(SPOILER) Another Contender for the Most Buffyesque New Series. Vox critic, Todd VanDerWerff thinks "The Magicians" is like "some long-lost second cousin of Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

His rave review and description of the show, now in it's second season, includes point by point comparisons with BtVS.

I quite like The Magicians, and think it is one of the best of the shows on SiFi. The characters are truly relatable, and the arcs they have- Julia most notably- are compelling. I am wondering where they will take the show, since it has now moved away from its source material in significant ways. I do not feel it is a truly apt comparator for Buffy; clearly, it is a counter to Harry Potter. If there is any show that I think has Buffy's ethos, it is Wynonna Earp. And that will be back soon as well.
Oh ick, I uh, disagree.
It was one of those shows I was going to get into last year but it was a toss up between this and The Expanse (I think). There's just too much telly at the minute.
In my part of the woods, Simon, The Expanse directly follows The Magicians, so I get both of them.
Huh. I think I remember hearing about this show when it started, but dismissing it because it sounded like a Harry Potter knockoff. Maybe I'll have to give it a look. Syfy shows are VERY hit or miss. Mostly miss.
I rather like "Sweet/Vicious", myself.
I like The Magicians, but it is not really like Buffy. It's got its own rhythm and pacing.

A series I think is more like Buffy is Crazyhead on Netflix.
