Scooby Doo 2 Review. "But rather than taking an if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it approach to the follow-up to their $150 million-plus-grossing hit, they've instead chosen to take those beloved Hanna-Barbera characters and give them a garish, extreme makeover.". There is a much more positive review here. Though unlike the other reviewer, this one did not like the first film.

Ouch! Guess he didn't like it! Maybe that's why SMG and FPjr aren't so gung-ho about signing up for the third installment (and if everyone else thinks it's as bad as this guy thinks, there most likely won't be a third installment).
SMG preferred this garbage to continuing with Buffy?
You know, even as a kid I was never the biggest Scooby Doo fan, but what was likable about it, I already felt was lacking in the first movie. (Except for Shaggy. That guy got the voice and mannerisms down pat.)

And yeah fart jokes are always a big no-no in my book. 'Oh but it's a kid's movie'. Yeah. ESPECIALLY in kid's movies. But it sounds like this will be even worse.

Ah well, as long as the kids like it I suppose. And as long as I can gawk at Velma's red leather suit-sequence, bwah hah hah.

As for SMG, yeah this kind of stuff, even though succesful, rarely a movie career makes. Hopefully the Grudge will do some nice business as well, or she could be just another Katie Holmes.
"In addition to having moved from their humble Mystery Inc. digs into swank corporate headquarters..."

Someone mentioned in another post that the screenwriter of this movie worked on AtS. This bit sounds kind of familiar.
Yeah, but Katie Holmes does real films once in a while (Wonder Boys, The Gift, Singing Detective.) I only liked Shaggy and Velma in the first film, and I have to agree about Velma's new outfit in this one. Rrrrrraow!
I agree, Katie Holmes actually picks some pretty great scripts. Go, Wonder Boys, The Gift, Pieces Of April, etc. I enjoyed the first Scooby film for what it was, but it seems kind of silly that this reviewer seems to be bashing the new one for having character arcs and for giving the characters more psychological depth. Isn't that normally a good thing? Of course, I haven't seen it, but it sounded like a rather ridiculous complaint to me.
"if everyone else thinks it's as bad as this guy thinks, there most likely won't be a third installment)."

All the critics gave SD1 bad reviews but the audience seemed to disagree with them and didn't SD1 gross $250m

"SMG preferred this garbage to continuing with Buffy?"

Whether she continued with Buffy or not she was committed to SD2 as the orignal contract was a 2 picture deal
Plus, Katie Holmes is in the new "Batman Lives" movie. Sarah really needs a better agent. I think she's exceedingly more talented than Katie Holmes. SMG needs to find a film that will showcase her acting abilities (in the same way she was able to do consistently on BTVS).
Well, I think their complaint with the character arcs is that it sort of doesn't fit with this kind of movie. I was surprised at how much I liked the first one--it seemed almost like the Brady Bunch Movie for kids, in the way they parodied so much of the cartoon. Which is why character introspection doesn't really fit. It's meant to be a light-hearted movie for, primarily, children. Not that children can't handle character arcs, but. Not really the point in a movie like this, I guess.

I realise that it probably isn't the best comparison, but if in the middle of, say, the Brady Bunch Movie, Cindy suddenly couldn't get along with Mr Brady and found him strange and creepy, that would be kind of weird. Like if it got serious and they had to learn to become father and daughter? Very far from the original Brady Bunch, which, I think, is what this person's complaint is with SD2. There wasn't character introspection in the cartoon, so having it in movies that light-heartedly mock the cartoon is even weirder.

Just my two cents, anyway.
the first did great despite bad reviews, and so will this one. i think the critics need to keep in mind the audience that this film is intending to hit. look at cat in the hat......that got absolutely horrible reviews yet it made a lot of money. my nieces and nephews love it so i guess they did something right
Well, I did enjoy the first one and like people have already said, the critics don't always agree with what the public likes so we'll just have to wait and see what the public says. Anyway, I don't think there was anything wrong with her choosing these movies. She's famous for Buffy and this is a totally different part that shows she can do comedy too. Next she'll be coming out in The Grudge and that sounds like it's going to be really good. Successful actors are able to do different types of roles. Look at how many different parts Tom Hanks has played.

Also, I don't have the exact numbers but I think she made a heck of a lot more money doing the first Scooby movie than she made doing a season of Buffy. If she ends up with a successful movie career she'll make much more money and have a lot more free time.

And a tad off topic, SMG is on next Sunday's Simpson's. They did a nice promo for it after tonight's episode where they show a picture of SMG and say something like "Sarah Michelle Gellar is a good girl, but next week..." and then they have her face morph into the bad girl character.
