An interview with Miracle Laurie about working with Joss on Dollhouse. They're still raising money for her short film.

I liked learning how the character of Mellie came about. Although I do wonder just what the execs found "unbelievable" about November. Did they think no one would hire her? Or was it the sleeper-Active angle?

I'd hire her to be my best friend. And kick ass as needed.
I guess, given what I've heard about casting directors, her having a full figure.
DaddyCatALSO, it's not just Casting Directors. It's who they work for. If the studio was on board with normal-sized actors instead of needing everyone to be a size zero, then that's who they'd cast. Remember, Jewel Staite was told to gain 20 lbs for the part of Kaylee in Firefly. Casting people are given parameters to work within. They do not overrule the producers, studio or network.
