Summer Glau as the Bodyguard? IMDb's poll thinks she should be, but who is the Whitney to her Costner?

Justin Bieber

JT.

ETA: Ah, I didn't click through so didn't notice the poll had her paired with the Biebs. That's a really icky pairing, she would overpower him.

She's the best ballad dancing machine I've seen. Oh wait, think I missed the question.
That turned my stomach.
Wait, i just remembered that this means they would have to form a romantic relationship...please mods, please delete this and my brain, Dollhouse style.
I like the way many of the pairings feature a black person and a white person. Because that was totally the point of 'The Bodyguard' right ? Dearie me.

(Summer could do it and i'd actually like to see her play the part but though I only know Justin Bieber from his appearance on 'The Daily Show', wouldn't that be cradle snatching of a fairly high order ? He's, like, 16 or something isn't he ?)
He turns 17 Tuesday. So icky.
Summer Glau, yes. Justin Bieber, there aren't enough no's in the universe.

Bradley Cooper and Mila Kunis, pretty please.
A bodyguard remake? huh? I'm starting to think these hollywood people are just spinning a wheel of past movies and tv shows to decide what their next project will be. I mean..WHY? Was America really anixously waiting for this? Some may call it old age where you think everything sucks now and everything was great when you were younger but the sheer lack of creativity in Hollywood today is mind blowing.

I read the headline and my first thought was: "They're remaking Yojimbo? Summer would be so cool in that role! That would be awesome!"

Then I had a reality check and thought: "They're remaking the one that had Adam Baldwin in it? What a funny connection. I could see that. Maybe rewritten with the main characters being older..."

Then I thought: "Nah, never happen. Just what is this thing? Whitney...? Costner...? Who are... ? ...uh... OOOOH. Duh. Well, if that isn't all predictable and boring."

So conclusions:

1. I really need my tea.
2. I like my brain better than studio execs/producers/whoever thinks up all these reboot projects. Do you think they have a reboot club?
3. Summer is amazing and I have no problems casting her in anything.

ETF: early morning, pre-tea spelling

Now that would be awesome. Not quite sure how it would work, but awesome all the same.

I dunno, it's not quite 'The Searchers' sort of level (which just shouldn't be remade, ever IMO) but 'Yojimbo' is such a classic that if they're going to remake it, even with Summer in the lead, they'd better be damn sure they're adding something (not only to 'Yojimbo' itself but also to the remakes that've already been made).

If they do though, I nominate "A Fistful of Fingers" for the title.
I'm a fellow Canadian and live 45 min from where Justin Bieber grew up, and I still want to swirly the little turd for being annoying and ridiculous!

;)

I guess the issue is what male pop star is closer to Summer's age and who we could stand being around her onscreen? I personally draw a blank since I'm not much into current music when it comes to single-entity musical acts except rare exceptions.

But really, I gotta ask...does Summer have to be the bodyguard in our hypothetical casting of any "The Bodyguard" remake? We know she can do it - boy howdy do we! - but I would rather intrigued to see Summer as the public figure being guarded...a change of pace and it would allow her some variety :)
James Blunt maybe, someone like that ?

As to your question, nope she doesn't have to be and playing a non-crazy, non-badass sorta "victim" character would be different for her. I think the appeal's partly just down to the novelty of having a woman in the knight in shining armour role (to me you have to do something like that if you're going to remake a film that's less than 20 years old, otherwise why bother ?).

And if a woman's to play the role, why not Summer right ?
"If they do though, I nominate "A Fistful of Fingers" for the title."

Or "A Foot Full of Toes."

******

Yeah, Summer could definitely play the star in need of a bodyguard. No reason it has to be a singing role and perhaps it would be better if it wasn't so as not to draw too many comparisons. If Justin Bieber was in the role... well, I don't think he's bad at all. The boy can definitely sing, it's just really not my kind of music. I do think his casting would take any potential romance thing with the bodyguard/Summer role though and make me feel me a majorly squicky. I also take it his casting would mean taking the focus of the film and retooling it for the tween market. Which could be an answer to, "Why bother?"

If the part was beefed up, I could see Summer as the obsessive fan too.

I like the idea of her as the bodyguard best though. (And some non-Bieber star/singer in the Whitney role.) ;)
My personal pick would be Wahlberg and Keyes.

But if the craziness did happen, and it was made with Summer and Bieber, it doesn't necessarily need to have romance in the mix. She could grow feelings for him much like a protective big sister.

But really, a world of no.

I dunno about James Blunt, Saje, since he's a former Brit army tank regiment Captain. So, while I wouldn't expect him to be a real life Soap MacTavish, I think he has some idea on how to fight off assailants ;)

And I personally would have no issue with Summer being the bodyguard, if only for allowing her to whoop ass but be technically sane or human (nothing against River or Cameron though). Still, flexibility is the key in all things ;D
Uch, a Household Cavalryman could pass for a non-solider I reckon ;).

(i.e. I wouldn't want to fight him in real-life cos he'd no doubt hand me my arse, gift wrapped but he looks like i'd have a chance and that's what matters in the business of show)
Summer Glau as the bodybuard, Andrew Garfield as the guard-ee (same age group, terrific actor, can play fragile wonderfully). Or, hey, combine "The Bodyguard" remake with a sequel to "The Social Network" and have her teamed up with Scott Eisenberg, reprising his role as Mark Zuckerberg :) We actually have seen Summer Glau playing fragile and needing help - "Angel" and most of "Firefly" and some of "The Cape." If she is the guard-ee, maybe her bodyguard can give her lessons in self-defense, so by the end of the film, she's able to do as the character what we know she can do as the performer.
How 'bout a The Bodyguard / Bladerunner remake mash-up. You'd have Summer Glau as the unassuming bounty hunter running around in a noir-ish, run-down techno-future trying to protect an important public figure (politician, celebrity - what have you) from assassination by some sort of super-human cult conspiracy.

...

I think I may have to go to town on this one.

That is just wrong for so many reasons.

Maybe mix it up a bit and have the guardee be Will Smith or Naveen Andrews - someone who might ordinarily be type-cast in a bodyguard role. Another way to go is to have her guard Nathan Fillion - but we've already sort of had that.
I am similarly appalled at the Summer/small child pairing.

I am even more appalled that I called it before I clicked the link. Now I need to go wash out my brain.

The poll is over and the Summer Glau fans have spoken :

Or was it the Justin Bieber fans ? We may never know.

*tells self that everyone who voted saw it as a non-romantic pairing in order to avoid telling self that the internet just sorta gave statuatory rape the thumbs up*
he is 17 now, if that helps. It really doesn't on account of him still looking 10.
But i would love to see Summer in a protective role again. In T:SCC she was a robot, in Firefly she got to stretch her crazy legs, her "protect me" legs and her ass kicking legs, in Angel she was the ballerina damsel in distress, so I would like to see her as a human person for a change. No reason why she'd have to be robotic in that performance. She could be wise-cracking or chatty or something. They could change the role entirely. But please, no Biebs!
