Powers Boothe,'The Avengers' and 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.', actor dies at age 68. Known for playing wealthy men of power, Boothe was a recent addition to the Whedonverse playing a World Security Council member in 'Marvel's The Avengers', and then a member of Hydra named Gideon Malick in 'Marvel's Agents of SHIELD'.

oh god dammit
Well boo, I liked him.
Side note: he was playing the same character across both the first Avengers film and in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Gideon Malick was that hawkish "let's-bomb-the-shit-outta-New-York" World Security Council Member, dialogue in Season 3 either outright confirmed it or heavily implied it to be the case. Maybe it was covered in interviews with showrunners as well at the time, but I'm not sure.

Sad that he's gone -- he was great in so many things, but I'll always remember him best as Cy from Deadwood.
:( good actor. Condolences to his family.
Damn - always liked him, loved his work on AoS. If you haven't seen it, search out his early star turn in Walter Hill's 'Southern Comfort'
I have never been able to watch him in any of his many roles without thinking of his incredible performance at Jim Jones back in the early 1980s. Sorry to see him pass away at a relatively young age.
I'm so old that I remember Boothe best from the first time I saw him--in his 1980 TV movie performance as cult leader Jim Jones in "Guyana Tragedy". Won him an Emmy, too.
I didn't realise he was in 'By Dawn's Early Light' which is a gem of a TV B-movie.
So sad. I always think of him in Deadwood, although I knew who he was from seeing him in movies long before seeing him in Deadwood. I loved his voicework for Gorilla Grod too.
