The top five best Buffy moments. PopWrap picks Sarah Michelle Gellar's finest performances from the show.

Great, great choices (in fact, I suspect Mr. Wieselman reached in and pulled favorite Buffy moments out of my own brain). The "Prophecy Girl" scene was the moment that Sarah showed us the inherent sadness and pain of being the Slayer - and absolutely floored me. A lovely birthday tribute.
Really impressed with their choices here. Her performance in Life Serial with the time loop thing I thought was hilarious, cracks me up every time I watch it.

Good to see SMG getting props, she is a really talented actress, being able to bring both the funny and the heartbreak. BTVS wouldnt have been the same without her playing the lead.
Did anyone else cry, yet again, watching that clip from The Prom? Yeesh I'm such a softie.
My 'Prom' cry moments are Buffy as a puddle in Willow's lap, and Giles' ..."every now and then" as he takes B's umbrella and she turns around and there's tuxified Angel.

All brilliant choices, though I would have put her performance in 'The Body' in the list!
I love that gag in Hush. Has me in stitches every time!
I keep looking, but all I saw were Prophecy Girl, The Prom, Hush, and Who Are You. What's the fifth?
Life Serial - the time loop scene. There's a link to view it further down the screen I think.
There are so many great scenes. Two in particular come to my mind, and should be in the list :

"Innocence", in Angel's room, when she says "I love you" to Angel, now Angelus. Breaks my heart.

"The Gift", talking to Giles : "I wish my mum was here". She is incredibly moving in that scene.

And "The body" of course, the end of "After life", "Becoming" and the fight with her mum. Ah, what a talent !
Top five Buffy moments make my eyes sting.
I couldn't even watch the prom scene because I knew I would be crying by the end of it, haha.

All wonderful choices, after I finish my Firefly rewatch I'm inspired to do a Buffy one again!
Cudos for narrowing the list to just 5..I know I can't!!
Three random sniff-worthy moments...

Helpless - Quentin to Giles: "Your affection for your charge has rendered you incapable of clear and impartial judgment. You have a father's love for the child, and that is useless to the cause."

Potential - Xander to Dawn: "They'll never know how tough it is, Dawnie, to be the one who isn't chosen. To live so near to the spotlight and never step in it. But I know. I see more than anybody realizes because nobody's watching me. I saw you last night. I see you working here today. You're not special. You're extraordinary."

Innocence - Giles to Buffy: "Do you want me to wag my finger at you and tell you that you acted rashly? You did. A-and I can. I know that you loved him. And... he... has proven more than once that he loved you. You couldn't have known what would happen. The coming months a-are gonna - are gonna be hard... I-I suspect on all of us, but... if it's guilt you're looking for, Buffy, I'm-I'm not your man. All you will get from me is-is my support. And my respect."
I love this list. I would add the scene in "The Gift" that Nico-Angel mentioned and any one of several Buffybot scenes. The Buffybot was amazing.
Ah, Sunfire's mention of the Buffybot, as which she was always outstanding, jogged the memory about my other favorite Sarah moment - the end of "Intervention": "That thing, it wasn't even real . . . What you did, for me, and Dawn ... that was real. I won't forget it."

Yeah SMG often doesnt get the mad props she deserves.
Obvious choices for me:
Prophecy Girl constantly heartbreaking.
The end of Innocence.
Any single moment from The Body.
And she really brings the awesome in playing the Buffybot!
Really great list! Nice to see Who Are You getting attention; it's one of my favourite season four episodes.

Another of my favourite scenes is at the end of Checkpoint. Buffy's just made her big speech to the Watcher's Council and Quentin about power, they've ceded to her demands, and then Quentin tells her that Glory isn't a demon, she's a god. Sarah is just perfect in that moment.
Those are great choices, like SNT, always been partial to #1 on their list.

-- Love Buffy dancing with Angel to Wild Horses by the Sundays at the Prom.

-- Also wish The Body had been in that list

-- Buffy's death up on the tower with Dawn, is killer (no pun intended). Instead of being afraid of death when she was 16, she now embraces it to save family and friends.

One of my other favorite Buffy moments is during The Initiative season. Buffy realizes that she has been set up by Professor Walsh ( The I in Team):

BUFFY: Professor Walsh. That simple little recon you sent me on . . . wasn't a raccoon. Turns out it was me trapped in the sewers with a faulty weapon and two of your pet demons. If you think that's enough to kill me, you really don't know what a Slayer is. Trust me when I say you're gonna find out.

For me that was when she went from a little girl to a warrior. What Sarah did in that moment was tremendous. You could feel the steel in her voice.
Buffy's "I think I was in heaven - and my friends pulled me out" speech to Spike, in After Life.
Breathtaking lines, delivered with beautifully understated eloquence.
I agree wholeheartedly with Prophecy Girl. I was going to give up on the show after season 1. There were some good moments in the season, but not enough to sustain my interest. When that scene played, and I saw the powerhouse SMG was as an actress, and how the writers were going to take this tongue in cheek show and make it, more, I was hooked. And I never looked back. I'm so glad I didn't. There are soo many great Buffy character moments for me, that I don't think I can name them all. But "Giles, I'm 16 years old. I don't want to die", that was the moment that cemented it all for me.
I think one could make a top 50 list and still come up short of special Buffy moments/SMG's outstanding performances.
I don't think I could ever make a top 5 list of anything Whedon related! But I'm really glad that the time loop got put on theirs! I always forget how much I love that episode, but as soon as I remember it, just the thought fills me with such glee! I'll have to watch it again soon.
Buffybot! How could I forget Buffybot? She looked like she was having a blast playing that role! I recall SMG saying at Paleyfest she enjoyed being JM's slave for a while as the bot. Great stuff. But so much to choose from. And agree with Arison - that scene at the end of Checkpoint was excellent.
-The Body: 'Mom? Mom? Mommy?' *sob*
-Becoming Part 2 and all of Innocence
-The prom
-The Gift

Oh, there are just too many.

And I know this was from Angel but still,'I felt your heart beat...I'll never forget. I'll never forget...' *cries*
Thinking about this, SMG is a master of perfect pitch and timing, both dramatic and comic. Some other favorites:

Buffy to Spike, Never Leave Me: "..... You faced the monster inside you and you fought back. You risked everything to be a better man. And you can be. You are. you may not see it, but I do. I do. I believe in you, Spike"

Maybe not a popular choice, but for comic performance high points, the entire "under the influence" part of Beer Bad.

Checkpoint: the entire exchange with Travers and the other watchers ("You're watchers. Without a slayer, you're pretty much just watching Masterpiece Theater").

More comic perfection from SMG - Pangs, the entire ep. (Actually a marvel of ensemble comic timing all around).

One of my favourite moments of Sarah Michelle Gellars is the end scene of forever with Buffy and Dawn I think that scene was amazing she did really well!
Also in Season 3: Faith, Hope & Trick at the end when she tells Giles and Willow how Angel was cured before she killed him.
"I told him that I loved him, I kissed him, and I killed him" - gets me everytime.
There are so many I really think Buffy wouldnt be the same without Sarah.
My favorite Buffy & Tara (aka. Sarah and Amber) moment: Buffy confessing her inappropriate relationship with Spike to Tara, crying in Tara's lap, begging Tara to "please, don't forgive me" because she knew Tara would understand and accept her no matter what. I thought it was great acting from both ladies.

I liked the show and the character of Buffy from the start, but the scene in "Prophecy Girl" made me really care about the character.
Every time I see other former Buffy stars in current shows, I miss Sarah more. Why can't she be the one doing a guest bit on Human Target. Amy A. is great, but I really need to see more Sarah. She deserves it. By the way I love all the favorite bits all of you have mentioned, and, yes, Prophecy Girl was the one that made me care too. After that there are just too many great moments.
Heartily seconded, quantumac!
