Round one of the TV addict's "TV Showrunner Madness" tournament. "Which TV Showrunner would you most like to see be given carte blanche to develop their own show?" The choices in the "Cult Favorite Division" are Joss Whedon or Eric Kripke.

Can't believe its Kripke vs Whedon, I don't want to vote against Kripke! Alas I must.
Is it real? The winner really will get unlimited budget to develop their own show and without network interference?
It felt too good to be true.
But... isn't Kripke not showrunner anymore?

Doesn't matter! *votes against him anyway*
I'm rooting for a Joss vs. either Sorkin or Ryan (who's losing now, but might've gathered more votes if they mentioned The Shield instead of/alongside Chicago Code) finale. Those are easily my three favorite show runners on that list; although Minear would've rounded out my top 4, but alas - he's not on there.
I found the David Chase (Sopranos) vs Amy Sherman Palladino (Gilmore Girls) category tough; my mom and I really bonded over Gilmore Girls but I thought the Sopranos was a masterpiece that just kept getting better (plus, Chase was an executive producer on Northern Exposure).

And in the animated category, I just wanted to write "More Futurama, please!".

But I didn't find it hard to pick Whedon over Kripke - possibly because I've only ever seen 3 episodes of Supernatural. Based on the comments around here, I must add that show to my rewatch-when-less-inebriated list.

Is this real life? I wish they'd clarify the seriousness, because it seems absolutely impossible for them to give anyone an "unlimited budget" and no network interference... but I can't help but hope that it's true and Joss might return to TV and the world will be happy once more...
The little asian and Ides - I'm pretty (say, as much as I can be as someone not connected to the website - i.e. still just about 100% - maybe even a bit more ;)) certain this isn't real. I realize the wording in the article might make it seem like it is, but it isn't. It's all just fun and games.
Kind of a simple choice. Creator of my favourite shows of all time, versus someone who is showrunner on something I've never watched before.

Supernatural does seem to get a lot of love (or at least liking a lot,) around here, so I'll probably have to watch it at some point.

My other votes were for Aaron Sorkin, Matt Groening, Ronald D. Moore, David Chase and Carter Bays/Craig Thomas.
I've often said that Eric Kripke is the b*stard love child of Joss and JJ. No, seriously, he's about as evil (in the best way possible) as both of them.

Despite my intense and deep love for Supernatural, I have to go with Joss on this. He's created 2 out of my all time 5 favorite shows. Eric's only created one.
Rooting for a Joss vs. Sorkin finale. (Just finished rewatching S1 of the West Wing again for the first time in years and man is that show great.)

Quite great a list (and what a nice surprise to see Amy S-P beating out David Chase!) though it wouldn't have hurt to have Rob Thomas on there too.

This were my votes (listed first/bold face letters = my choice)

Matt Groening (The Simpsons) vs. Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy)
Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Firefly) vs. Eric Kripke (Supernatural)
Ron D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica) vs. Jeff Pinkner/J.H. Wyman (Fringe)
Dan Harmon (Community) vs. Bill Lawrence/Kevin Biegel (Cougar Town)
Jason Katims (Parenthood) vs. Greg Berlanti (Everwood) - I already quite liked Friday Night Lights, but I love Parenthood.
Hart Hanson (Bones) vs. Andrew Marlowe (Caste)
Shawn Ryan (The Chicago Code) vs. Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy)
Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing) vs. David E. Kelley (Harry's Law)
Amy Sherman Palladino (Gilmore Girls) vs. David Chase (The Sopranos)
Carter Bays/Craig Thomas (How I Met Your Mother) vs. Damon Lindelof/Carlton Cuse (Lost)

They're comparing "How I Met Your Mother" and "Lost"? As in, they're both on TV? Okay ... I really like Eric Kripke, but my fealty goes to Joss Whedon.
