Universal Gives Serenity the Green Light.
From the Universal Pictures news release.
An excellent description of Mal and the crew: "The film centers around Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, "Serenity." He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family -- squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal."

This is a very good sign that Joss will be able to continue telling his stories through movies. I hope Universal will be as excited to put a Buffy movie on the big screen in the future.
And, I cannot wait for this movie to come out!

I hope the movie's success does it (the movie) justice!

And yeah, I think everyone realizes that a lot of the characters are going to end up getting short shrift in a two-hour film, but I'm confident that Joss will find a way to give each of them at least one choice scene, and I'm hopeful that there will be more "Firefly" stories (whether as more movies or a new TV series) in the future.

"The crew that was once used to skimming the outskirts of the galaxy unnoticed find themselves caught between the unstoppable military force of the Universal Alliance and the horrific, cannibalistic fury of the Reavers, savages who roam the very edge of space. Hunted by vastly different enemies, they begin to discover that the greatest danger to them may be on board "Serenity" herself."
That fits in with what Joss said to SFX last year about part of the movie being about River. And yes SimonF is me.

Ron Glass ("Reverend Book")
Alan Tudyk ("Wash" the pilot)
Not sure what that means, either contract not yet finalized or these actors are not coming back for those character parts.
