Has posing for Playboy hurt Charisma's film career?
According to Greg Rucka, Wonder Woman comic book writer, her posing has 'more than likely' ruined her chance of getting the role.
I say bleh to that. She's a good actress. And most movie starlets have done very similar photo spreads in FHM, Maxim etc and no one has batted an eyelid.

I don't think CC being in Playboy will have any effect on her pursuit of a movie career, unless she starts going for G-rated roles.

Also, I'd like to see her move toward more substantive work. Unless my critical faculties have completely gone into orbit, she's a gifted actress with tremendous range and nuance, a fabulous sense of comic timing, and a rare beauty, as well.

It's a hard one to really judge though because if her career goes nowhere everyone will say it's because she posed in Playboy and it could just be that is something that would've happened anyways - meaning a lot of people on successful shows don't necessarily have successful careers afterwards. But if it turns out that it's one of Playboys highest selling issues, that could open the door for her to play sexier roles.

IMO, she wasn't very good doing evil or drama, but she's good
in comedy.

But back on topic, can posing for Playboy in this day and age really hurt someone's film career? Are we in 1955 again? I don't see why taking a few tasteful nude pictures would be such a big deal. Then again, I didn't understand why 5 seconds of a breast on the Super Bowl was newsworthy either, so maybe I'm in the minority.

To bring up one (strange) example, before that reality show, the biggest thing most people knew about in regards to Jessica Simpson was the fact that she was a virgin. The general media public tends to latch onto things that celebrities do in regards to sex more than their actual body of work. If the media latched onto her as Charisma Carpenter Who Recently Posed in Playboy, I definitely think it could hurt her career. At least, depending on the roles she was aiming for and the people behind them. I am sure there are people who would not want to cast an actress who was associated with posing for Playboy above anything else, depending upon the role. It's a bit prudish, but that's just how people are.
Now, I don't see that happening to Charisma anyway -- I think she's a bit too under the radar for anyone to really care that she posed for Playboy. I don't mean that offensively, either, I just don't think she's high profile enough for the media to really latch onto it. But if that did happen, I think it would hurt her career.

I do have hope that people in the industry are wise enough not to think of nude photos in Playboy as a black mark against a talented woman.

But I agree that it's doubtful she had a chance. If you don't watch Buffy, you probably never even heard of her outside of the odd magazine. I disagree she's too old though. Wonder Woman is supposed to be an immortal greek goddess-of-sorts anyway.
I'd still pick her over Sarah. Sarah is simply too short and tiny. I should add I don't particularly care about the character and can't see a good movie coming out of this, but if I had to choose I'd say Lucy Lawless. Cliched as it seems she's got what it takes.
As for wether or not the Playboy shoot hurts CC's career....I don't know. I doubt it does much damage, but it won't help her, that's for sure. But there are so many playboys coming out in a year, and our culture increasingly knows nothing but the present and maybe what happened last week, so...

However - CC is bucking trends left right and center. She's already somewhat famous, so she did this because she wanted to, not because she needed to - she's had a child before the shoot, and so may be taken as brave/empowering rather than desperate, which isn't (necessarily) a bad thing - and she's already had 7 or so years of continuous TV acting experience.
The magic 8-ball says: future inderminate, try again after next featured role. It was definitely a gamble - but I'm so not going to be second guessing Lady Fate. That way lies hubris and weird things involving my mother.

I say good for her. I just had a baby too 3 months ago and I don't look any where near that good.

Willowy--congratulations!
But: I always have to laugh when I hear about actors shedding their clothes being "brave." Many things, not all bad, not all good, but I just don't see bravery entering the mix.
I hope to be able to enjoy Charisma's charisma for many years to come.

I thought I was done, and at 42, not a reaaallly good idea to have a baby, but she is a wonderful surprise! Lucky I finally got my girl, too. I was determined to name this baby Willow. Imagine the playground cruelty if she had been a BOY!
Sorry, mods, about the off-topic comment...
