Joss Whedon will begin working on Batgirl next year. In an interview with IGN, Geoff Johns said "and Batgirl - we are doing Batgirl with Joss Whedon, it’s going to be super exciting. He’s going to start that next year, and that’s just the start."

So they seem to fast tracking it for a either a 2019 or 2020 release.
With Batman and the 2020 election we probably won't see anything original from Joss in the next 4/5 years...
I am very excited about this, as it seems (from afar) that Joss is still reeling a little from the Age of Ultran/election of Trump experience. Hopefully, this will be a good experience, and Joss will rediscover the joy of telling stories about kick-ass heroines.
