Ming-Na Wen talks S.H.I.E.L.D.. Old video interview from October with AMC Theaters that I don't see in the archives anywhere.

This interview portrays S.H.I.E.L.D. as first a Whedon project, second a Marvel project. I wonder if that will be the case.
I like her. She's one of us.
Well the main cast all being fresh characters definitely points toward a "Joss first, Marvel second" approach, which is terrifically exciting!
Hmm... She name dropped Stan Lee there at the end. I wonder if that means he has some involvement to a degree or if she just meant Marvel as a whole which he somewhat represents? That would be very cool and interesting if he did. Though, at the end of the day, I think this will very much be a Whedon show at it's core. Marvel seems to have their head on straight and sees/knows what Joss and Company (Maurissa just start using Jed's last name already so I can refer to all of you as the Whedon's!) is capable of and are taking the approach of "you know how to make it work, so make it work". I would definitely say it will be "Joss first, Marvel second" which is absolutely the way it should be.

Also, she mentioned going back and watching "Firefly" and "The Avengers" but I really think she should watch some "Buffy" and "Angel" because just from the bits and pieces that have been said about the S.H.I.E.L.D. show it seems like it will be more in line with those two worlds. Or maybe I just think everyone should be watching "Buffy" and "Angel" constantly...lol
my comment above essentially summarizes the AMC interview
I understand what she is saying about not basing the TV show off of the comic but one of the things that Joss has said that the paneling for comics helped him alot in developing his directorial vision. One of the other things that I noticed is his directing on Objects in Space gave a very comic panel feel specifically when River was taunting Early. I am hoping he brings some those same visual stylings to S.H.I.E.L.D.
I like her a lot! This is the first time I've ever watched her on screen, so she's officially won me over. I like that she thinks of the show as more of a Joss show than a Marvel show too! I agree with her, and I hope we're right! New, original stories set in the SHIELD setting should be just what we need. Influence from the comics, of course, but like she said, not enough for her to go back and read hundreds of comics.
This really does not surprise me, although I'm sure it wil piss off comics purists. But S.H.I.E.L.D. is not being billed as a superhero series per se. The idea of new characters really gives Joss the license to take it where he wants it to go. Although some surprise guest appearances would be cool. Anyway I've liked her since her ER days so I'm sure she'll be great.
I still remember her as Senator Wen on Eureka. I loved that show.
She was on seasons 4 and 5. Her character killed Felicia Days character Holly Marten.
