UK Buffy Season 7 Review. The final year reviewed.

Not the best written review in the world and what's up with the line about everyone but SMG being under contract for a season number 8? Anyway, at least we know the R1 set probably isn't that far off. Let the widescreen discussions begin one more time.

WHAT!?! but, but, but, the commentaries... no way thats so stupid why would they make them with only subtitles!?!?
As NOLA64 says, not the greatest review. And I don't understand the subtitles thing - I have the R2 Season 7 DVD, and have happily listened to Joss' commentary in "Lessons" with not a hint of subtitles. Must be missing something.
ooh, I take that last comment back (can I?). Just checked, and there is a commentary PLUS subtitled commentary option under the Language Selection feature. Haven't seen a way to get just the subtitled commentary, but you can certainly have commentary w/o subtitles if such is your preference. Maybe the reviewer didn't figure that out?
You can choose normal soundtrack/commentary and subtitles/commentary subtitles independently in the language/subtitles menu (whereas in other seasons the commentary options are in a 'special features' menu, as far as I recall). Maybe the problem here is that in the english speaking world you don't have to bother with DVD language options much at all, so the reviewer just didn't check the language/subtitles menu.

Glad that was cleared up! I was going to be really annoyed if all the commentaries were only available in subtitles! Is the region 1 set going to have the season five montage that was shown for the finale? I know I heard that was going to be on one set and seeing that I couldn't find anything like that on the season 6 set I'm assuming it will be on the season 7 set.
Good point, blwessels, and another feature that this reviewer missed, or omitted to mention. The Gift montage was on the R2 set for season 7 as an Easter Egg (can't remember exactly where now - maybe TactGuy can say?), and there was at least one other EE I think.
Did anyone else freak out to see Captain Mal, in priestly garb, standing next to Buffy?

Just weird, in retrospect. Good but weird.
What with the lack of outtakes? I bought season 6 and watched the outtakes only to find that it was a little over two and a half minutes, I was expecting more. Hopefully for season seven's outtakes we see more of SMG goofing around and messing up, the outtakes on any Buffy box-set make the cast appear to mess up a lot, but never SMG...strange.
One explanation for the lack of SMG mess ups is that everyone says she always comes prepared and is very professional so there may not be that many or any at all.

I have to say I was disappointed with how short the outtakes were for the season six set and even wondered why they bothered. I hope the season 7 set one is longer.
The only clip of SMG "messing-up" that I've seen is taken from "I Only Have Eyes For You". In the final confrontation, now playing the part as student, she dissolves after saying "I don't give a damn about a normal life", DB softly urges her to keep going, and she tells him she can't, that she's too tired. Of course, this isn't a goof at all, but a memory flub that makes an already emotional scene completely overwhelming. (One gets the impression they'd been shooting all day). The first time I watched it, I couldn't tell whether she was staying in character, or whether it was the actress breaking down. The truly lovely part is that DB puts his hand to her cheek in a wonderfully tender way as he prompts her to continue.

The other great one from that episode is when DB enters with the line "Fun fact about waps" instead of "wasps", is completely embarrassed by his misspeak, and SMG turns to camera with a (mock) scandalized and amused look on her face and says "you can't say that on our show!".
