Marvel, Disney secure estimated $100 mil in marketing support for The Avengers. Variety reports details about the various promotions for The Avengers including everything from Acura, Dr. Pepper, Visa, Wyndham hotels, Harley-Davidson, Land O'Frost lunchmeats, Farmers Insurance, Hershey, Symantec, Oracle, bracelet-maker Colantotte and Red Baron pizza.

Holy frak. Does that mean almost half the movie's budget is has already been earned back through product placement, or is that extra cost to promote the movie with?

I work for Oracle; glad to hear that we pitched in! My division (sales to the US Federal Government) has an incredibly talented creative team that has worked with Marvel in the past to create mini-movie tie-ins to Iron Man 1 & 2. I'm eager to see what we're doing for The Avengers!
Well from what I've read Avengers will probably make back most of its costs through merchandise and toy sales which could reach in the billions. Disney is thinking bigger than box office receipts.

Can`t wait until someone asks Joss to sign a pack of luncheon meat. :)
I'm really curious how the distribution deal thing was worked out in all of this.
US (and possibly all North American market) the distribution is under Paramount, right? But for the rest of the world (or at least most of it) Disney is handling the distribution. Wonder how the revenues fit it this math .
