The 15 best sci-fi and fantasy television episodes of 2014. The Agents of SHIELD Season 2 premiere features in this Blastr list.

Really? The premiere was great, but if we're talking 2014 episodes I would have picked Turn, Turn, Turn or What They Become.
I would have also put What They Become. Or if you want a regular episode and not a midseason finale then A Hen in the Wolf House.

And for Orphan Black I would have picked Governed as It Were by Chance, it's an all around strong episode but that bathroom scene at the end was nothing short of extraordinary acting from Maslany which is saying something.
No Atlantis?

I worry that a lot of people are missing out on just how much that series has improved. Like a lot of great genre shows before (Babylon 5, Fringe, Buffy, Angel, all the Star Trek's after the first) it's built tremendously on it's beginnings and what was a sometimes fun but often juvenile show has become a real contender that easily counts amongst the best sci-fi and fantasy of the year imo.
I think most of Atlantis' potential audience bailed early in the 1st season. I've heard nothing about it since and had no idea that it improved. There has been zero mention of it by any TV critics that I follow.

I've not done extensive polling or research (or much at all really), but I suspect the same.

As ever in these things, it could just be me, but I'd be willing to wager a fair amount that people would see at least some difference if they tried it again. Honestly though, I was watching the end of S4 of 'Homeland' and wondering why it couldn't be as good. And thinking of all that syfy has aired this year and thought the same. I'm not calling it the best show on tv or anything, but I do worry that it may be massively overlooked, like, say, 'The Americans'.

I think it likely that at least some saw no reason to give it another chance, considering all else that is out there to watch. I could, of course, be mistaken though.
One wonders if the person writing this hasn't seen "What They Become"yet.
I think the premiere is a good choice, because it shows that after the unsteadiness and catching their stride through Season One, they can hit the ground running for Season Two (which they did).

A case could definitely be made for Turn Turn Turn, if you are looking at the whole near and not the new season.
