A candid conversation with Jewel Staite. She talks to the TV addict about her new show "L.A. Complex" and her early days in Hollywood (including what it was like auditioning for Firefly).

This is kind of a strange read because the interviewer doesn't seem to know Jewel actually did have a career as a child actor, even if it was mostly in Canada. I know it's hard to imagine, but life did exist before Firefly. It was still a good interview, it just seems weird that they didn't even look at imdb.
I'm glad she's on a series to work her considerable chops. But even more, I hope she does find that place in her career where it just isn't so hard. Frankly, I think pretty much every actor JW has worked with in major roles ought to be stars, rather than just established actors. Even Fillion and Tudyk haven't gotten there yet, though I consider all of them to be highly successful. But that is the reality of the business.

Yeah she seems to have had a pretty good career as a teen. "Higher Ground" especially seems to have been a proving ground for several well known actors.

Iagree, they are all luckier than most in that they all work fairly consistantly, usually are able to generate *some* interest in projects, if only from us and most have been in at least one series regular gig since a JW show.

I would actually say Nathan is now a bonefide TV star with Castle. It gets good ratings, lots of buzz and publicity and he (and now Stana Katic) are unquestionably the headliners. The same can be said of David B in "Bones" and probably to a lesser extent Adam Baldwin. They won't be earning 20 mill a movie after their gigs end, but they'll probably highly sort after, which is a miracle in LA.
Now that Morena is on a critically successful show she should start getting more acclaim.
