Discuss Joss's Dark Horse panel at SDCC. It's 4:45 - 5:30 pm Pacific.

This feels like a panel from the pre-Marvel years. Anything could happen.
Exciting! I can't wait for all of the SDCC videos to start showing up on YouTube. (I may have spent the last couple of days, which coincidentally were the last couple of days at my job before I take the summer off and then go back to school, catching up on old SDCC and NerdHQ vids.)

I'm also extra excited because I installed the IGN app on my Roku, and I can watch Joss's NerdHQ conversation tomorrow on my big projector screen. The streaming seems to be working well, and it'll be almost as nice as being there except for the part where I won't have an opportunity to ask questions.

So happy for/jealous of/but relieved not to be everybody at SDCC!

Haha my sentiments exactly!
Thanks for the liveblog link. Following along (45 minutes is not enough time!).
""Joss Whedon’s TWIST is a six-issue comic next year. It’s about the most important moral question of our day: “Why isn’t there a Victorian female Batman?”"

YES
“Comic-con: The cure for Twitter.”

Hilarious.
*restrains herself and doesn't immediately create a new TWIST fansite*
Looks like CBR has a Twist cover. Also, in the category of glaringly obvious, hello Mr. Dickens who is one of Joss's biggest inspirations.
That premise sounds extremely Joss-y. :)
Why are gears on Twist's arms? Also why is a polar bear on the Island?!
Could be gears. Could be tattoos of gears. Could be fabric. The bear represents the potential of the Island to be anything the inhabitants wanted, but they were stupid adults and ignored the obvious and made themselves miserable instead of creating a utopia for themselves because none of them thought they deserved it.
Details from Dark Horse via EW:

“It’s a Victorian thriller about a meek chambermaid who is fed to a dark horror — but instead of dying, she returns, with knowledge, power, and rage she can neither deny nor control,” Whedon told EW in a statement via Dark Horse. Expect a strong steampunk aesthetic, some dark knight thematics, and Whedon’s typically imaginative, provocative approach to political, social, and feminist concerns.

...

While the deal for Twist just came together, Whedon has been noodling the idea for quite awhile. The comic — which will launch as a six-issue mini-series — doesn’t yet have a release date. It doesn’t have an artist yet, either, but it will soon. Julian Totino Tedesco drew the image you see here, but he isn’t expected to draw the series. Nate Piekos of Blambot created the logo.

BTW, new Joss stories!! Yay. I'm giddy for this.
From the above HitFix liveblog:

Question about getting more Latino characters in the Whedonverse: Joss says, “I’ve been knocked a few times about my work when it comes to race representation and my response is ‘Yeah good call.’” Whedon continues that his focus has always been gender but yes the landscape of America and the world is more diverse than he has focused on and going forward he is cognizant of being better about that.

"This is the most beautiful murder weapon I've ever received. And just how beautifully the scratched out JJ Abrams' name is so sweet," says Whedon. "I am really grateful. Thank you."

Hahaha.
And we haven't even touched on Scott's intro that mentioned new Serenity comics with Jeanty on art duties once more.
So it's about a weaponized woman reclaiming her power for herself?

I'm so there.
Huh. I did not see the Serenity news on Twitter. That is very good news though.

omg spoilers
Damn, I wish someone had asked him an update on his project with Warren Ellis, Wastelanders. As that was what he was set to do before Avengers and got caught up in that whirlwind that is Marvel Studios. I was really hoping to hear about some if any process on it, although Twist sounds awesome!
Numfar TPB thanks for the news on Serenity comics I was hoping for that. Will they still be Serenity comics or Firefly as the rights are heading back to Fox.

Joss in a previous interview earlier this year hinted that 'Wastelanders' time has passed and most likely won't happen.
Presumably the property will continue technically to be Serenity: Firefly Class 03-K64, which is what it became during the rights transition.
Wait if I missed it im sorry but did joss talk about the Buffy comic AT ALL?
mark214-Nope it was mostly Twist, non-Buffy Q & A from the audience and his surprise award. Allie mentioned the Serenity comics are starting again though.

I'm guessing this is dead, at least with Joss's involvement. He mentioned in an interview during the Ultron press tour that when he and Ellis conceived it, it was a much more radical idea-and-format because web video was less developed. Sounded like the times sort of passed the project by while Joss was doing his Marvel thing.

But maybe they're still working on it! That was just the impression I got from his answer.
Just reinforcing what b!X said regarding Serenity / Firefly comics, seems like Universal is out of the picture in terms of the licensing deal with Dark Horse.

Shepherd's Tale which was released in 2010 was the last title released under the Universal license:
Serenity © 2010 Universal Studios. Licensed by Universal Studios Licensing LLLP.

Last year's, Leaves on the Wind, shift things around during the transition, and point to all the license being dealt with FOX instead already:
Firefly™ and Serenity: Firefly Class 03-K64™ & © 2014 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. All Rights Reserved

They'll probably just keep that going next year.
[Edit to correct typo]

Was anything said about whether the Buffy comics would continue past the current season?
No news about Buffyverse comics from the panel.
They might be saving that for NYCC though, Season 10 was officially announced during NYCC 2013.
Though happening is very likely, considering that both titles are among best selling titles from the publisher.
Well, he could tell us Cordelia's mother's maiden name was Garcia. Not being smart here either.
I digress.

The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith podcast was allowed to share the entire recording of the panel. In case someone comes back to this, here's the link.

The richest part of this recording, is that unlike some of the high quality recordings I watched on Youtube, Scott Allie's intro is presented here in its entirety, including the news about the Leaves on the Wind follow-up and Season 10 news that mentions the 25 issue length of A&F and 30 issue length for Buffy for the season.
