Heh. Incredibly doubtful, but this would be wonderful. I wonder if extra characters (like Carol*) are indeed being thrown in for upcoming spin-off's in the film though. Yvonne has is a great actor and it would be fantastic to see her get bigger.

(Of course, I need another 22 episodes of Chuck to bring the total to one hundred - then no more!)

*I don't know anything about Ms. Marvel or her alter-ego.

Interesting. She seems pretty good casting for that. But if there's any truth to this, I really really expect she'll just be Carol Danvers, no superpowers. In Ultimate Marvel, she's running SHIELD these days, so I'm sure they'd be able to fit the character in the organisation somewhere.

Love her in Chuck. And I'd love to see her as Jessica Drew, aka Spiderwoman. Or better yet, Jessica Jones, aka the retired C-list former Avenger (retconed by Bendis in Alias/The Pulse).

Her acting in Chuck recently reminded me of Carrie Anne Moss in the second Matrix film...specifically when she was a woman possessed, set on saving her man from a super baddie... "In five minutes, I'll tear that whole goddamn building down."

Was Carol Danvers the one who permanently lost her powers to Mystique in the old X-Men comics? And if so, would she potentially fall under the X-Men license, and thus not be available for use in The Avengers?

ETA: Um, I meant Rogue, not Mystique. Clearly it has been too long since I read X-Men. Or I haven't had enough caffeine today. Or possibly both ....

I'd really be surprised if Ms. Marvel falls under the X-Men license- there's plenty of cross-over between the X-Men and the Avengers in the comics (Wolverine spends time with both) but she's much more heavily tied to the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. side of things than to the mutant storyline.

(I am kinda disappointed that the separate franchises mean we won't see Scarlet Witch or Quicksilver in the Avengers, though...)

What Kishi said--yes, she was the one whose powers Rogue stole, but Carol Danvers has always remained much more closely related to the Avengers books. She first appeared in a Captain Marvel story, which is a whole 'nother thing again, and even the power-stealing episode happened in Avengers (Annual #10, to be precise).

I hope Carol Danvers aka Ms. Marvel will be in the movie. She is in the top 10 way hottest female Avengers (#1 being Scarlet Witch). Don't know much about Yvonne whatsit but she seems like she could pull it off.

Did I mention that Scarlet Witch should be in the movie too? Joss should do the Millar Ultimates version of her and her brother, because they were crazy dysfunctional. In fact, I really hope Joss infuses the Avengers with a lot of Millar's vision, especially the way he emphasized everybody's flaws and demons. Ultimates is the best Avengers book i've ever read.

No, the Scarlet Witch and no Quicksilver debuted in X-Men as members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants before they reformed and joined the Avengers. They--and especially Wanda--spent a lot of time with the Avengers, but if that debut wasn't enough, once they were revealed to be Magneto's children, there was no way back.

Thanks, Niels, very impressive knowledge of Marvel lore. I'm curious how we know about these licensing rights, and that certain characters (such as SW and QS) are in the Xmen bundle rather than the Avengers bundle. Are these contractual rights public knowledge? Or is there some pre-set way to determine which characters fall into which bundle? Just curious.

I imagine that the contracts must be fairly specific (and therefore extremely long). It can't just be about first appearances--for instance, Sabretooth, Wolverine's #1 nemesis, didn't even debut in an X-comic at all but has been in two of the movies.

I remember that Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch came up specifically in an interview, though. Someone asked because of their double role in the two team franchises.

As I understand it, when Fox bought the X-Men rights in the late 90s, the deal included all mutant characters in the Marvel lineup, regardless of which titles they'd appeared in, comics-wise. Had Marvel known the films had done so well, the deal would probably have been a lot different.
