'Much Ado About Nothing' rollouts in the US today. Deadline spoke to Roadside Attraction's Howard Cohen about the movie's release. 5 screens today in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. On the 21st, there will be a 150 screen run in the top 25 markets. The One True b!X has created an unofficial listings website for the screenings in the US and elsewhere. That can be found at muchsignal.wordpress.com.

150 screens isn't much. Maybe there will be more theatres added if there's enough buzz that people clamor to see it. I'm disappointed that the Washington DC area will only get 2 screens (so far) but at least they're somewhat convenient locations.
The Charles Theatre in Baltimore has Much Ado on it's Coming Soon Page, so hopefully that means it'll be one of the 150 screens that'll open on the 21st

Good grief! NO showings in Arizona at all? I'd have thought that The Loft in Tucson would have ordered it. I'm going to have to go lobby them to get with the program.
This weekend, each screen must take around 43 million dollars if the studio wants Much Ado to beat The Avengers opening weekend.

To be fair is 150 screens not the norm for indie films?
b!X's list is great and I applaud it (and think the studio should copy it or point the website at his site), but so far it only has 42 of the 150 or so planned venues. So there will be a great many more. That said, this ain't Serenity - y'all may be hitting the road if you want to see this at a theatre. And I think the wider roll out depends on this weekends take, as per joss.

I applaud the effort as well (and awesome URL title), I've been trying to figure out when it was coming to Colorado and had no clue until looking at that site. And it just so happens I have a pair of passes to the Esquire thanks to some complaints made at a horrible screening of The Master last fall, so I'll be catching it on the house!
Going tonight in Los Angeles, couldn't be more excited. Also, I hear Obama is in town, so that'll be a lovely complication! Fun with sigalert to come.
I am visiting the US from Aus and I'm in NYC, but I leave this morning, so I miss the release by a few hours! Grrr!
They need to play it in Charlotte,NC. Ugh!!
I've emailed a couple of my local theaters to see if they're planning on playing it. Here's hoping!
And I still haven't seen one for Philadelphia yet. We are not listed on the Landmark Theaters website list of "coming soon" cities, http://www.landmarktheatres.com/Films/films_frameset.asp?id=121747 They run our big quasi art movie theaters. Maybe it will be shown at more independent art houses? I have of course tweeted @LandmarkLTC to apprise them of the problem. A week ago they tweeted to me that I should watch their website to confirm and a Daily News reporter thought they would have it.

I will not cry yet. I won't. It's all going to be ok.
steverogers, I'm in the same boat as you. Can't believe that The Loft wouldn't show it, much less ANY theater up in Phoenix. Let's start a Loft email campaign!
Is anybody else a bit excited? I think they added a bunch of times to the SF showing today as well, I only remember seeing four when I booked earlier this week, now it looks like there are around ten.
5 is so very few... I knew it would be limited, but I thought it would be more like last year's Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which had 27 theaters on the first week... Atlanta I do believe was one of them, so I thought for sure I'd get to see this sooner, but... hopefully it has a great week and they start adding theaters as soon as next week instead of waiting 2 weeks... Come on Cali and NY, sell out those theaters!!
bknick - For sure. Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the country - no showings there? And Much Ado is exactly the kind of film The Loft usually showcases. I checked their schedule and it's not on their list of coming attractions. I'm sending them an email the second I get done posting this.
So there's one in Portland, three hours south, and there's one in Bellingham, two hours north, but nothing in Seattle yet? Dang it, Bellingham's got nothing on us! And I can name three theaters, two of them in walking distance, that should be all over this... Sigh. I hope that at least one of them is one of the 108 that b!x's list hasn't yet got.
Yes!!!! The Tampa Theatre is showing it in Tampa. This is great news. Tampa Theatre is a lovely old school movie palace complete with a Mighty Wurlitzer organ that sinks beneath the stage during performances. Can't wait!
I'm very excited...at least one theater in my city will be showing it, although they don't have any times listed yet. As much as I loved growing up in the country, there are advantages to being a big city girl now that I'm an adult.
ManEnough - It will be playing at The Harvard Exit. Don't know the date though.
From reading the article, it looks like Howard Cohen is seeing if he can make Much Ado this year's Moonrise Kingdom. That film opened in four theatres, and was in only 96 in its third week. It's about slow growth and word of mouth. I'd be a little surprised if Much Ado peaked at 150 theatres, especially since at that point they're still restricting the number of markets it's in.
Keep in mind that some Regal theaters should be showing it, since they are running that poster contest. I just haven't seen any dates/venues from them yet.
sumogrip Thanks for the heads up about Obama -- I was prepared for the usual Friday afternoon traffic nightmares, but hadn't factored in the presidential motorcade. Hopefully they won't be near the Landmark.

And I'm so excited to finally be seeing this movie!!
I think every tiny independent movie rolls out with hopes of being the next MOONRISE KINGDOM or BEST MARIGOLD HOTEL, but very, very few achieve that level of success. So my hopes for this are way more modest, because Joss Whedon (YAY) doesn't have to prove himself anymore, after the gangbuster year he had in 2012.
Hm. The previously reported June 14th date for Canada may turn out to be just an optimistic placeholder. This radio station page announces a June 19th sneak preview screening for Much Ado at Vancouver's Fifth Avenue cinemas ahead of its June 21st wide release date.
Hmmm. Michigan's got the Main Art Theatre in Royal Oak (not Detroit) but their website doesn't list it playing on the 21st yet. I'll keep my eye on it. Thank you B!x for the list!
counti8, but here there's a giveaway for a Toronto advance screening on the 12th, and Cineplex is still listing it for a June 14 release. Though, maybe it comes out later in not-Toronto...
BTW, Portlanders: I stumbled across Cinema 21's tickets page for Much Ado last night. Already bought my ticket for the first show on 6/21.
The movie doesn't have big 'splosions, CGI robots or Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, so I'm sure it will never play in my town. Guess I'll be waiting for the DVD.

I don't know if I've ever seen a limited release indie film get as much hype as this one. You'd think all that ink would get it a wider release.
Thanks for the info, Znachki. The Harvard Exit was one of the three I was thinking of. Not one of the two within walking distance, annoyingly -- I'm still holding out hope for the Seven Gables -- but that's good news nonetheless.
Opens in Austin, TX on the 21st, just in time for my birthday weekend! Best. Present. Ever.

Thanks, b!x, for the awesome site. Will check here regular-like for updates. Count me in as a minion.
Just checked the website of the Circle Cinema in Tulsa and they will be playing it on the 21st.
Thanks, Baalek. Added.
Hera, it's at the Violet Crown - awesome! I'm gonna announce it for our Whedon group. Would be nice if we could all sit together but I doubt that'll happen. See you there!
Hey steverogers and bknick- the movie opens at the Scottsdale Camelview 5 on June 21st. Showtimes and tickets will be available on the 17th. There is a group of AZ Browncoats going on Saturday the 18th. Check our FB page if you want to join us.
FYI - I haven't seen this reported anywhere on here, but Tom Lenk et al. (I think Alexis Denisof will also be there) are doing a Q&A after the 7:30pm showing in SF tonight.

Tom tweeted this: https://twitter.com/tomlenk/status/342354461131411457

And I also saw a (small) poster advertising it in the theatre yesterday when I saw Much Ado, which is why I think Alexis will be there. I think there will be a third cast member there too, but I forget who. Hasn't been well advertised. I'll see it again today so that I can see the Q&A. Didn't know if this was front page material; I assumed not.
madmolly, s there any way to tell on the Harkins website what venues will be showing a "coming soon"? I saw it on their coming soon page earlier this week but couldn't find any way to determine which of their theaters will be getting it.
Thank you Landmark Theatres in San Diego - we get the film on 6/21.

madmolly- Do you mean Wednesday the 18th or Saturday the 22nd or...? I don't see any info on your Facebook page. Do I need a Facebook acct to see it? Could you post the meetup info here or somewhere else perhaps?

Thx!
Amrita- We're all going on Sat. the 22nd. It's just a bunch of us showing up. We haven't picked a time yet because times won't be available until June 17th. (Ignore the one for Friday as we are not attending that showing)

It's on the Arizona Browncoats Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/152571031446054/

Just do a friend request or like, and add your comments. Good luck
b!X- I can find that out for you. Are you in Phoenix?
No. I'm just trying to flesh out the theater listings.

Aaargh! That link requires a Facebook account; I don't do Facebook. Could you possibly post it on your AZ Browncoats website, or someplace that doesn't require registration in order to view it? I'd really like to join you guys that Saturday.
