Whedon's women: Melinda May and Maria Hill as transgressive superheroines. This is an excerpt from the "After the Avengers: From Joss Whedon's Hottest, Newest Franchises to the Future of the Whedonverse" book.

Calling Melinda "pale white" is a bit of a stretch, even as a metaphor. (But if I ever get doing anything in my fantasy world of Not-Earth, this seems like a good model to use for my Queen Elaine character.)

Interesting read, however I kept getting distracted by the postmodern language, which I really have an aversion to. Writing in that fashion seems to be an exclusionary tactic. If I'd been required to write my thesis using postmodern lingo, I'd have quit grad school!
