More details about Kevin Pennington's role in The Avengers. He'll be playing Quasar. Also, there will be some publicity event in NYC during filming where you can meet various cast members.

The original article from ComicBookMovie.com is still listed on the website, but clicking the link to view the article gives an error (otherwise I would have linked to that directly).

Press release:
During principal filming, SHIELD will be out in full force in NYC to recruit and find new members. Cast members on hand include Samuel L. Jackson (Director Nick Fury), Clark Gregg (Agent Phil Coulson), Cobie Smulders (Agent Maria Hill) and Kevin Pennington (Agent Wendell Vaughn). Fans will get the chance to meet the stars and get their photograph taken with them at the event.

Ok...actually just did a bit more research, and found that he's apparently been signed onto this for a while, according to a link posted here in May of last year. I don't think there were any official character details at the time, though.

Quasar? Very cool! I'd also be super thrilled if we got a glimpse of SHIELD agent Eric O'Grady.
They don't have hardly any women, but they have Quasar? What's up with this?
I tweaked the headline to reflect that he's been on board for a while. There's also a fair bit speculation that the press release is a load of old cobblers. So this entry may vanish at some stage if it turns out to be a hoax.
Some posters on SHH's forum think its a fake rumor.

I guess he's been 'allegedly' tied to other marvel roles before.
Sounds like it's not so much "playing Quasar" as "playing Agent Vaughn"...
Big Shiny Robot has some more information, including the fact that another similar event has been planned with the cast for ComicCon:

But we’ve received an alarming amount of mail about it. We’ve received a few independent confirmations that this press release did come out, though we still haven’t seen anything first hand. According to these additional sources, the press release was sent with confidentiality agreements and there were intimated threats that if the news leaked the events would be cancelled since it was difficult enough to get Samuel L. Jackson to agree to these public appearances.

It was also speculated (and it makes sense) that the excerpt of the press release that we were given was not verbatim from the actual release. The source put the details of the event in his own words in order to further separate the original from him so that he might not be identified. Those that called out the release because of its wording had cause to.

They're reaching out to Marvel for comment, so that may be a good place to check for updates.

Also, here's a link to the original story from ComicBookMovie.com

I get the feeling that a lot of these characters are being included more as easter eggs for the fans of the comics. Their name is given, and fans will know who they are, but they probably won't have a whole lot to do with the story.
I dunno, fans get angry really easily. ...Which I suppose seems counter-intuitive. But yeah, I mean like I was annoyed with X-Men the Last Stand particularly since they threw a bunch of random ethnic characters--some of whom were good guys-- in as cannon-fodder baddies.

And I feel a little guilty for continuing to put off any viewing of X-Men Origins Wolverine but until this Matthew Vaughn reboot/prequel they had Emma Frost, a character Joss used pretty brilliantly, as a kind of one-note "doesn't this look cool" character from the sound of it.

Anyway, this is actually a cosmic character whose existence I'm barely aware of, let alone familiar with. I'd be intrigued if this is at all setting up for anything in terms of fantastical scale. (I suppose with mutants and Spider-Man off limits they might be looking towards other ways toward broadening the scope?)

Also this actor is incredibly handsome but I'm curious if anything comes of this, not knowing anything of his talent and his IMDB resume mostly saying stuff like "Abercrombie boy" or other descriptors playing off how hot he is. It seems slightly weird that Marvel would have been pursuing this guy so hard for projects. (That is, unless maybe they'd like to transform an unknown into a higher profile who they can keep contracted at reasonable rates?)
ign have a comment from Marvel saying this isn't true...oh well.
Well...the comment from Marvel is a bit odd. "[T]his particular press release is a fabrication."

That sounds really, um, avoidant. Is there another press release that isn't fabricated? Keep in mind the earlier speculation about the release:

Kevin Pennington is similarly evasive:
please don't believe in anything unless it's on variety, deadline, or if the studio confirms it. Nothing is official until then.

and

plus that "press release" looked like shit

Not, "No, I'm not involved." but "Nothing official until it comes from an official source." Well, duh.

I'm not 100% convinced that this is completely false info...still seems a bit up in the air to me.
Ok, here's the absolute 100% denial from Kevin Pennington:
Anybody an imdb expert? Need to get avengers off there. I haven't signed for any character in that movie.
