do their romantic comedy genre episode...

And I've sort of gotten lost, so the Kazuis were sort of responsible for that Buffy remake but is Fox also attached in that case or no?

It seems like it'd be a win-win situation for fox if they either got to coattail any buzz the remake got, or alternatively they'd be getting money not only from the new wave version but make money off mid-wave fans of the TV show by dealing with the Whedonverse through Faith.

In any case, whatever the project is, as much as I've grown to appreciate Dushku I'd love for him to somehow get in a decently sized Acker as well. Or basically all the women he's worked with on more than one occasion. Plus Tom Lenk and NPH. And ASH. And Nathan. And why not give Sean Maher a shot too after he lost out on Dollhouse.

And now that I've brought up Dollhouse it seems like he could have gotten some further work out of relative newbies to the onscreen-verse like Olivia, Dichen, and Mo... And that girl who played Ivy.

Edit: Sean lost to Enver, who initially was the whole reason I went on that whole tangent about how awesome other DH cast members are in addition to Dushku, except I forgot to ever mention his name in the first place.

Here's a thought: I wonder if Eliza wants Joss to be the screenwriter (and possibly director) for Wet.

A year ago I would have agreed with you. But I think Wet is not the viable franchise that Eliza and co hoped it would be. The video game failed to make any kind of a major impact on gamers and reviewers.
While I'd personally be more interested in hearing about future works involving Firefly cast members (it pains me - to this day - how much untapped potential there is in that particular cast) it's nice to know that there may be any number of surprise Whedon projects to look forward to.

Edited for clarity.

Above all, I hope that Joss works with Olivia again. She was superb in Dollhouse

Sean lost to Enver

Is that true, orangewaxlion? I wonder where the hell I was when that came out
Yes, it's true that Wet wasn't anything that special, though it was fun to hear Eliza drop the f-bomb so often, and the game did get my adrenaline going a few times. It wasn't a bad game, really, but I don't see a Wet movie being too viable now either. I'm sure I would enjoy a Wet movie starring Eliza if one ever did come about, though.

[ edited by JAYROCK on 2010-02-27 07:24 ]
To back up orangewaxlion about Eliza in comedy, she was by far the funniest member of the CLIT in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

As for Ivy on Dollhouse, she was played by Liza Lapira, who I recognized as Yuki, the bitchy Internal Affairs officer who harasses Debra 2 seasons ago on Dexter (the Jimmy Smits one). Apparently she's in the upcoming Jude Law movie Repo Men too.
I vote for something completely new, and definitely not a Faith movie. I think Eliza has moved way beyond the character, and Joss has moved way beyond the Buffyverse, much as I love it.

Don't know anything about Goners, a possibility that came and went while I was busy belatedly discovering Buffy and the rest of Joss's work.

I'll be happy with anything Joss does and feel certain I'll love it. Not because of some blind worship thing, but because if Joss did something I didn't love, it would be a first.

I kind of doubt it would be a straight forward horror movie, since that's what Cabin is. Happy to wait and see. I'm a big fan of Eliza and of course, in Joss I trust :)
Dichen Lachman is Fray. Just FYI.

Totally read my mind, Gossi. I would love to see a Fray movie (with cameos by Spike and Angel). It would be awesome.

But that's a dream, so at the moment I'd happy with anything.
I'm just sitting here feeling grateful for a fresh new tidbit on which to masticate. All the recent threads referring to past Whedon glories has been getting me down lately.

But, that's probably my cabin fever talking. (Ugg. Four more inches last night.)

Anywaay, here's to future "FOX hotties," heroes, villains, Star Wars challenging archetypes, "sizzling tv couples," angsty triumphs, and mock-able victories ... *raises glass*
Sean Maher mentioned auditioning to play Victor in this interview.
On further thought, one impression that I took away from the whole DH experience was that Joss' characters seem to work out much better when he picks his actors to fit his characters rather than the other way around (perhaps an artifact of him being first and fore-most a writer?) which makes me less-than enthusiastic about potential projects (at least long-running ones) where specific actors seem to take precedence in the creative process over the actual characters to be portrayed.
Good action movies are hard to come by. Good action movies wrtten for female leads--women who don't play the girlfriend or the damsel--are so rare as to be functionally non-existent. Kill Bill was neat. It's the only example I can think of, unless you want to start broadening the concept to sci-fi vehicles that happen to contain a decent bit of action, and even then the movies are often crap (Resident Evil, anyone?) I remember SMG saying in an interview somewhere that she would have loved to be in Kill Bill, and I don't blame her. Whether or not that type of movie is your cup of tea, Tarantino has a flair for it.

I think Eliza will do better in television because she's not going to be offered the big opportunities in movies, she won't get to be the lead in some major blockbuster. I think the best she can hope for now, as far as movies in wide release, is small supporting roles like she had in City By the Sea. She was the star of Alphabet Killer, and I liked it (plus--Nate Ford! I mean, Timothy Hutton) but if it was in theaters at all it was there for a cup of coffee. She had some cache when she was coming off of Faith a decade ago but that was a decade ago and she has left Faith behind her. Her most recently released projects have all gone direct to DVD (or the Sci-Fi channel) or have been shown in a small number of theaters for short runs: On Broadway, Nobel Son, Sex and Breakfast, Alphabet Killer, Bottle Shock, Open Graves. Barring situations like Ghostbusters where she has a personal relationship with the people putting it together, I think television is the medium that will be willing to give her big opportunities and perhaps build projects around her. I do hope I'm wrong--it would be great if she suddenly made it big in movies. Of course there is an argument to be made that she already has made it big in movies--she's been in something like twenty films I think, she's worked with James Cameron, Robert DeNiro, Schwarzenneger, Leonardo DiCaprio, etc. But it's been awhile since I was able to see her in something that actually made a splash in movie theaters. Crossing my fingers--I'd love it if Eliza made it big.
You have no idea how happy this makes me! I cant wait to find out more. Eliza + Joss = nothing but awesomeness.

...I think i just geeked out again.

Could this be Goners? As she mentioned they've been thinking about it for a few years.

Random thoughts I had while reading this thread:

1.) We need a "Free Goners!" T-shirt. nods

2.) How about something like Repo! The Genetic Opera, a futuristic apocalyptic horror/comedy/musical?

3.) If Eliza can pull off an Irish accent, they should totally do a movie about Medb (Maeve), who was Queen of Ireland - her enemy was her former husband Conchobar mac Nessa, king of Ulster. The famous "Cattle Raid of Cooley" was started by Medb, to steal the prized stud bull of Ulster:

Medb insisted that she be equal in wealth with her husband, and started the Cattle Raid of Cooley when she discovered that Ailill was one powerful stud bull richer than her. She discovered that the only rival to Ailill's bull, Finnbennach, was Donn Cúailnge, owned by Dáire mac Fiachna, a vassal of Conchobar's. She sent messengers to Dáire, offering wealth, land and sexual favours in return for the loan of the bull, and Dáire initially agreed. But when a drunken messenger declared that, if he had not agreed, the bull would have been taken by force, Dáire withdrew his consent, and Medb prepared for war.

4.) Ripper movie! Faith looks up her mentor when the newly formed Council sends her to England to track down a rogue Slayer; Rupert reluctantly comes out of "retirement" to help her find the girl. Little do either of them know that an old enemy has taken possession of the Slayer, and plans to use her to open the veil between the worlds and unleash hell on Earth.
ShadowQuest...i don't think WheDushku(as someone up thread called them) would really cover the whole tain bo cuailgne tale...doubt it would appeal to non irish...but filming here in ireland would be nice...good idea...lots of folk do...and i'm available for camera and sound work...some light stunt work too but i'm waiting to get my shoulder blade fixed so maybe we can keep the falls to a minimum? let me know...
Dichen Lachman is Fray. Just FYI.

Totally read my mind, Gossi. I would love to see a Fray movie (with cameos by Spike and Angel). It would be awesome.

And Darkish Willow, depending on when it's set.
BlueSkies Yeah. I'm not sure it's "actiony" enough to keep people interested. I was thinking something epic along the lines of Braveheart.

On the other hand, if we went w/my Ripper idea, and just scooted it over to Ireland... See, 'cause I wrote a fic some time back called "Rayne of Terror," where a certain baddie was after Dagda's club to do in Buffy once and for all, and unleashed a slew of daoine sidhe on Sunnydale, including a cluricaune that moved into Spike's crypt and drained every bottle he had. In the end, it was a dullahan who "saved the day," but Giles had a big fight scene with said bad guy.

I could so see "Ripper" spinning off from the movie, and being about Giles going around to Scotland, Ireland, and such places investigating mythological disturbances. Wasn't that the original plot, after all? Faith could turn up from time to time, and then eventually become his (reluctant) partner.

Of course, I'd have to be there as script supervisor, so maybe we could get together for bangers and mash?
cool...i'm defo down as the "half his age woody allen type" love interest...in case you wanted to include that!!!????
BlueSkies Hmmm...ok. I can see how this could work. Ripper gets called to Ireland to investigate the mysterious appearance of a woman, dressed entirely in black, with a long, flowing black veil, who is seen on a hill shortly before someone in the village dies. Since this has been going on for decades, and no one can ever get close enough to her to question her, they assume there's something supernatural involved.

You'd be cast as...a direct descendant of the phantom woman. :-D And...to make matters even more interesting? You've just been called. And Faith has been sent by the Council to "introduce" you to your powers. So it's a totally chance encounter between the three of you.
haha!! dude you just totally got way into the fan fic bit...but really impressed with your old irish knowledge!! And can Joss and Eliza stop teasing us and just deliver the full details...with a script and storyboard please if it's not too much to ask...the suspense is killing me!!
Clearly it isn't Goners, it's Wonder Woman starring Priyanka Chopra, with Eliza in the role of Stevie Trevor.
BlueSkies Heh. Yeah, I guess my writing muse has come back to life.

I love researching Irish mythology; it's so rich and interesting. Plus it's my heritage on my dad's side.

(BTW - I'd cast myself as the mysterious lady in black.)

b!X So...are you saying...Wonder Woman's love interest...is a woman!??

That's so Joss.
I don't think "Goners" is a possibility. I think Universal acquired it during the buzz on "Serenity" but is just sitting on it. They're not developing it or anything. Maybe if great buzz surrounds MGM's "Cabin in the Woods", they'll get on it again.

It'd be nice if it was a Buffyverse/Faith movie, fat chance of that happening now.

FWIW, what happened was it got back burnered after what sounded like a long, arduous process of rewrites and studio notes that Joss didn't seem to be enjoying much, in the end. (My characterization, but read the fading quotes on freegoners.com to see the timeline.)

As annoying as writing/producing television must sometimes be, I would imagine the development process for movies, with the constant rewrites and polishes and script doctors and so forth, must be much worse. Joss presented Cabin in the Woods as a completed script and part of the deal when he sold it was that it was locked and there would be no studio notes, no rewrites. Buy it or pass on it but this is what it is. That must have saved him a lot of headaches, and I wonder if that's how he's going to attempt to work in the future with movies. It can definitely happen on projects he creates and owns--but on stuff like Wonder Woman for example, when you're writing other people's properties, that isn't an option. Maybe he'll only do movies he creates from the ground up from now on. More power to him if he does.
Yeah. The first thing I thought of when Joss revealed that Cabin was sold on the condition of being greenlit was "that must have been a reaction to Goners' ordeal".
I'd be supremely happy at the prospect of Joss and Eliza working together again... if it didn't seem like putting the cart before the advent of mammals. I'd like to hear something from Joss on this and then there needs to be an actual script and someone needs to be interested in making it into to a movie. Until then... my enthusiasm is being kept where it can't be hurt - in a safe padded box on the shelf next to so many other safe padded boxes that have never been opened.
Anyone else thinkin Faith movie? Gosh I hope so!! Well, I just know it's gonna be freakin awesome!
Only way I'd be interested in another Joss/Eliza team up is if she's Faith again. Don't get me wrong, they've done great stuff together, and I really liked Dollhouse, but enough's enough... he needs to stop using the same actors ad infinitum, at least in main roles. Ripper starting Faith would be amazing, I hope that happens.
Eliza was one of my favorite actresses on Buffy, and Faith my one of my favorite characters. Every year I kept hoping Faith would come back to the show. So when news broke that Joss would team up with Eliza for Dollhouse I was probably the most excited person on the planet. I'm game for anything they'd do together cause I'm certain it would be awesome. I really doubt there's a chance for a Faith spin-off movie at this point, and I really want to see the two of them work on something new and different and mind-blowing.
he needs to stop using the same actors ad infinitum

Why?

(That's mostly rhetorical, because the reality is, he doesn't really do this, any more than FOX "keeps" cancelling his shows, only two of which have ever actually aired there.)

It's not as if studio notes aren't beneficial if the studio likes a script but thinks it might need some polishing (in many ways it just goes the opposite direction and dumbs down a movie). Mind you, I think that's the way Christopher Nolan works too. Every interview with the studio heads at Warner Brothers says that he also gets no notes, no notes asking for rewrites, budget cuts, et al after selling the script to them.
Well, does Joss truly NEED to stop using the same actors over and over again like we need to breathe... no. Scorsese evidently doesn't need to use a different lead actor for 4+ movies in a row to be a successful award winning Hollywood director, either. In my opinion, it would just be nice for a change to see an entirely new vision, composed entirely of new faces (at least to his previous work), just by the same guy who happened to do my favorite TV shows of all time.
What about Firefly archon? 8 new actors + Summer Glau who had briefly been in one Angel episode

And of the 7 main characters on Dollhouse (Echo, Adele, Paul, Topher, Boyd, Victor and Sierra) six were played by actors Joss hadn't worked with before
Yep, Firefly is the best ever, forever. Dollhouse was indeed sweet also, but guest appearances by Fred, Wesley, and River (while all well done and entertaining, don't get me wrong), started to feel a tad stale to me creatively. I felt that the new members to the Jossverse were definitely the high points of the series.
Cabin in the Woods intrigues me... now if only it'd come out while I'm still alive to see it.
I love the 'verse actors, Joss' eye for casting is rare. With Dollhouse alone, we got to know Dichen, Enver, Olivia, Fran. All of them AMAZING actors and if Joss casts any of them again in other roles I'll be thrilled. And I'm fine with Amy Acker being in everything ever made.
Put some queer characters in it. Not necessarily lesbians, Joss, there are also gays, bis and transgenders.

Joss is well aware of this - remember Andrew?

Separately, I will not restart a Dollhouse war, but I will just say I'm not crazy about another Dushku-Whedon collaboration. Williams, Gjokaj, Acker, Tudyk, Marsters, Denisof, Glau...on the other hand...
Well, the list of amazing actors he's worked with is almost endless.

You have a point there. But when Joss and his buds like Nathan Fillion and Eliza Dushku team up, the results are almost always intriguing.

Guys, don't forget that "Cabin in the Woods" features an mostly new cast that haven't worked with Whedon before. Only Amy Acker and Tom Lenk were the 'returnees' there.
