Joss Whedon's heroes and inspirations. Interesting SFX magazine interview with Joss, does what it says on the tin.

Dude, West Side Story is my inspiration for LIFE. I knew there was a reason I loved this guy.
Rod Serling! John Williams!
Very cool!

I love the fact that an Edwardian children's book is in there as well as the awesome film-makers and performers. Wonderfully eclectic.
Lovely list, from things I'd never heard of to my favorite children's author. I've read A Little Princess (and The Secret Garden and Little Lord Fauntleroy) more times than I can count. What I would give for a Joss screen version!
I had that Buck Rogers book, and poured over it for hours on end. I think maybe that (along with Star Trek, because Chekov was just so dang cute) is what started my love of science fiction.

Is it weird that I get all excited when I find out there's something Joss and I have in common?
Steve Gerber! We share Steve Gerber fandom. Why am I not surprised?

And I absolutely see the link between Hill St. Blues and Buffy.
This is my favorite kind of interview with Joss. Consider my Netflix Q updated.
