Cobie Smulders could appear in S.H.I.E.L.D.. She tells the I Am Rogue website "the commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don't affect it and I can't really say but there are definite talks about it." ETA: And a Hollywood Reporter video interview with Cobie talking about S.H.I.E.L.D. can be found here (find out whose show it is!).

This is probably my favorite casting rumor so far, personally.
Yes!! I hope this pans out :)
So glad to hear this, I had been hoping she would show up in the show. As a comic reader I find she is absolutely perfect as Maria Hill and I look forward to seeing her get to expand the character! Plus, I've thought Cobie Smulders is rather awesome for some time now and I'm happy to have more of her running around a Whedon show.
Gosh, that would be wonderful! And The Winter Soldier is sounding more and more exciting, too.
Praying to Glorificus that this happens.
This would be great if it works out.
Good to hear. HIMYM will hopefully end after season 9 and Cobie could join as a regular in SHIELD's potential season 2 :)
I'm not a HIMYM fan, and at first I was underwhelmed by Cobie's role in Avengers. But I watched the deleted scenes & other extras on the Blu-Ray, and wow, that changed my mind! Yes, she would be a great addition to the cast!
I would love for this to happen, and love her to be a regular after HIMYM ends, as well!
I was actually hoping this was what was holding up the HIMYM renewal talks. Would love to see her start off as recurring if she can't be a regular right away.
Joss Whedon: thank you for practically taking over Marvel. You are doing a wonderful job so far. That is all.

It would be out of this world if they could get ANY of the movie stars to make an appearance from time to time. It's a rare thing to have movies crossover with television. If anyone could pull it off it's the Whedon clan.
Is Coulson suddenly chopped liver, Egghead? He's a big part of S.H.I.E.L.D. and was in all but...two?...of the Phase One films :P
OK I'm a little confused, isn't Avengers 2 due in 2015? Isn't Guardians of the Galaxy coming out after Cap's next installment, then A2 the following summer? Maybe it's just an increasingly common internet typo...

I love Agent Coulson as much as the next guy, but he's not really a superstar in the Marvel Universe when compared to Iron Man, Hulk, etc. After all, he was created fairly recently, and only for the sole purpose of helping to bridge all of the films together. I'm ecstatic he's going to be in the new show - I was just saying it'd be great if we could get Tony Stark or maybe Bruce Banner to make an appearance every now and again. How often has a big movie star like Robert Downey Jr. played the same character on both the big screen and TV? It'd be an unbelievably difficult thing to do and it could only be done if everyone involved really, REALLY wanted to make it happen.

That was the point I was trying to make before. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear about it.
@MrArg, Iron Man 3 in May 2013, Thor:The Dark World in November 2013, Captain America:The Winter Soldier in April 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy in August 2014, Avengers 2 in May 2015, Antman in November 2015.
Then Doctor Strange after Antman.
Thanks eddy, that's what I thought.
There's another interview with her so I added that to the entry.
That THR video really makes it seem like she is going to be on the show at some point in some capacity and she also seems to refute the idea (that some have been repeating) that Clark Greg would have a flashback-y or small role. Coulson Lives!
Yes. He's seems to be pretty much the lead.
It was said at NYCC that the show is built around Coulson so how could he NOT be a significant ongoing part?
