'Buffy' Season 7 Make-Up Continuity Book Sells for $1,200.00 on eBay. Granted, it's a great one-of-a-kind piece, but... yikes.

Wonder if ME knew about this? Since the description clearly states it was 'rescued' (ie stolen) from a bin at the studios my understanding is that it would still legaly be MEs property. Wonder if they'll get involved?
Well, it looks like Avril Lavigne bought it. Didn't know she was a fan of the show, if it is really her.
Who knew there was such a thing as a makeup continuity book? Avril (if it is her) is either a huge fan of makeup application, or she has an almost unhealthy taste for pics of people who look like they've been beaten up. Morbid much? But more importantly: $1.2K?!

However, must disagree on the legal issue. In California, at least, the act of placing something in the trash signifies that it has been abandoned and is no longer the personal property of the person abandoning it. So the taker couldn't be charged with theft under Cal law. (See 95 Cal. App.4th 1273 if you're desperately interested in the subject...) Of course, we don't know if that's really what happened in this case, and other charges might be available. Legal advice out.
About two years ago, I saw MT's knickers up on auction at eBay. They were 'rescued' from a bin as well.
I'd assume it's an Avril Lavigne fan, rather than the "singer" herself.
How much did you end up paying for them Simon? ;) (Less than $1,200 I'd hope. . . )
Heh. Wild horses wouldn't have gotten me to bid for them. I seem to remember some weirdo got them for about $600 (I think). It was a bit nasty especially as she was a minor back then.

But it's good to see Fox has no problem auctioning off Spike's boxers :).
I really doubt it was Avril who bought it. I never understood why someone would assume a celebrity's name as a fan.
Thanks for the legal info, it seems the law is different here in the UK. Not that I've ever stolen anything from anyones trash...

Seems strange they would simply throw something like that in the trash, they know the interest a fan would have, either auction it for charity or make absolutly sure it is burnt/shredded/whatever.

I think in Hollywood they don't think of these things as collectibles or something anyone would want, it's basically just work related materials to people who do this work on a daily basis, no more than normal work material for us, like paper clips, many Hollywood props were found in studio dumpsters and found their way into fan collections or auctions through the years.

Well they could sure make a buck if they were more aware that you could sell any stuff off shows like that for surprising amounts. Or at least give more to charity to sell. Like that recent charity thing were the wife and I bought some Buffy props. Amazingly cheap. I think if we went on Ebay with it, we could get a lot more. I really think they didn't know what they had there.

And yeah, once something is trash over here, it's up for grabs. Which is how the police often gets evidence if they can't get a warrant.
Truthfully I don't think they would throw it out... This is a huge thing for the show. Lots of effort goes into making that kind of book. Expecially for the cast. I know the hours in the makeup chair, then photos and being compaired to those photos is a crazy thing.

I'm sure whoever stole the things from the trash (note the whole...not all episodes were found), or wherever they stole it...should be proud of themselves. Digging through trash. How lovely.

Whoever bought it...must have money to toss.
I'm actually surprised the person used a "buy it now" option because they probably could've gotten more money than they did. Yes, $1,200 is a lot of money but a lot of fans seem willing to spend their spending money to go to many conventions, buy lots of DVDs and collectibles. As this is a unique, supposedly, one of a kind thing with a ton of behind the scenes cast pictures they probably could've had quite a lot of people bidding on it. And as Ed said, if the studio realized how much fans loved this stuff, they really could make a bundle auctioning off just about anything from the show. I was amazed at how cheaply priced the stuff for the charity thing Ed and others went to.

I couldn't afford something like that but if it was featured in a magazine I'd probably want to see the pictures. I love all the behind the scenes stuff for the dvds
It's funny how much of a Buffy fan the seller could be considering his love for 'Michelle Trachterberg,' 'Nick Brandon,''Emma Canfield' and, 'Tom Leuk.' Btw, those names were exactly copied from the eBay site.
No wonder Sarah doesn't want to do the show anymore. Did you get a good look at how unflattering those photos really are? Bloody mess. Not very appealing to deal with, day in and day out, I would assume.
And Buffy once said about vampires: "...no fuss, no muss!"
