18 facts you might not know about "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Some stuff we all know, but some interesting tidbits some just might not, too.

Awwww James Marsters as Eeyore. I think my cute-o-meter just jumped off the charts.
Hmm I don't buy some of these. I thought Britney ended up not doing "I Was Made to Love You" because SMG didn't want her starpower distracting from the show. Nevertheless, I agree that it would have been a very tacky stunt to pull right before "The Body".
I thought it was Ear Shot that was rescheduled due to Columbine.
James Marsters isn't THAT comfortable with onstage nudity. Sarah Michelle Gellar made it rather uncomfortable for him, making jokes about his "modesty sock". Faced with a similar predicament, I think I would have told her, "Fine. You want to make fun, let's see you try this! Grab the pasties and we'll both see how we deal with modesty."
I thought it was Ear Shot that was rescheduled due to Columbine.

Both episodes were delayed. For Graduation Day, Part II they insisted on waiting until all of the graduation ceremonies around the country were complete. It was agonizing!
Yeah, Graduation day part 2 aired I think over a month after part one. Earshot aired much later after that.
I know about SMG originally auditioning for Cordelia but I'm pretty sure Charisma was never picked as Buffy. I also don't think Brittany turned down BtVS (pretty sure it was the other way around) and, although they did air Graduation Day at a later date, this is the first time I've heard anything about the script being rewritten.
Yeah i think in the original script I found on BuffyWorld their final lines are all about how great it was that they blew up the school. Funny, but they were right to change it in light of everything.
Yeah, I don't know that they actually rewrote anything for Graduation Day. The only thing I did hear is they cut some of the explosion out. Cuz I'm sure that made a huge difference.
I like the Mr Burns bit
Gosh, little Sarah is so cute!
I always wondered why Angel lost his Irish accent but Spike never lost his English one. Is it because David's Irish accent was so completely awful? :)

I am so glad they choose to have Spike use an English accent instead of a southern one. English accents are incredibly sexy!
I think Spike kept his accent because he spent the majority of his time in Europe after being turned.

If I'm not mistaken Angel was chased out of Europe and retreated to the safer America whose populace was way less aware of the existence of vamps.
Was Britney Spears really going to star as April, Warren's robot girlfriend in Season 5?

Joss Whedon: Well, she wasn't, but they told us she might. And they said, "Britney wants to do the show!" They always do. "Samuel L Jackson wants to do the show!", we got that one one time too. Eventually I just stopped believing it. So we did hear there was a possibility Britney wanted to do the show. We had never seen her act at all, so I said, "Well, we'll cover our bases. We'll write a show about a robot! And that way if she can't, we're fine." And then Shonda Farr came in and did a wonderful job. And the creation of Warren the villain, the Buffybot; it all came from the fact that we thought Britney Spears was going to be on the show. So, happy accidents.
If I'm not mistaken Angel was chased out of Europe and retreated to the safer America whose populace was way less aware of the existence of vamps.

I dunno, we see Angelus with Spike at the Boxer Rebellion (when he kills the Chinese Slayer in 'Fool for Love') so i'm not sure Angel just retreated straight to America, they both seemed to travel a bit. He did retreat from his past though, maybe dropping his accent was a part of that.

The main reason i'd say Spike kept his accent is that he was a grown-up when he left England and didn't choose to lose it, in those circumstances you generally don't (accents can be funny that way though - my brother was 2 years old when we moved from Scotland to England but still has a recognisably Scottish accent and yet I know people who left much later and sound completely English, not a trace of their original accent left). Added to that, don't forget that Spike's accent was partly a put-on job originally anyway (i.e. it's not William's accent, it's a deliberate choice, again possibly to distance himself from his past).

And some of those do indeed seem a bit dubious. Isn't "Once More, With Feeling" just a general bit of advice from stage directors to the performers (as in "Do it again, better") ? Or if it's a specific reference then, given Joss' fannishness, isn't the Broadway play/Yul Brynner movie more plausible than the 'Yes' song (or is that something Joss has actually commented on) ?

Didn't know the name Giles came from his Matron at Winchester though or that Xena had a Buffy shout-out, fun facts.
Does anyone else find that biological warfare paper incredibly scary?
Ah, I'm one of those people so guilty of mangling the American/British languages. Between bewildered and confused, I actucally think we made some progress here.

Now, about Mandarin....ah, still working on it!
Does anyone else find that biological warfare paper incredibly scary?

Nah, not much we can do is there ? Best not to worry ;).

(if you smoke then quit, remember to check your fire-alarm, avoid saturated fats and get a bit of exercise - not doing those is far more likely to kill you than Anthrax in the air-conditioner)

I do think it's a bit unfair on Buffy and the Scoobs though. They're not acting as if they have normal lives because they don't understand the threat, they're doing it because if that's your day in, day out reality it's the only way to stay sane.
But... but... I thought only the good guys watch Buffy? What is happening here?
But... but... I thought only the good guys watch Buffy?

Of course, and "...the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and, uh, we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after."

;-)
Just quietly, I would have loved to have seen Samuel L. Jackson as April.
So, Warren wants a girlfriend and creates a Samuel L.Jackson/Aprilbot...

Now that's just downright disturbing. I don't think April's Dress is the right color for Mr. Jackson at all. I see him as more of a Winter and Shonda Farr as more of a Spring.
Saje, they're saying the name Mutant Enemy comes from a song by Yes. Which does sound familiar.
Ah yep, they totally are. What happened there was, I did this thing I do where i'm utterly wrong ;).
I think Angel dropped his accent on purpose. He was trying to fit in with the humans around him; Spike didn't have to.

Love love LOVE the Britney Spears stories. Picturing her in the robot role is going to make my next watching of that episode so much more enjoyable.
Saje, despite being utterly wrong about Mutant Enemy, you did win the internet quoting Lie to Me, so there's that.
Result ! Now what'll I spend it on ? ;)

(love that episode)
Considering Angel moved to America around the turn of the century and his accent was Irish -- yeah, he might have felt pressure to acclimate, especially considering he wasn't living within a community that would've encouraged his Old World culture.

It's not like Spike didn't change his accent, too. He dropped his more upper crust accent.
Of all the one shot guest stars, and characters, I would have loved to have become a regular Shonda Farr is the top. She did a fantastic job and would have been great becoming a scooby and learning to be "human".
Unfortunately that would have been just too much like Anya.
And Odo, 7 of 9, the Doctor... It's kind of a Trek favourite, that sort of character.

...he might have felt pressure to acclimate, especially considering he wasn't living within a community that would've encouraged his Old World culture.

There always is. Even though he's fictional though I like to think Angel has a bit more backbone than that (even if it'd be nice to think i'm less of a big jessie than he is ;).

It's not like Spike didn't change his accent, too. He dropped his more upper crust accent.

Not to conform though, or at least not to conform to what others wanted him to be.
Umm, there's no little guy who pops up out of the TV to check your party registration before you watch a show . . . .
Somebody should totally get on that then, unless you're registered to party you shouldn't be allowed to watch TV. That's just common sense.
