Overnights for 'Damage'. Mediaweek says "the WB's Angel (4.1/5) bested a repeat of UPN's America's Next Top Model (3.3/5) by 24 percent". Zap2it gave it 3.0/4. In related ratings news, The WB has released some very positive figures for the show.

Mmmmm imagine beating West Wing at something (yes I know that show is on the slide but still good to see).

Very nice to see. That episode last night was great, I wonder how much (if at all) the 100th epsiode will boost the ratings.

Good to see the WB being positive about the shows performance though. :)
And still I am assaulted by college basketball. Last night two games, back to back and then a friggin INFOMERCIAL! Smallville didn't air until 11:30pm and Angel not until 12:30am. It disgusts me.

It is good to hear that Angel's ratings are up from last week, beating another rerun of model. The question to ask is why? Was it the Andrew/rogue slayer angle? And if so, are fans of Buffy selectively tuning in more for episodes featuring Buffy alumns? If that's the case, they need a reality check. We're not going to be seeing more Buffy cast guests if fans can't support the show all the time, not just when it's convenient. What we'll be seeing is a big empty hole where Angel used to air before it was cancelled.
Don't be so bleak, Harborym. That big empty hole will almost certainly be filled by some amazingly cool, original, intellectually stimulating reality programming... so there's a silver lining.

(Must remember to take my medication. I seem to be speaking in tongues.)
Great news to see Angel did well last night and is apparently doing well overall. Hope for a next season grows if it can keep this up.

And yeah great ep last night. Loved it. To see Andrew and hear about the others is great and he was funny. But it wasn't what made it great for me. How it was handled, and how Angel and Spike's relationship is developing is exactly the kind of stuff I was hoping for when I first heard James was moving to AtS.

I think they're doing a great job of keeping both characters 'cool' and in their own worth in their own story while at the same time affecting each other. Spike didn't 'take over' and Angel isn't constantly the unbeatable top dog just because it's his show. It's so well balanced.

And isn't it possible that after sweeps, people sort of grew out of their routine in watching shows, and are now getting wise again? Smallville was down too last week and was up again this week as well. Seems a pattern. (By the way: Sorry but, to coin a phrase, that show is still as dull as a table lamp.)
Reality TV, yay!

Can it be called, "What Were They Thinking!?"

This week on WWTT!?, fans of the cancelled Angel, armed with rolling pins and tasers confront WB execs and 'only if Buffy' viewers and ask, What were you thinking?

Next week! Joss Whedon, creator of Firefly, crashes the offices of Fox and astounds them with Numfar's Dance of Joy performed around Simon Cowells head on a pike!

And for sweeps! Eliza Dushku, Tru Calling! Need we say more?
I got a really bad shock when i first looked for the rating, miss read the 18-49 as the fast national (2.0, which would have been the worst rating ever, and prolly guaranteed cancellation).

The Fast Nats are also out at Zap 2 It

CBS moved into the lead at 9 p.m. with a "King of Queens" rerun, 8.3/12, and "Becker," 7.9/12. ABC was close behind with "The Bachelorette," 7.8/12. FOX dropped to third with a rerun of "The O.C.," which narrowly beat a repeat of "The West Wing," 5.3/8, on NBC. "Angel" averaged 3.0/4 for The WB. UPN re-aired Tuesday's "America's Next Top Model."

A 3.0 is the best Fast Nat since Life of the Party, I believe, so all signs point to it being vastly up on last week.

"It is good to hear that Angel's ratings are up from last week, beating another rerun of model. The question to ask is why? "

Prolly a combination of factors. TV Guide cover, American Idol being down on last week, OC being a repeat, More people watching top model yesterday than were able to do the previous week. The slayer theme and even Andrew possibly helped (though if Andrew was seen as a ratings draw, they would have advetised it more).
I'm sure that The O.C. being a rerun helped quite a bit, and those sad Jake 2.0 fans may have come over to Angel as well. Usually I'm appalled at how poorly The WB promotes the show in comparison to their other junk. For instance, yesterday on the radio I kept hearing this epic Smallville commercial about Lana Lang pulling a Jack Torrance and blah blah badplotline blah...then all I get afterwards is "Followed by David Boreanaz in Angel!" Thanks guys.

That being said, the network seems to remember the show exists for at least the 100th episode, and the promoting has been quite nice. So maybe we'll see a small ratings jump next week as well.
SyFy Portal did their take on the Mediaweek figures and I read this interesting comment.

Overall, "Smallville" continues to be in a slump. Since its season premiere, the show has lost 24 percent of its audience.

I've been watching the third season in the UK and I've not been impressed. Are thing not going well for Smallville? And if so is this good for Angel?
Personally I don't know what Smallville used to do in the ratings. And if it's doing a little less, than yeah I think that's good for Angel in the sense that it doesn't look so bad in comparison.

And I've been extremely unimpressed with that entire show myself (Smallville that is). I've tried, I really have. And I'm a comic/SF/Fantasy nerd by many standards and I really WANTED to like it. But dear god, nothing happens on this show that isn't turned back the very next ep! And how many times can they end with Clark and Lana staring blankly at each other at the end in that same cliched meaningless teeny bopper way? And could they get a single actor on there besides Lex, who actually has more than 1.5 facial expressions??

Pant pant....sorry. But man, a show like Angel goes so much further in so many ways. Anyway, let's hope things keep going well for Angel because I think this season has been pretty good so far and is really getting steam now.
I didn't think that it would matter that much, but I really wonder if the OC is hurting Angel. I have a coworker that used to watch Buffy and LOVES Spike, but now she doesn't watch Angel because of the OC. She always asks me for updates and wants to know when it will be a good episode so she can TiVo or record it, but she never does. I hope it's not a trend. And to Ed Dantes.....couldn't agree more on the Smallville bit......snnooooooze.......can't even imagine people actually like that AND like Angel.....incomprehensible....
In retrospect, seeing that the "OC" was a repeat, I'm not surprised by Angel's jump in the ratings. The real test is two weeks from now when it's (not a 'special' episode) going against all other shows in it's timeslot that are brand new as well.
I loved last nights episode, I though it was fabulous! Andrew kills me.
I can't stand Smallville, one episode was enough to bore me to death. I do like the OC, but I record that, and watch Angel. If I didn't have a VCR, OC would be outta there.
Has anyone been watching Tru Calling? I feel the same way about that one that I do Smallville
I still watch Smallville for Lex...and because I have nothing better to do for the hour before Angel. It's not very good.
is angel up against american idol next week?

i heard that somewhere...
Yes it's true the first half of Angel will be competing against the second half of American Idol :(

American Idol is doing an hour program starting at 8:30pm ET next Wed. Why are people watching this show - it's absolutely boring and humiliating for the viewers and the contestants.
Smallville is a great program...I don't know what everyone else here is watching...And if Smallville's ratings continue to slump then that spells trouble for Angel...Smallville is a VERY strong lead for Angel and if you guys haven't noticed, beyond the core loyalists, Angel doesn't appeal to a wide range of people...So we should all wish the very best for Smallville in hopes of saving our own favorite show...AtS!
I watch Smallville and Angel. I'm not obsessed with Smallville like I am Angel, but I like it. There are things I dislike about it, mostly the stand-alone MOTW episodes. I watch for the in-jokes, the Superman references and the underlying story arc.

I'm also fascinated by Lex Luthor. Clark and Lana's silly "will they get together or just get mad at each other" pattern is tolerable to me (I'm very patient), but I can see how it would get on people's nerves.

I love shows that have non-stop plot lines where the episodes bleed together, but there aren't a lot of shows out there like that. I can name a few: 24, Alias, and Angel (well, last season anyway). I love the soap opera of it all. I want to watch a show that pulls me in and I just cannot stop watching (Smallville isn't one of those). DVDs are great for that kind of thing.

I also watch Smallville. I don't think it's as good as it was but it's still good because of the Lex/Clark dynamic. I could do with a lot less of Lana though. I think Smallville could start to get more interesting again now that they are starting to incorporate more of the plots from Clark's future like The Daily Planet and Lois Lane was mentioned for the first time the last episode.

That said, it doesn't compare though in quality to Angel, Buffy or Firefly but still a good show none the less.
