Chrissy Amphlett dies: Singer of Divinyls, 'I Touch Myself,' was 53. Chrissy Amphlett, singer of the Divinyls, covered the song "I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore" on the 1992 Buffy movie soundtrack.

Also a Divinyl reference in Lie To Me, Buffy's embarrassing comment, "It was terrible. I moped over you for months. Sitting in my room listening to that Divinyls song "I Touch Myself". Of course, I had no idea what it was about."
The song "I Touch Myself" is also the background song for the awesome Buffy & Spike PopUp video here I Touch Myself

I had no idea there was a Whedon connection here. That "I Touch Myself" song is such an awesome one-hit-wonder classic. It just popped up when I had my iPod on shuffle the other day.
Watch the PopUp video, full of great trivia, and funny. And now I have to watch Lie To Me, S2Ep07 :-)
Based on broadcast dates, I'd have been a senior when Buffy was a freshman, and SMG herself right around the same. So for the character, the actor, most of the writers, myself, etc, that song and the O.O of it were real life experiences, so that was a great zeitgeist moment to me, that joke. I remember that feeling of "is she really talking about that or am I just being dirty minded?"

53 is very young, sorry for her loss.
That quote from Lie to Me was one of the first things that popped into my head when I heard of Chrissie's death. Being a teen in the 8o's in Australia, I grew up with the Divinyls, and that reference in Buffy was a little moment of 'Oh! They know about our Chrissie over there!'

She was a true rock icon and will be missed.
Always preferred Pleasure and Pain or Boys in Town to Touch Myself (until the nectar of the gods started flowing);)

But I was shocked to hear this the other day. She will be missed.
Damn!! She actually sang quite a few good tunes. She'll be missed! Damn!
This made me so sad to hear. I've always loved that band! What a shame...
That quote from "Lie To Me" is really the only place I ever heard of it beyond some brief stories in the media about the controversy over it. (Of course, I was bron in 1955 and my musical tastes are more like I was born in 1925.)

Wonder if Ford as Angelus-in-miniature is a workable theory (given that I've already identified miniature versions of the Mayor, Glory, and Dark Willow, it would support an idea i'm working on.)

That song from the 1992 Buffy film makes me want to dance whenever I hear it. :) I've actually never been a big fan of "I Touch Myself". I rather like songs like "Back To The Wall", instead. Regardless, Divinyls was a talented band with a unique, refreshing sound and Chrissy Amphlett was a large part of that.
