Marti Noxon on the future of Buffy. Find out what she thinks of the possibility of a Joss involved TV reboot and the Joss-less reboot movie.

I've got to say, I'm not a fan of when people split up interviews into individual articles. Or was that simply everything that guy talked to Marti about? Odd.
She's doing PR stuff for Fright Night I think. I guess they're cherry picking the best bits.
How crazy is it to want a Buffy reboot in 15-20 years with all of the cast's children?
I hate the way she says "real tv isn't like that." Implying that Buffy wasn't "real" tv.
implying that Buffy wasn't "real" tv.

I think she's implying that Buffy was the perfect gig and what came after didn't measure up. She's not slighting the show.
Well that was quick, but I'm so glad she laughed at the movie rumours, that was hilarious!
@Simon - you are probably right.
Yeah, that's exactly what she was saying, I'd bet money I don't have on it.

I've missed her voice. Such a cut-to-the-chase kindof lady:

FearNet: There was talk at one point about perhaps launching a movie without Joss's involvement.

Marti: That was ridiculous. [Laughs] That was ridiculous. I think that notion was so quickly… I think that was probably some kind of muscle to try to get Joss to commit to something. That was my suspicion, that they were sort of playing a game to move the project forward. Because nobody wants that to happen.

Fact.
I can not fathom a Buffy movie or show without Joss' involvement. He is the voice of the characters. I imagine if one was to happen you'd see a fracture of the fandom to rival the heights of star wars OT vs PT wankdom.
What happened with Star Wars? i thought it was all Lucas?
Interesting- her comment quoted by quotergal is as close to what everyone was thinking but for whatever reason unwilling to say- that is, the everyone who comprises the people who could do the movie. But it's truth- no one wants to do Buffy without Joss, so what really was the game there?
Can't they just make another Buffy game to tide us over?

Very crazy. But very crazy like A FOX ! Albeit a crazy fox.

Yeah, that's exactly what she was saying, I'd bet money I don't have on it.

Fer sure, no ambiguity about it to me. I'll see your money you don't have QG and put twice that in money I don't have into the pot. In fact, what the hell, make it 3x.

So is the non-Joss movie officially dead in the water then ? Cos I can't say i'd exactly be distraught about that. Positively traught in fact, without wanting to be mean spirited about it.

Really? I assume most hardcore fans would say 'I'm not interested in that,' then shamefacedly rent the DVD. Any writer who took up the job would have to work on his or her own idiosyncratic vision, because there's no point recreating the show - so the movie might be interesting, but it'd just be another story set in a narrative universe familiar to fans, like the old BtvS comics and the tie-in novels.

This site hosts discussion among Joss Whedon's admirers and people who feel a strong connection to his work. Why would those folks care one way or the other about the Kuzuis' business interests?

Other than catastrophic parochial narcissism, of course.
almost cookies Well, all the cast doesn't have children yet :-).
Recasting with kids? Okay, SMG and AH both have daughters, Willow and Buffy are recast, DB has a son so Angel recast, NB has a twin, we can botox him or something. Ehm ASH has two daughters, but he should just come back as Giles cause he's meant to be around that age. So that's the core recast for season 1, JM has a son so we got the start of S2. Missing Cordy cause CC has a son, but we can work on that, volunteers?
I think this could work, great idea almost cookies!!
rival the heights of star wars OT vs PT wankdom.

Any care to explain what OT or PT means .Never heard of either of these terms .
Original trilogy and prequel trilogy. I think.
BlueSkies, can I just say I absolutely love your idea!
Thanks Nicole, but the credit goes to almost cookies for the idea!
Original trilogy and prequel trilogy. I think.

Indeed. The 'Star Wars' universe exists across two distinct epochs, BPM and APM - Before Phantom Menace and After Phantom Menace ;).
Blueskies, you forgot Alexis and Aly's daughter! She could be the new Willow. :) Other than that, love the idea.
I actually think that a rebooted Buffy show (with Joss at the helm of course) could turn out pretty awesome in this post BSG world. I mean, just imagine how dark and depressing that could end up this time around! And I LOVE dark and depressing! :D
Blue Skies emmy Actually, by the time Charlotte Grace and Satyana are ready for teen-age roles, one of Tony's duaghters could play the Watcher. (don't credit me, ShadowQuest thought of it last year.) Maybe Iyari's duaghter could play Satyana's sister? (Since I don't see either Joss reviving Tara or Amber doing the Mommy Track.)

It is true, no one wants a Buffy reboot movie to happen. Thing is, the producers of said project don't want that, either. Roy Lee (Producer of How To Train Your Dragon, Possession, The Departed, The Grudge, etc.) has stated the film is intended to be an excursion into the Vampire Slayer mythology. It's not about Buffy or those other characters. It's supposed to be a "Slayer" movie. Unfortunately, some people heard/read "Buffy" movie and ran with it. Mostly the media and entertainment news publications looking for hits and attention. The project is still listed on Roy Lee's IMDB page (only accessible through the subscription based IMDB Pro) but it is IMDB, so take that with a block of salt. If and when the project actually starts going into production, I think only then will it really click for people the story the producers are trying to tell.

While the idea of getting the offspring of the original cast to participate in a reboot is amusing, we can't just assume that these kids are naturally going to be good actors, or that they would even want to do this.

I agree with waxbanks. I prefer to approach this with a more open mind.
Kungfubear, I think WE have decided that they not only WILL be doing this, but that they will be the exact replicas of the parent they are replacing and will be just as wonderful in the role. Now all we have to do is wait...

And thanks for all the casting assistance! We're on a roll. 20 years time we can look back and say we started this!! GO TEAM!
Do we have a replacement Joss? I mean, I'm sure he won't want to be a full-time showrunner when he's... what? 60-65? Would Arden be up for the job?
60's not a bad age, it's okay. Arden could be Oz or something. xD
I've got a theory that The Avengers will slaughter the box office then Mr. Head Honcho Guy will trust Joss with a Buffy movie franchise that will out-franchise every franchise there ever was. Or will at least be a cult/critical hit.
I wouldn't want a slayer movie that ISN'T Buffy and the gang...can only speak for myself. SMG is still beautiful and young, more than capable or reprising the role of Slayer.
