I wanted to also get the other book from the same publisher, Gender in Science Fiction Films, 1964-1979. Then I read the blurb.
The 1950s era of science fiction film effectively ended when space flight became a reality with the first manned orbit of Earth in 1962.
If you can't remember Yuri Gagarin on April 12th, 1961, you're dead to me.
