SFX issue 118- major Angel feature. Less than two weeks to go and many fans will be looking for magazine coverage of the end of Angel. This month's SFX has the David Boreanaz interview you will want to read.

And if anyone has already read the interview, do please discuss it. U.S. readers should be able to order it or pick it up at their local Barnes and Nobles.

Thank you Simon and actually - no you cannot pick it up at Barnes and Noble at least not in the Mid West region - I have called they do not carry this particular magazine at this time - but they may carry it next quarter - they change magazines every quarter in each region. Grr Argh!!!!!!!! I am trying to locate any other bookstore that might and have not found one yet that carries it. If anyone can find a book or magazine seller that carries it in the US please post where.
Every Borders store I frequent (four that are near me) gets this magazine, but on a several-week delay from the pub date. I would expect to see the issue around June 1 at Borders. Hope that helps!
Barnes & Noble's the only shop I've ever seen SFX in in the States, usually about 2 months old though. I'd imagine Borders is a possibility, don't recall seeing it in one before, but seeing as how the ones in the UK sell Entertainment Weekly, and even TV Guide I'd imagine it's definitly possible. Shame that it's difficult for you to get over there, 'cos it's a good magazine.

Heh, I could buy some and start posting them out when I'm in California in a few months.

That was a joke, by the way.

A much more positive interview, I thought. DB obviously has mixed feelings about the cancellation. Looking forward to trying new roles, but sad to be leaving Angel behind. At least we know that he would have been willing to do one last season if the WB had picked it up. He seems to have a lot of respect for the fans, something that hasn't come across very well in other interviews I've seen. Good luck David! I hope to see you playing Angel again one day.
A transcript of the interview can be found here (thanks to tantrums for the original link). :D Sorry Simon, just couldn't resist.

the cranberry juice analogy is slightly disturbing

but that's a great interview
Nice interview! And Love ya and all David you slurp worthy piece of specimen you, but thank the lord you're not a writer. I don't think I would have lasted the entire season if it had revolved around Spike and Angel any more than it did especially after "The Girl in Question".

*sigh*
There has been a lot of pressure on me throughout the seasons of the show and it felt like a big weight had been lifted off my shoulders," he sighs. "To be completely honest, it was a feeling of rejuvenation for me. It felt like a cleaning process - it made me look back on a period of my life and realise what was good and exorcise what was bad about it. And then I could put it all aside and move on, so I felt very light......This is a bittersweet ending. It's sweet on my behalf in that I'm able to spread my wings and go forward with my career and play other characters that I think will be very much enhancing to me. But then it's bitter for the Angel fans.

Still not hearing anything about missing the show for himself. Ah well, maybe he won't miss it at all. Certainly the impression I got. He implied he'd have done another season, for the fans. I guess that's something. He also mentioned that it was a great character and it helped his career. But I genuinely get the feeling he's not even slightly upset the show is ending. Well, maybe also the bit about Glenn Quinn was telling. What makes a job really enjoyable is your coworkers, and if you don't make friends, the workplace can suck. He doesn't mention missing anyone specific on the current cast.(Talking about sports on the set doesn't really imply closeness to me) And it's possible that he didn't want to make friends after Quinn. Who knows?

So okay, I can accept he won't miss the show and is just tickled pink to be done. That point has been driven home MANY times. Still seems like a sore contrast to the fans who fought long and hard and will be mourning the ending. I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with the fact that he thinks the fans deserved one more year. Not quite Joss' "My heart is breaking," but hey, it'll have to do.
Kaivaal - Thanks for the transcript!

I'm happy he's happy but it truly does sound like he's totally relieved it's all over. Maybe he didn't enjoy it but it sounds like he would've kept doing the show if it had continued. And I've been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt from past excerpts of interviews but this was a very long one and, again, he just doesn't sound at all upset that it's all over with. It kind of bothered me his "bittersweet" quote that Rogue Slayer just quoted, how it is sweet for him that it's all done but bitter for the fans. I can understand maybe he was ready to end it but does he have to make a point of sounding so happy about it over and over and constantly making a point of saying how happy he is? I mean, personally, if I was quitting a job that I couldn't wait to leave, I wouldn't go around to all my co-workers exulting my joy at finally getting out of this dump. I'd show some consideration for them, and lie and tell them I'd miss them all and it was a wonderful experience. David, it's okay to tell some little white lies if they are for the good! Us fans would love to hear how much you are going to miss it all!

When I've seen footage of them (the cast) on the set they all look to be having a great time but it isn't surprising that they might not be so close in real life. This type of show has long hours, especially for the leads and with personal relationships and now children there probably isn't a lot of free time. Doesn't mean they weren't friendly and happy at work, just not much of the wanting to be with the same people all day.
"I can understand maybe he was ready to end it but does he have to make a point of sounding so happy about it over and over and constantly making a point of saying how happy he is?"

Yeah that about sums it up. It's good for him he's happy, but many other people aren't. Including his coworkers. DB's reaction over has just really really surprised me. He was always very enthusiastic about the show but the main gist is still 'Yipiiee, I'm done with it!'. Well, I understand now how he was capable of trying to cheer up his coworkers when they just found out; he really was cheerful!

Well, as I said, just surprised me a bit. Quite a contrast with most of the others. Everyone else was very sad and dissappointed and would've loved for it to go on.
Kaivaal, thank-you for the transcript.

It seems everyone is sharing the same opinion here. DB wanted to move on from the character that made him, I don't see anything wrong with that, however, a more sympathetic approach would have been nice.
I have to agree with EdDantes, it is a surprise to see the contrast among the shows regulars.
RavenU, I wouldn't worry too much about locating a B&N or Borders in the area that has it - - Buffystore.com usually has ALL the magazines that feature Buffy and Angel up in very short order. You should be able to get it there. Other places to check might be My Comic Shop.Com or you could try ordering out of the Previews mag which is available at any good comic shop.
Are we all grown ups here? Has anyone ever been let go from a job or given what that feels like any thought? I believe that David is putting himself out there for possible casting directors. Yeah...I did this (Angel) and it is ending (not his doing) but I'm ready to try something new. Give me a shot.

I don't understand what any sane person would want from him that he has not all ready given. It seems that everyone here would like to see him have a major meltdown. I would not wish that on my worse enemy. Why would I wish it on him. He said he would of liked to do another season...to give it a proper send off. He said he will miss the crew and the cast. He has all ready said how much the AtS fans have meant to him.

He HAS to look forward. It's his job. He must now look at finding another job. Period. It's not hard to understand.

OR maybe we should just torture and stake him. Be done with it.

oy, don't give the Puppet!Angel to a little boy!! Please, I will keep it safe for Jaden...
Wow, Coll, I think the personal attacks on people's maturity and sanity is a little uncalled for.

I don't think I posted anything in an immature or insane manner and I don't think I didn't put myself in his place. I'm happy, he's happy to be moving on, I wish him the best and good luck to him. But considering there are millions of fans out there and the rest of his cast who are upset about this whole thing, I think he could've at least toned down his joy a bit at it all being over with. Yes, it's good to say I'm looking forward to seeing what my future holds but at the same time he could say how much he'll miss Angel or miss the role he's played for 8 years. He didn't say it, I wasn't saying he was evil, I was just saying, for me, it would've been nice to hear that.

I don't think saying that makes me immature, insane or out for vengeance.

...not meant personally blwessels. And yes, now that I reread it...a little cold...I apologize. I should of been more thoughtful and choosy with my wording. The process of my thoughts to paper, er...postings, don't always end up the way I meant for them to come across.
Just another thing...I guess I have put AtS to rest in my mind...being a pessimist and all. I really don't care what David says about the series at this point. I'm thankful for what he gave of himself and am eternally grateful for the inventor of the DVD. Just because I feel this way...doesn't mean others do...I got it and I apologize for anyones hurt feelings. Truly.

Hey...if I could apologize like this maybe David should too!!! lol...just having fun with ya!!! ;)
Apology accepted. I don't think anyone is against Davd personally. I think everyone has said that they've enjoyed him as Angel and wish him the best. But from the perspective of me and other fans of the show, it seems a little bit weird that he seems so extrememly happy about it ending and is making no attempt to hide his excitement. I'm glad he's not all bummed out and depressed about it but I think he could be a little more intouch with how the fans who sacrificed time and money to try and save his show may feel by comments like that. I just want him to tone it down a bit, say he's excited about what the future holds but don't go on and on about how wonderful it is to have the show end. Because frankly, that's just good PR. His success in future productions will most likely be determined by the fans he already has and if a large number of them are hurt by his lack of sorrow at the cancellation of Angel, it could hurt his career. Personally, that wouldn't phase me, I love him, think he was great as Angel and look forward to seeing what else he can do. But fans can be very fickle and that's just reality.

I think if he had been verbal like this earlier, before the show was canceled, people would be more accepting of it. SMG was very public about possibly not coming back for another season. And when it was over she, then and now, has said how much the part meant to her. People were prepared and knew she was ready to do new things. We didn't hear anything like that with David. We hear the show's being canceled and then this huge fan based attempt to save the show that's getting all this media attention and still nothing from David about being okay with the show ending and ready to move on. The rest of the cast is going on and on about how upset they were and how wonderful it is that the fans are doing this, and again, nothing really coming from David.

So when his first interview, and then every single one after that, goes into great detail about how thrilled he is to be done with it, it comes as kind of a shock and unexpected. I don't think he needs to apologize for being happy about it, I just think he could handle the questions a bit better without making the fans think he was sick of playing the character.

I truly think he's a wonderful person in real life and maybe because it's so fresh in his mind he's not thinking through what it really means. I'm glad he'll have more time for his wife and baby but Hollywood is a tough industry to survive in and he may not have success again like he's experienced doing Angel. I wish he'd sit back and try to enjoy what he just did and not be so eager to put it behind him and move on. I think it (the success) came too easily and he may not realize the years other actors put in before, if ever, they become successful. I think someone like James Marsters and ASH do realize that and that's why they seem so fluent in their abilities to say the things the fans like to hear.
I've never seen it written that anyone wanted DB to have a 'meltdown'. That's a bit dramatic. It was only mentioned that we were surprised that he expressed no sadness over the show ending, and only showed extreme joy. No one wants or expects him to flip out and go into a massive depression. We all wish him well in his future, we were just surprised at his attitude.
yep...Rogue...that's me...a flair for the dramatic. Depending on my moodswings!! ;)
Ahh, moodswings - my hubby is familiar with those - poor guy!
Well, what hubby isn't? And if there are any hubbies reading this going, "My wife doesn't have mood swings," then you are attractive and have many good qualities.....
