(SPOILER) Paul Bettany joins the Avengers 2 cast. And we don't mean as Jarvis.

Well ain't that something. I kind of wish we didn't know this, would have been a nice surprise. I assume Jarvis will somehow evolve?
What if he's Jarvis as Vision? Imagine the things he knows about Tony. Imagine the Whedony banter!
Vison/Wanda shippers assemble!
YAY! I've been wanting Jarvis to be 'alive' since the first Iron Man! SWEET!
For anyone doubting the news because its the Daily Mail, in addition to the Variety follow up, The Hollywood Reporter has also followed up on the casting.
I wonder if they had this in their back pocket way back when they cast him for his voice, that he one day could end up here.
Very cool news.Remember when everyone thought he was going to play Ultron?

i love bettany and i hope he still voices jarvis while hes vision too. also, i love vision. But I'm really nervous that this movie is going to be overstuffed character wise. I suppose if anyone can do it, Joss can
Wow, that is a big spoiler, and very cool news! I have no doubt that if he's in there, he's in there for a reason.
Joss really likes mindscrewing with his fandom, doesn't he?

I mean, as soon as we heard Coulson was being resurrected? Some fans were warming up the band for the "Coulson's gonna be Vision!" parade...but that was a big ole "Nope!" Then, after news of Ultron being the Big Bad for Avengers 2: Age of Ultron? Tune was tweaked to "JARVIS will evolve and go rogue as Ultron! Bettany gets to get his villian freak on!"...but another big ole "Nope!"

Now, we find out Avengers 2 is gonna have the crazy hybrid love-child of those two rumours...and it's gonna be epic. It's the best kind of trolling ever!
Vision? Scarlet Witch? Holy crap, now all my favorite Avengers ever will be in the next Avengers movie, which will be written and directed by Joss Whedon!! How could this movie possibly get more awesome?
I loved Bettany since "Knight's Tale" and "Master & Commander", glad he'll get to be physically in one of these MCU films.
I don't think I've ever seen Bettany in a live action role. I wonder if he will keep the Jarvis-voice, or change it into something more commanding and decisive. Jarvis has been nothing more than a servant to Tony for two Iron Man films and one Avengers film, but he was beginning to act with a certain degree of free will during Iron Man 3. I don't remember the details, but he was the one who got Tony back into the fight or something. In Avengers2, it would be natural if he was the one to bring down Ultron to a beatable level, or maybe the one to actually beat him after all the other Avengers have been knocked down. He's a machine, Ultron's a machine, they're doubles on the opposite side of the moral spectrum, but maybe they have some common beliefs as well as disagreements. It sounds interesting in my head. I'm just speculating of course.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
OMG it's actually happening.

I am going to walk around with a wide grin on my face today. Best news ever!

@Sunfire I've always had his Whedonverse card ready for this moment.

The talent in the movie alone is already blowing my mind.

ETA: this reminded me of a tweet I saw last year:

Watching @Paul_Bettany and @Jon_Favreau in #wimbledon. I wonder if this is why he got the gig of Jarvis in Iron Man?

My theory is that Tony Stark uploads Jarvis(voiced by Paul Bettany) into some new creation, an android meant to take over some of his duties, but then it gets corrupted(maybe Thanos?) and it's voice/personality/look changes into Ultron played by James Spader. It gets really personal for Tony and he has to put on the Iron-Man suit again to stop his corrupted creation and maybe Jarvis is still in there somewhere.
Incredibly stoked by this news - as an old time Avengers reader back in the day I'm tickled to think what Joss can do with the Vision / Scarlet Witch / Quicksilver dynamic.

Makes me wonder:

1. Is Joss committed in a behind the scenes way to Avengers 3? Given all the ball juggling you think it'd be hard to walk away and let someone else wrap up all the threads / interlocking pieces for the inevitable Thanos conclusion

2. While I know his skill at ensembleness - Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch , Quicksilver, Vision, Fury, Maria Hill, Ultron, & Baron Strucker seems a bit .... overstuffed, even for Joss. Either some characters are getting significantly shorter screen time this go around, or the running time is getting ramped up to something along the 2:45 mark. Either way it should be fun to watch come together

Don't forget War Machine is in the film too. And alot of people are hoping Falcon makes a appearance.
There is a difference, i think, between overstuffed with central characters and overstuffed with characters, wich happens with plenty of stories, so im not worried. We dont know the level of importance, screen time and attention this characters each might have. In any case, though, everything i have read till now seems to indicate that this movie is more a story Joss wants to tell than a Marvel imposition,or at least both, so im confident that he knows what he is doing as he seems to be doing it because he thinks he needs to. Just a feeling, tough. I guess absolute artistic freedom is not likely at this level, and Marvel has a say or two.

I fully trust Joss, I'm just perplexed as how he is going to go "deeper" with the original 6 now that there are so many new characters to introduce and distribute screen time amongst.
Darkness, I think there's a level where you can have absolute artistic freedom and still be working under someone else's plan. Joss has said that Marvel had a list of things they wanted in the first Avengers film and he was happy to incorporate them. So in that way, what the studio wants is more like a waiter pointing out what's best on a menu than a parent forcing his kid to eat broccoli. I think this is a good collaboration where both sides are finding the intersection of what they want.

I am a little worried about the size of the cast, though. Not as worried as I am for the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, but a little worried.
Well, the original 6 Avengers are pretty much known (barring Hawkeye, to an extent), so there's less needed to get them explained...just added on to. So that gives more time to introducing Ultron, Vision, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.
So now we have the Vision and Scarlet Witch... when can we can a Young Avengers movie? ;D I want my Wiccan and Speed bbies!
