A glowing review of Astonishing X-men #1. "Go get it before it sells out already".

This is taken from one of the most dedicated X-men sites on the web. Well worth a gander!

I'm ashamed to admit that although I had marked this date on my calendar at home a few weeks back, I actually forgot this issue was coming out today.

Imagine my surprise when I get a phone call from my husband this afternoon, asking anxiously did I want him to pick up one for us on his way home from work, since I hadn't mentioned it to him last night? Awww. Talk about chalking up some serious geek-boy brownie points....

Guess I'll stick 'em in the bank to hold against any future infractions. :)
I got and read AXM. It was pretty good. The story and artwork are decent though neither is exceptional. The pacing is perfect and the dialogue is excellent. I think I'll take a while to get used to the charcters; right now the only one I like is Scott. The "bad mutants make the good mutants look bad" thing has been done before, such as in the movie X2: X-Men United, but it works here.

Overall, it was a pretty good first issue. Though not reaching great heights, it has set-up the series for (hopefully) greatness.
Nice review. Hopefully I should get it tomorrow.
Good beginning. First few pages were fantastic, especially Kitty's return. The story lacks the punch of how much amazement Morrison was able to generate in his debut issue, but he's pretty much my gold standard of comics. This is very good and I'll keep buying for sure.

The one thing that bothered me? In this issue, Beast really isn't much more than a furry Giles. I can definitely see the dangers in Whedon falling back into his most familiar character dynamics, but I think he'll be able to avoid it. Hopefully Scott and Logan's little brawl over Jean/the memory of Jean was the last we'll get of them sparring about her all year.
