The Last Post.
Television Without Pity posts its last recap of Angel. Snarky as always, but the final grade is an A-, and 15 pages to devote to writing something is pretty impressive.
I really see TWoP as the opposite side of the coin from us in terms of how to express the love of the shows one likes. I don't mean to judge, though I probably am, but I do appreciate them, too.
One point the recap brought up that I might agree with. Since Connor has his memories back, why wouldn't he ask about Fred and Cordelia? Or does he just assume that they're still alive, but if that's the case, he saw Illyria, so now that his memories are back, wouldn't he put two and two together?

This (from the last recap): "'No bracelets, brooches, beads, pendants, pins, or rings.' Spicule was very thorough, there. But not thorough enough, as we discover when Angel laughs triumphantly and slaps a tiara on Spicule's head."
Hee.
There wouldn't be a Whedonesque if it wasn't for TWoP. I wanted a place like that (as smart but just a tad less snarky and without some of the bitterness) of my own.
But there's other goodies to enjoy at TWoP. The recap of last week's American Idol show (with 'Our Dread Lord' Clive Davis as guest host) was inspired.
But what I reaaaaally want to know is why Aaron (Sopranos recapper) was sacked/left this week.

Shack, who does American Idol, is the one who got me addicted to watching Tru Calling. His unbridled and justified hatred of that show had me in stitches every week. I was saddened when he stopped recapping it. I now have to rely on my own hatred of it for enjoyment.

Strega was great with Angel. Never understood his hatred for Wesley, but I believe a lot of the snark is exxagerated. After all, at the very end, he admits he loves the show.
Also, I really enjoy the Smallville recaps. Very hilarious.

This is my opinion, but I just think the recaps are stale and predictable and I can't stand the recappers talking about themselves. Though I have to admit: "No bracelets, brooches, beads, pendants, pins, or rings.' Spicule was very thorough, there. But not thorough enough, as we discover when Angel laughs triumphantly and slaps a tiara on Spicule's head." is FRIKIN' hilarious!

Yeah, she 'hates' Wesley, but also says he's the most developed character on the show. Hyperbole and surrealism are what a lot of recaps are about.
I don't think she hated Spike. She hated what the character developed into after the first couple of seasons. I think it was more about seeing a favourite character change beyond recognistion that sparked the 'Spicule' response. I'd have to agree with her on that.

Don't like Strega's hatred of Wes. To me it's undeserved, even though he (i think its a he, he always watches with Joanna, and talks like they are a couple, or maybe they are a gay couple?) admitted that Wes was probably the best developed character on the show. But laughing at Wesley's death? That crosses my line.
My poor, sad Wesley. Strega even quoted (and sneered at) my favorite line, when Illy turned into Fred and Wes goes "Hellooo, theerrre..." I just loved that line. How soft and sweet he said it, knowing it was a lie, and unable to keep his love from showing through. AUGH!

That said, they are often funny, and often have good points. Though this one mostly was little more than a word by word summary without many comments though. I already know what happened, thanks. And what's with the 'Spicule'? Is that a blend of 'Spike' and 'ridicule'? If so....not exactly a kneeslapper of unsurpassed brilliance.... And Spike didn't change beyond recognition. His most defining elements of today are already there plain as day in School Hard. They added to the character and revealed him, but it never countered what he was first. I never understand complaints about character growth that seems to be rooted in little more than the 'things should stay the same' feeling. Most TV shows do that already. In the Buffyverse, things and characters actually grow instead of stagnating.
But to each their own.
And they complain that the circle knows about the Shanshu when only Wolfram & Hart knew about it....Helloooo McFly, Wolfram & Hart and the Circle are all vessels of the Senior Partners. Sheesh....
"I'm pretty sure that a different answer there would have saved Lindsey's life. Mostly from the way Angel was listening."
That was an interesting line. Could be true but I'm not sure. Angel knows Lindsey by now and Lorne had seen enough of him too. But an interesting thought.
"Don't like Strega's hatred of Wes. To me it's undeserved,"
Well tastes differ and they have to riff on everything because that's what the site's about. I don't understand their hatred of Wes, or Illyria, or Spike, or.....uhm.....well of most of it. I don't really get it. They watched all of Buffy and Angel and seem to have nothing but disdain for every character and plot. And they arrive on an A??
"This sucks! That sucks! I hate that character! That's so boring! Yech! Blech! Wow that was good. I give it an A."
I'm just missing it I guess. I think I should only read their stuff on shows that I hate.....American Idol huh? I'll have a look.
