Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 returning in January? Screen Rant points to statements made by visual effects supervisor Mark Kolpack on Twitter. Even with no breaks this likely means the show will run into next June.

Don't think it has to run into June necessarily. Everyone's forgetting 24 ran 24 episodes for years January-May. Just need to get a few two hour eps in there.
June 1st if there aren't any doubles.
Seems odd/unlikely that the visual effects supervisor would know the mid season scheduling plans this far out. My guess is the head of scheduling doesn't know what the final schedule will be in January at this point. I would take this with a huge grain of salt. Just in case anyone (crazy people) was setting their clock by this. :)
No American mid-season breaks. I hope this means E4 can show it in the UK the week they are shown in the US.
Less than a week after getting assigned to the Friday night death slot and we've already got scheduling confusion. Now let's put the first episode in the middle and preempt the show for baseball when spring rolls around.
Very happy we're getting another season. But 22 weeks without a single break. That's... a whole lot of Agents of SHIELD.

But Friday nights can't be any more of a "death slot" than where it is now. I think ABC just assumes now that most people are watching this time-shifted. And the show is less threatened with pre-emption in this slot, because nobody puts any kind of event on Friday nights.
The 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea begins Friday, February 9, 2018.
I think NBC has the rights to the Olympics.
and it means we "ignore" SHIELD for three weeks until we realize we delay it until Saturday afternoon.
