Buffy Quotes for Every Occasion: Librarianship. A list of great Buffy quotes about: libraries!

Love it! I just rewatched Life Serial and that line always makes me laugh.
This sort of makes me want to go through and just observe the comments about libraries, librarianship, and Giles as a librarian... But then, I've also wanted to go through and compare the Latin for spells with the translation given. I could probably create infinite Whedonverse projects of this nature for myself.

Giles is my librarian hero for sure. I'm in library school right now. I first considered it as a possibility soon after I started watching Buffy, but it's taken me about ten years to get here. He definitely is a big part of librarians in pop culture, even seven years after the end of the show.
I loved the library set. I watch and re-watch films (even bad ones) sometimes just for the sets--and the libraries are always the best bits. There is definitely drool involved.
Kiba: Good luck. I was a school librarian and never for a moment regretted that choice. It is such a rewarding occupation combining research, administration, teaching, and best of all every day contact with students. I enjoyed helping young people with their academic and personal research.I strove to impart a love of reading and books with some success too. I absolutely loved it!!
Ditto on the good luck! I thought about becoming a librarian and I loved the library set on BtVS, it was very comforting.
Nifty quote project - combines two of my favorite things. Cool that there are more apposite quotes added in the comments. Like any quote list, this is a work-in-progress.(And yeah, Kiba, me, too - I come up with about one Whedony-project like this a day, but - where oh where is the infinite frickety time for these infinite frickety projects? I asks yeh.)

There are few things more rewarding than getting the right book into the right hands, and the right info to the right seeker. (I'm not a librarian - just a book junkie & ex-bookstore employee.) I am a HUGE fan of librarians and libraries and the folks that love them. It's my ship. ; >

The only Buffy-related product/toy I regret not getting back in the day was the wee library set. Cor, that was cool.

Oh, and an actual book prop from the show, than which there would be nothing cooler.

“The old man was peering intently at the shelves. ‘I'll have to admit that he's a very competent scholar.’ ‘Isn't he just a librarian?’ Garion asked, ‘somebody who looks after books?’ ‘That's where all the rest of scholarship starts, Garion. All the books in the world won't help you if they're just piled up in a heap.’ " - David Eddings, King of the Murgos
What was the one, "I'm just a former librarian with a tendency to get knocked on the head" or something to that effect?

Hmm, here's a few they didn't have:

"The vid library. I know it's not books, but it's still dark and musty; you'll be right at home." - Buffy, "Teacher's Pet"

"He thought it would behoove me to have more contact with the students. I tried to explain that my vocational choice of librarian was a deliberate attempt to minimize said contact." - Giles, "The Puppet Show"

"I've been indexing the Watcher Diaries covering the past two centuries." - Giles, "What's My Line? Part One"

"Do you have Theories in Trig? You should check it out."
"Check it out?"
"From the library. Where the books live." - Willow & Xander, WTTH

"See, a school has students, and they check out books, and they learn things."
"I was beginning to suspect that was a myth." - Buffy & Giles, NKABOTFD

"We have to go with Giles. He could get in trouble."
"He'll be fine. He's like Superlibrarian. Everyone forgets, Willow, that knowledge is the ultimate weapon." - Will & Xand, NKABOTFD

"You here again? You kids really dig the library, don't you?"
"We're literary."
"To read makes our speaking English good." - Jenny, Buffy & Xander, IRYJ
Seems like Jonathan's attempt to find books on Stalin is forgotten.

XANDER: Does this LOOK like a Barnes & Noble pal?

Not to mention: "Knowledge should be -- smelly."
I always liked their reactions to how different the college library was to Sunnydales.

Willow: You know I never wanted to hurt Giles' feelings, but occult books aside, our old library just didn't have the greatest selection. But this! ... This is a real library. (Someone shushes them.) See we even have to whisper. It's like a whole new world.
I am a teacher-librarian and I've just forwarded the link to all my library buddies :) Giles always did rock!

bluegrrl :It was in there.
Wow, go figure there's a lot of us librarians here! Count me in the bunch of teacher-librarians who are also Whedonites...
Thanks for the comments. Thank you to the brilliant Buffy writers who actually wrote the stuff. And thank you, Whedonesque, for mentioning me. I'm doing a weekly series, by the way, so please do check back next weekend.
Happy to do it, Billie Doux! :-)
I will be a teacher-librarian when I'm done with school. Thanks all for the good wishes!
I'm going into library science, so this was cool to look at. We need more cool representatives like Giles on television. Then again, he set the bar for awesomeness pretty high. ;)
