Whedonverse news from the Dark Horse panel at NYCC. Buffy Season 9 likely to start in August of next year, it looks like Angel and Spike will be getting their own titles, there will be a Dollhouse series and maybe a Faith title too? Update: Dark Horse tells ICV2 that Buffy Season 9 will be joined by an Angel monthly and Spike and Willow spinoffs. Dollhouse will initially be a mini-series.

I actually hope that Spike doesn't get his own long series, he belongs by Buffy's side. I would love to have a Faith mini-series much more then an Angel series. A Faith series is what a lot of season 8 fans have been asking for ever since NFFY and it's been hinted at again just this last issue.
Seeing as i'm the second 'Spray' fan on the planet, i'm also going to root for a Spike/Fray crossover, you could call it "Lost in time.", haha.

God I hope they give us a Faith series. I'd love it if it were a Giles/Faith team-up but I'm not sure he's gonna make it out of S8 alive so I'd take what I could get.
I will not be buying.
I will be buying.
I AM SPARTACUS!
I will definitely be buying.

A Faith mini-series would be awesome and maybe they could delve into her past as well?

I agree that a Spike full series wouldn't be a great idea, he's a good stand alone character but only in a mini-series, he should be apart of a group.

I would also love it if they would carry on with Fray, i wanna find out what else she would get up to after meeting Buffy and i actually do agree that it would be cool if Fray and Spike met.

Really can't wait for the Dollhouse mini-series, i've been wanting i to happen since Joss said he wouldn't do it. I also can't wait to find out what storyline they will come up with, I'm very sure it will be awesome because otherwise Joss wouldn't have done it.
I'm in it for the Dollhouse mini-series (hurrah!) - lots of loose ends to play with in that universe. I wonder if it follows on from the mini-comic with the S2 DVD? I've just read it and it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger...
Great news all around. And Spike can have a group in his own title, if that's the problem. Personally, I'm hoping to see a lot of mixing it up, since now finally all the characters are available and they don't need to worry about the actors' schedules.
I'm really loving the DC/Marvel feel of the new format. Also echo the idea of oving Faith getting a title.
I don't think we should say right off we won't be buying, without giving them a chance at least. I know I would, if I had the funds to afford them all.

I'd like to see some solo Giles myself, (yes I do think he'll make it out of s8)
This sounds awesome. I've said this before, but out of all the characters in the Buffyverse, including Angel, I think Faith is the character best suited to a spin-off - which is why the Faith TV series is one of my most lamented unproduced TV series. So I *really* hope she and Giles move off and do their own thing for a while.

But I just love the Marvel universe feeling of this whole thing. I'm excited for the miniseries and concurrent titles. It just makes me all giddy. It's like they're finally embracing the fact that this is actually a comic book universe now.

That said, I'm really disappointed that they haven't even started thinking about what to do with the Serenity title next year. Dark Horse is a good steward of Joss titles, but I really hate the way they handle this one. They put out one or two comics a year... it just seems like a waste of the title. And I think the Firefly/Serenity universe is even better suited for the comics medium than Buffy and Angel. It's a shame that they don't do much with it.

Super excited about The Guild.

I also hope we get some more Dr. Horrible next year.

Re: Fray. I'm actually oddly content with the way the Fray series ended. I mean, I'm not opposed to revisiting that story and that character, but she has a nice, well-rounded story. I loved it and it's definitely one of my favorite comics of all time, but I don't *need* any more. That's just a testament to how well the first story was told.

Screw you Gossi, I am sparticus.

I think if it were up to DH they would jump at the chance to do a monthly Serenity title. The ones they have done in the past are still big sellers for them.

I think it comes down to DH respecting what Joss wants to do with the 'franchise'. And right now he doesn't seem to inclined to go the monthly series route with SereniFly. Hopefully one day we will see the further adventures of Mal in some kind of format.

Yeah still hoping for that sequel. *sigh*
Joss is really kinda busy right now - I doubt a Serenity monthly is something he also wants to add to the list.
Willow spinoff too. Details to follow.
I'm disappointed that Brian Lynch's new SPIKE! series (starting this Wednesday, October 13th) looks to be cut short, I wish Dark Horse would consider bringing Lynch in to continue the series with them.

However I will be buying BtVS S9, Dollhouse, Faith, Doctor Horrible, Terminator, The Guild, and any Serenity they give me (and I'll check out Angel to see if they do better than IDW, because I stopped reading those ages ago).

Oh and Willow spinoff! I want the Willow spinoff!
I've added the Willow news to the entry.
Great news - but what about "Faith" spinoff?
Wait and see, I guess. I'd wager that it will happen. And I wonder if we'll see elements of the aborted DVD movies being included in the spin-offs.
Sweet merciful crap, PLEASE let there be a Faith series! I don't think I'll be sticking around for season 9 unless the end of season 8 somehow becomes too awesome for words, but I would TOTALLY buy a Faith series, mini as it may be. *crosses fingers*
Do they mean that Spike and Willow will have their own ongoing or just a miniseries? We'll have 2 ongoings Buffy and Angel and two spinoffs from the main Buffy series will be Spike and Willow.
So Spike, Willow and Faith are safe in S8 and through to the next round.... Dawn's gonna be fine because all the foreshadowing is just misdirection...

It's not looking to good for Xander or Giles at the moment, is it. This is really gonna suck big time. :(
Please, Dark Horse, through giant wads of cash at Brian Lynch as he walks down the street. He needs to be on the Spike team.

k?
So Buffy,Angel,Spike and Willow will have series in season 9.
Oh, I hope Satsu gets her own miniseries at some point. That would be kind of cool.

Dear Dark House, I'll throw giant wads of cash at you if you DON'T hire Brian Lynch. You could start the cash-throwing by auctioning off a print of this month's Spike cover. How fun it would be if DH auctioned the Spike and the Angel covers at the same time, and the fan factions could bid like mad.

Also, I'm among those thrilled at hearing about the upcoming Dollhouse comics. And I vote for more Faith, too.
I'm happy for more Dollhouse comics but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed it's going to be set in the Epitaph world. I really wanted to see more stories from inside the Dollhouse before the world went to hell. I'd also like to see back story for characters like Adelle.
