Angel season 4 (R1) is available for preorder at Amazon.com. The Release date is Sept. 7, 2004. ETA: A first look at Angel Season 4 Cover art.

No cover art? :(
Well, I just placed my order for 2 sets!
Has anyone been looking to see if the episode content between the two regions is identical?
Woo-hoo! All ordered. I'm thinking of it as a birthday present for Joss... ;)

(Not a good one, mind, as I get to keep it, and, well, he gave it to us first, but...) It's the thought that counts.
FINALLY, Now I am excited!!
Just ordered too! Can't wait to get it, especially now with no Buffyverse show to look forwrd to next fall (unless the animated series gets a go!).
Okay, I realize the subject of liking or disliking Season Four came up recently in another thread, but I'm beginning to feel disheartened by the degree of hatred so many on my "home" message board seem to feel for it.

Reassure me people. In my opinion Season Four was the best of all of them. Am I alone?
I don't think season four was the best of all, but I did like it. I think it will be even better once I get the DVD set and can watch everything back to back without the breaks.
Eeeeyulg. Sorry I can't reassure you Haunt... BEST?

Season 2? Three? Five? Six? And even some of 7 was way better for me than THE INITIATIVE. Bleah. (Although I absolutely adore Primeval. When the core 4 come together to make a hugely powerful - and spooky - entity? Oh yeah baby. And I love the spfx in that one, with the possible exception of glug glug Maggie Walsh. Plus funny Spike. I watch that ep pretty frequently.)

Please don't get me wrong, I love ALL BtVS, but I just can't see 4 being the best. I can't even DECIDE on a best.
I honestly can't imagine hating any season of Buffy or Angel in the first place. But as for season four, I think it was a great season that seemed to fizzle a bit once Jasmine was "born". Yes, the Cordy/Connor thing grossed me out but I realize it was supposed to (but still ick!!). Charisma just really didn't pull off being evil (but the scene when she killed Lilah was fantastic). But there were some great moments regardless of my small amount of nitpicking. Totally enjoyed the transformation of Wesley and how dark he became (and sexy), Angel/Angelus was great, Faith and Willow being there and Justine locked in the closet. And I'm sure when I get the dvd set and get to watch it straight through, commercial free and with no long periods in between episodes, I'll enjoy it even more and get more out of it.
Gawd just realized this was an Angel thread. *embarrassed*
Willowy, I think Haunt was talking about season four of Angel and not BtVS. I do agree with you though on THE INITIATIVE. Liked season four of Buffy but I'd have to say it's my least favorite. Had some great episodes though such as Hush, introduced Tara and brought Spike back for us to enjoy! So still had some good very good moments.
I see you realized it yourself. Been there, done that too with accidentally posting something in the wrong thread.
Thanks, bl, and you are right about the good in 4. Love Tara, and Hush was so scary (and good) that I still won't let my eight year old watch it. Plus Spike trying to save his own butt all season, priceless.
Just ordered mine too, I can't wait to Rot in my apartment for a weekend and watch angel 3 and 4 in one big marathon, and Haunt, I think that angel 4 may be my favorite, I'm going to have to re-watch angel 5 make my final decision. And as for Buffy season 4, I'm not huge on Adam or the initiative either, but I find that season 4 Is the most re-watchable, Just about every episode was great,(I even liked beer bad.). But anyhoo Angel 4 with it's big honking story arc and it's benevolent big bad was Just too much fun, definitely a favorite.
Thanks for the cover art link. It's exactly the same design as the others. But that's okay, they definitely make a matching set! Now I'm expecting Cordelia on the s5 box. ;)
I disagree with their cover art choice. I mean, we pretty much know it's going to be angel and spike on the season 5 set, so since their going to have to break continuity anyway, they should have had Angel and Conner on the season 4 set in my opinion.
Season 4 og Angel was bad. It started out OK, but the whining kid took over the season and it evolved almost into a soap. It was heaven when the occasional episode with little Connor arc came. But who was worst? Connor or Kennedy?
i'm personally hoping they go for a whole cast shot for season 5, with Angel in the foreground, bigger as usual

but i think it's all false hope there...

spike really didn't play a bigger part than anyone else in the season, not to the extent of Cordelia's role anyway

I think Wesley should've been on the season four cover. AD deserved to be recognized for the great portrayal of Wesley he did over the years. And I agree that a group shot would be best for season five.
As for Cordelia playing a bigger role than others, I disagree. I think Wesley's role was just as big, if not bigger. There were many episodes where Cordelia was gone on vacation or in a coma and wasn't seen at all. Wesley, on the other hand, was always a major part of the story, and had many scenes without the regular castmates. Frankly, if there hadn't already been talk about a Ripper series, a dark Wesley series would've been a great idea. I don't see any series idea that would've been plausible just revolving around Cordelia.
I found Season 4 to be immensely compelling. Incredibly powerful. Mesmerizing.
Add me to the list of those who were less than enchanted with S4, though I'm looking forward to rewatching it on DVD and perhaps revising my opinion. It had its great moments ("orpheus", faith, willow, Wesley, angelus, "Spin the Bottle"...) but neither Connor's or Cordelia's arc really worked for me (or the two of them together - blech), and since they were such a big part of the season that diminished it in my eyes. With Cordelia, in particular, it was hard to watch a charcter who had once been one of my favorites reduced to a role that was neither well-written nor well-acted. Also, and perhaps more centrally, it got into heavy darkness too early for me. With the beast introduced in episode 7, things got so dark, so quickly, that it never felt like there was much breathing room. No lighter moments, no MOTW (sometimes it's GOOD to have a break from the arc), just heavy, soap opera-y angst from week to week. I was even less taken with the Jasmine arc. I appreciate the philosophical conundrum the writers were trying to set up, but the arc just never really gelled for me – and i got terribly sick of the episodes where everyone just went around being nice and talking about how amazing Jasmine was. "Home" was a great finale, though, other episodes had moments of brilliance, and I'm hoping that the season will play better watching episodes back-to-back on DVD. More than most seasons, this one suffered from the lag time between episodes.
I mentioned this in another article but Angel S4 had almost no episode gaps. The first seven aired consecutively then there was around a two month break follwed by the remaining 15 episodee airing with only one other interruption (a two week hiatus between eps. 12 & 13).
