Alan Sepinwall at NJ.com comments on the state of television. More of a rant really. Mentions Tru Calling, Wonderfalls and Buffy.

He really doesn't like Tru Calling. It hasn't aired over here, so I wouldn't know.

I only caught one episode and thought it was really bad. But since then I've heard others on this site actually say they felt the same thing but it's gotten better. All that proves to me is that, if given a chance, most shows will find an audience. I have nothing against Tru Calling and hope for it's fans sake it continues, but what irks me is why it was given a chance to find an audience and other shows are so quickly cancelled. I found I had to agree with mostly everything he said.

I too will be disgusted if The Swan is a hit. And as for those Bachelor/Bacherlorette shows - if these people can't find someone on their own in real life, there has got to be something wrong with them.

Maybe the show gets canceled every week, but Dushku's character goes back in time to save it.

Classic!

I think Tru is a decent enough show. Eliza does a pretty good job with what she's given, but the writing isn't multifaceted as is/was the case with Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and Wonderfalls. It's easy to watch an episode of Tru and forget what it was about 5 minutes after it's over.
Here's the thing--ED can act, given the material and the direction. Check her out in City by the Sea with Robert DeNiro, in which she doesn't have nearly enough to do. Tru doesn't scratch the surface of what her capabilities.
"If Fox's The Swan is a big hit, I give up. Not on TV...I give up on America."

Don't any of the networks comprehend that the big, fat, selfish, shallow bully image the rest of the world has of The United States comes mostly from its entertainment? I say this as an American.
And why does plastic surgery seem so "trendy"? Are people that unhappy with themselves that they will have unnecessary surgery to have a mask they can never take off? It seems rants are contagious. Sorry about that.
Maeve:
I think you're right - Eliza Dushku was really great in City by the Sea. She outshone Robert DeNiro in their scenes together.

When I saw the ad for "Swan" my mouth literally fell open. I cannot believe TV has sunk so low, and that a good show like Wonderfalls has to suffer for it.

"Don't any of the networks comprehend that the big, fat, selfish, shallow bully image the rest of the world has of The United States comes mostly from its entertainment"

Now, now, the politicians have a LOT to do with that too;-)

And Eliza is the best thing about Tru. And I suppose it has improved a bit but it's just so mediocre. And it has had almost a season by now to find it's footing I just realized.

And yeah 'The Swan' is yet a new low in the reality genre. How they manage to find ways to go deeper and deeper.....
