Fireflyin' Away Will a Firefly film hurt the chances of a future Buffy or Angel motion picture?

Nothing really new in the news department, but I found his opinions interesting. I'd be crushed if the Buffyverse died because Joss was so wrapped up in all things Firefly. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

i would much rather him go for a buffy and angel movie...................i agree that this might be the downfall on that
The Buffyverse got 12 good years. Certainly I'm angry Angel got cancelled and I'd love for the Buffyverse to continue in some form, but Firefly only got 14 episodes, and I want to see what Joss has in mind for those ten characters. If the choice is between Buffyverse movies and a successful Firefly movie (with, Skybully willing, a possible TV series relaunch, or even a series of movies), I'm gonna go into the black...
I agree with you Norman...I would absolutely prefer a Buffy/Angel movie. I think the Buffyverse has the potential to be a huge commercial success (on an X-Men scale). I'm going to be an optimist and say that if Firefly does well, then the chances of a Buffy/Angel movie are very good. And, if it doesn't, I don't think it will necessarily kill the chances of a Buffy movie. Sarah Michelle Gellar is still the most famous actor from the Whedonverse (while the Firefly cast are relative unknowns) so if she agrees to be in a film, I think studios will be interested.

I do share the writer's views in that part of me is a little jealous that Joss is paying so much attention to FireFly. Although I enjoyed the show during its run, I am not as interested in its future as I am with the Buffyverse.

As a fan of all three shows I'm extremely happy that Joss has a chance to do something with Firefly. He finished Buffy and this might be Angel's last year but they had a great run. Firefly had the potential to be brilliant and it was yanked before it's time. I'm sure if you asked Joss Whedon if he had to choose, he'd choose Firefly because it's unfulfilled and he had a lot to tell with it. I would prefer it being back on TV because I also worry that a lot will be missing in the movie. And not trying to step on the toes of BtVS & Angel but Firefly had more viewers and if it had been on UPN or the WB it would most likely still be around.

And it's a show that has grown a huge following since it's been cancelled. Many people say they never saw it when it was on and now want to know what was supposed to happen.

And frankly, whether or not it succeeds (and I'm betting on succeeds) that wouldn't effect whether or not they'd do a Buffy/Angel movie. Joss Whedon is a highly respected writer in both television and movies.
I would like to see a Buffy/Angel movie, but Firefly is more necessary--that show was cut off midplot. And if it succeeds, then we will know that Joss will not have a problem (other than cast reassembly) if he ever wants to make a Buffy/Angel movie.

Buffy and Angel both lasted like 20 times longer, produced a greater effect on the media and pop culture, and were more popular comparatively (i.e. when you take into account that "Firefly" was on FOX, and it got pretty much the same ratings).

Huh. I have the feeling I've typed a similar comment in another thread recently. ??
Yeah Firefly is more due, having had so short a run. I'd love to see theater movies of ALL of it of course. But I'm not sure which has a bigger chance of succeeding with the mainstream audience the way X-Men has.

Let's not forget, before the first X-Men movie most people were expecting it to bomb. The studios even insisted it was cut to 1:30 h so they could get as many showings in as they could in the first weekend, only half trusting it. So you never know how succeful something as 'culty' or 'nerdy' as that can succeed, hmmm?

But still, I think both Buffy/Angel and Firefly are hard sells for theater movies. And I couldn't say which I think would have the bigger chance to really score. I think if the word 'Buffy' is in the title, it will definitely scare a lot of people off, since so many never even got past that title to watch the show. It sounds stupid to many people.

And if Firefly the Movie is really called 'Serenity', what would a good different title be for a Buffy/Angel movie?
Hmmm...The Hellmouth...City of Angel...Um...Tales of the Slayers? Ripper? Dark Willow?
Electricspacegirl - excellent suggestions.

I would suggest that Joss give a few members of the Buffy and Angel cast cameos on 'Serenity'. Since he was kind enough to create (what seemed like) last-minute roles on both BTVS and Angel for both Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres, perhaps he could do the same for about-to-be unemployed Buffy and Angel casts.

Well, I don't think James Marsters would ever refuse an opportunity to work with Joss. I would love JAR or Amy popping up as well.
Well i think it would be a little tacky to have Buffyverse characters in the firefly movie. I hate to say it but to a point they are typecasted to the point that Whedon fans don't want to see them in other roles. Outside of the Whedonverse i don't think they are typecasted. But i don't think i can take someone like Nicholas Brendon being a captain or something. (and it's just an example, i think he's a great actor, it's just a question of perception.)
And if Firefly the Movie is really called 'Serenity', what would a good different title be for a Buffy/Angel movie?

Standing Against The Forces Of Darkness! Sorry, but I used to love that little intro! "She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons; and the forces of darkness" Because vampires and demons arn't forces of darkness at all, they're rainbows and sugar cookies!
I love Buffy and Angel, and am as sad as anyone that Angel was cancelled, but their stories have been told. Firefly is so fresh and new, and has so much more to be told....a movie to wrap a just a few of those dangling plot lines would be heaven!
Pezwitch, I love that title!
