Doomed `Angel' still good TV. "WB decision to kill vampire series may not be fatal; show's fate staked to star's desire".

"And it's always possible another network could pick up the show, the way Buffy the Vampire Slayer landed on UPN after a falling-out with The WB. But that would depend on David Boreanaz -- who plays Angel -- agreeing to a new contract".

Now, I would think if your show just got cancelled you might be quite agreeable to taking a somewhat cut in pay to have that show picked up by another network. Hopefully, though, if UPN does want it they'll give David and company the same pay and Fox will take a cut in what they get.

It's not always about money. It sounds like DB is ready to try different things:

And after that? Another season?
It's the same thing every season: You don't know. I think our show is open to another season. I'm proud we've gotten to 100. But I'm really itching to explore other characters and do other projects. I think I've been stuck in this medical school for a while, and I need to open up and get out. I look forward to that, and there's part of me that wants to explore. I don't know. I always evaluate that at the end of every season, and I will at the end of this one. I'll think about where I'm at when it's time.

The Kristin interview was before his contract negosiations with ME in Jan. So what do you expect him to say.
Yeah that sounded like strategy to me back then too. Also, if Angel is not renewed or your contract negotiations don't work out, you come out looking cooler if you already said stuff like this.

If they manage to save Angel somehow for another season I really doubt David would say no. Could be wrong.
If he had said no the WB would not have not bothered canceling it - I think David had his contract around the critic press junkit last month or why else would Joss have been surprised by WB not renewing it - I think DB had signed and Joss was plotting out season 6 already - perhaps making 6 it's last but being up front about it so it could really go out on top and not get the shaft. However if the move they may have 2 seasons left - cause I don't think UPN would go in for anyless if they are going to pick it up.
Actually, I think UPN would want three seasons. They were disappointed with only getting two seasons of BtVS, but I can't see AtS lasting any longer than eight years.
yah and if David doesnt wanna go another season, it would be soooo cool if spike/James Marsters, took over.
