Ju-On Coming To U.S - The original movie SMGs new movie is based on "Lions Gate will release Takashi Shimizu's original Japanese supernatural horror film Ju-On (The Grudge) in Los Angeles and New York on July 23, before expanding its limited release to other American cities"

It then will be released in Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego and Seattle.

You might have missed this:

This isn't for SMG's movie, this is for the original. The American version will come out in the fall (probably wide release).

From the article:

"Sony is currently producing an American version of the movie, also directed by Shimizu. That film, titled The Grudge, is currently in post-production and stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jason Behr, but it won't hit theaters until the fall."
BTW, having seen this movie, I can safely say it sucks.
Movies sucking is a matter of opinion

Personally I think ET sucks but I understand other people might disagree
Thanks Invisible Green - I did miss that and that makes more sense. I couldn't understand why they'd just release it to a few theaters. Now my question is why are they releasing the original before the American version has come out? Aren't they risking loosing some of the audience that way if they go and see the original they might not want to bother with the US one.

I've changed the subject line so it has the correct info.

Due to the disappointment of "The Ring" and the "Ringu" series, I think it is safe to say that this movie might be bad. However, it does star SMG and has a great cast, and as long as it doesn't have a PG-13 rating, I think we can expect decent things from this movie. Its good to know that "Ju-on" is being released I'd like to check it out. But so far, American remakes of Japanese classic horror movies has been done badly, I hope The Grudge proves this wrong.
I think The Grudge being produced by the same team should make a big difference. They supposedly improved on the original plot and put in more of what the director originally wanted because they had a bigger budget.
the ring was awesome, i know i will love this movie as well.
