(SPOILER) CBR's Behind Buffy Season 9 with Andrew Chambliss. They talk about Guarded, Billy The Vampire Slayer and the start of Welcome To The Team as well as where the season is building to.

Yep, goodbye dander.
There are two thing in that interview that just make me shake my head in disbelief. Firstly, that Mr Chambliss can think the introduction of Billy and Devon was handled well, and secondly that he thinks Dowling and Billy could replace Xander, Willow, Dawn and Spike as Buffy's team.

While it's true that people move on with their lives, it's also true that people (for the most part) buy comic books based on TV shows to see more of the characters they loved in that show. Not to see them replaced by new characters they're not invested in at all. Introduce new characters by all means, but not at the expense of writing out existing ones.
Deborahmm, you might need to show my where you think Chambliss says anything about new characters replacing old. Don't see that at all.
There were a lot of things in that interview that had me shaking my head in disbelief. Oh well. Only 9 issues to go.
I have no problem with introducing new characters in theory, but I don't feel it's being done very well in practice. The characters mentioned in the interview (Spike, Anya, Dawn, Andrew) were not all introduced at once in the show, or at the expense of the regular characters. I would have liked to see more of Dowling interacting with the existing Scoobies for a while before we had more new characters.

At least Xander and Dawn are getting a bit more attention now though.
Buffy vs Illyria! Bring it.

In a simplistic way, Dowling is the new Xander (he killed his former partner) while Billy is the new Willow (this is what he wants to to - help people)
