Buffy movie news? The usually reliable British newspaper, the Sunday Times, mentions the following: " Angel and Buffy’s creator, Joss Whedon, is pondering a big-screen Buffy that may include key British scenes".

Make of that what you will. But thats the first time I've seen the UK mentioned in conjunction with a big screen Buffy movie. But it could be just a mix up with the Ripper TV movie.

Posters outside the UK may find that you have to subscribe to read this but that's all the info the Sunday Times has to say in its Hollywood news/gossip column.

"The usually reliable British newspaper, the Sunday Times..."?

I would argue that The Sunday Times is little more than a tabloid in broadsheet form these days. Don't believe it. Personally, I would be surprised to if there is a Buffy movie on the horizon, but you never can tell.
.
The reliability of the Times aside (isn't it owned by Murdoch now?), it wouldn't surprise me if a Buffy movie included key scenes in the U.K. There's the Deeper Well (from whence Illyria rose) over there and there's Giles and the reassembled remnants of the Watchers' Council.....if there were a major "call to arms" for the scattered Scoobies it may indeed usher them to England. And how Angel wraps up and what loose ends are left hanging could also factor in.
"Personally, I would be surprised to if there is a Buffy movie on the horizon, but you never can tell."

Well, Nicholas Brendon said it's going to happen.
Yes, he is supposed to have said this. I would like to see official confirmation from a film studio and from M.E. that it's definitely going to happen. Basically, where's the money coming coming from? There seems to be lots of talk of a "TV" movie. Would Sarah Michelle Gellar really be interested in this? I suspect she has other offers coming her way that would be more enticing.
I think the movie is likely in the writing stages, and Nick knew because Joss had asked his cast to find out which ones were available, it's why Nick's said there's going to be one, why Sarah has changed her "never" to "never say never" and why Emma was wondering how Joss would bring her back if they did a movie. Joss doesn't need a studio in order to write the flick, butI don't think he'll have trouble finding one, Serenity being a hit would help too.
I cant wait for a Buffy/Angel movie. And by the way for anyone who cares, the coa forums back up.
In a recent interview SMG talked about what her future holds and mentioned something about tv too. So I don't think she is ruling out tv at all. Considering there is a lot of buzz going on as Ghost Spike has said, it does seem like there is some talking going on behind the scenes. I for one, though, hope it will be a big screen movie if there is to be a movie. They can do way more with it and no commercials is a huge plus.
Would Sarah Michelle Gellar really be interested in this? I suspect she has other offers coming her way that would be more enticing.

While she's definitely getting plenty of movie offers, I'm not sure how many of them would look quite as enticing as some big-screen Buffy action...I mean, making the transition from TV Actor to Movie Actor is no easy feat, and being involved in something proven, like a Buffy movie, might make the transition a little easier--we would no longer view the Scoobies as just TV characters, likewise with the actors that portray them. Also on the "Pro" side of the big Should I do the Buffy Movie or Not list might be the whole reunion aspect of the thing. Well, "Pro" depending on which internet rumors you choose to believe...I'm of the It Was Seven Years Together, How Could There Not Be Some Separation Anxiety There? camp.

But then again, last time I checked (which, admittedly, doesn't happen half as often as it should), I'm not Sarah Michelle Gellar's brain. So, well, feel free to ignore my opinion.
Very good points. I would love to see a Buffy movie happen, but I must admit I remain slightly sceptical. However, who knows what might happen a couple of years down the line... Of course, there's nothing to say there couldn't be a 'Vampire Slayer' movie without SMG, although I guess JW would prefer to have her on board.
blwessels- I apologize for my earlier comments at the other message board. I shouldn't angrily lash out until I am sure that I'm being attacked. As for a Buffy/Angel movie, great idea. That would be both fan pleasing and pleasing for moviegoers. I really think that a movie would attract more fans, people who were aware of the show but didnt watch.
I think SMG has done a fine job making the transition to movie actor, actually--I don't feel like she's in the process of doing it, rather, I feel she already did it. I don't have many friends who watch Buffy or Angel, and none of them really think of SMG as Buffy, or, likewise, a television actress. I think a lot of people who don't watch the Jossverse think of her from I Know What You Did Last Summer or Cruel Intentions more than anything else. In fact, I know of more than a few people who, unfortunately, class SMG among the ranks of Jennifer Love Hewitt and other 'teen movie' type actresses from the late nineties, and won't watch Buffy because they dislike SMG based on her movies. I can think of one person in particular who was surprised a few years ago when she realised Buffy was still on TV and that SMG was still doing it.

Anyway, I'm not sure we should single SMG out as someone who wouldn't consider a TV movie. SMG makes a lot of surprising choices. For instance, I remember her mentioning once that she'd always wanted to do a sitcom, which a lot of actresses shy away from, especially if they started in movies. Reasonably so, I think, as if the sitcom's successful they might have a hard time getting back into movies, but it's more likely for sitcoms to flop. Getting back on track, I don't think SMG would rule something out just because it was a television movie, or at least I don't think she would be the only person to do so if she did. Let's face it, a television movie doesn't hold much appeal for actors or anyone else. Which is not to say that I wouldn't enjoy it, but they aren't often well-respected, unfortunately.
weatherby. I have the same with my friends, they know SMG from IKWYDLS and Scream etc.

That's actually were I knew her from too. I saw IKWYDLS and Scream before I saw her on Buffy. That's actually why I started to watch Buffy, cause I recognise her from IKWYDLS and maybelline and was curious. I saw a repeat of "The Pack" and saw SMG and I was like "Were did I see her before".
Weatherby, you have succinctly said exactly what I was trying to say, but failed rather miserably to do so. Thank you. I agree with you entirely. I like SMG enormously and I think she has made some very good movies. 'Harvard Man' is a particular favourite of mine. I think she will will make better movies in the future. Maybe these will include a Buffy movie.

Going back to an earlier comment, while Joss Whedon doesn't need studio backing to write a script, he will certainly need it to make a film. It's a hugely expensive undertaking and there are a lot of potential stumbling blocks along the way.
Sorry if my post came off as more ramblings from the Anti-Sarah Coalition...I really have no hard feelings towards the actress, and didn't mean to belittle the success she's had on the big screen. I was simply trying to consider what aspects might come into play when it comes to choosing whether or not to participate in a future Buffyverse movie. And you guys are right in regards to the movie career...she's in a much better position than, say, anyone from the cast of "Friends" will be in after this Thursday.

I guess "transition" was just the wrong word choice. Sorry again if it sounded like I was trying to stir up trouble.
Oh, I didn't think you were insulting her at all! I just think it's harder for us to picture the way any of the actors from ME look to people who haven't watched the shows, so I was just trying to offer that perspective.
VampiresSuck, I didn't see any problems in your posting at all. You made some very valid points. These debates are great because there are so many many different points of view. If only we *could* get into the brains of these people and know what is really going on. I guess it wouldn't be as much fun that way!
I'm of the mind that a Buffy movie will happen. It's only a matter of time.
Yeah but then you have to ask the one question - will it be the original cast or will they recast the whole movie (depending on how long it takes I guess) - but I give it 5 years if it doesn't happen within that time frame - I have a feeling if Joss did bring Buffy back the studio would ask for younger actors. It's not like it hasn't been done before. Buffy the movie (1992) verus Buffy the series (1997) - hmmm 5 years between them. So I'm guessing the current cast has until 2008 before they are replaced, except perhaps for Marsters who will pushing a little to close to 50 for the studios comfort, unless he can hold his looks together, may I suggest for him to start botox treatments now. :)

Just kidding he'll be just as sexy at 46 as he is now (only the ageless vampire thing might be a little harder to swallow). However on a good note, since he stopped smoking he may have prevented some of the pre-mature aging damage it can cause.
Well, for someone who has a good ten years on the majority of the primary cast, I'm very impressed with the consistency of the way Spike has looked over the years. You can see some aging, but it's nothing drastic. I think Boreanaz would be harder to swallow as an ageless vampire in five years. ;)
Id really like to read this article. unfortunately, it says that I have to register and theres a fee and thats just lame

so if anyone can help me out.....
