WB: TV for people with short attention spans.
A Canadian critics perspective of the WB's attempt to hype its new fall season. BtVS mentioned a few times.
"...but because The WB is madly scrambling to find its Next Big Hit, and desperation is always fun to watch."

Does anyone know if there is any connection to that terrible Hulk Hogan film Mr.Nanny?

a line up like that actually has me backing Dark Shadows

Ouch. And also, *snicker*. I mean, 'Commando-freakin'-Nanny'? What is that??? Maybe this should be their new tagline -- "Fresh Desperation from the Frog"....

I think the fact that dreadful Tarzan show bombed enormously can be viewed as a sign of hope for the world though.

Nope me neither. Pity they didn't already have a show that filled those criteria ...
Oh that's right, they did!

(I did not intend for that to rhyme.)
It is absolutely sickening.

What a laugh riot. (chuckle, snort, guffaw!)
I wonder if the WB's next hilarious sitcom will be about those adorable starving kids in Africa and the zany warlords that sell them into slavery on cocoa farms.
Ah, who cares, anyway? It's the WB - and I'm not watching.

And neither shall I.

The best decisions I have made this year are to join my local library again, to get broadband and to sign up with a DVD by post rental service (try it guys, it’s great, I have never seen so many great films in my life).
I have almost completely stopped watching TV and the main point is that I feel I have taken control back over my ‘at home entertainment’ from a bunch of non-entities who are only concerned to pander to the lowest common denominator.
Obviously the next step is to get some friends and to get out of the house once in a while, but hey one thing at a time.

I have a feeling that the WB's new fall lineup would provide similar feelings of disgust and disbelief if I was going to bother turning it on, which I won't. Gotta keep up with my Gilmore Girls though, that's all the network is good for.

Slightly off topic but i didn't want all of the MTV channels tarred with the same pop music brush! :)

Yep, me too. Literally the last thing on the WB that we watch. Doesn't set us on fire like the ME shows but it's cute and funny. And the only 'wholesome' show out there that isn't constantly trying to teach us 'lessons' about drugs and going to church and whatnot.
EdDantes | July 17, 22:33 CET
I'm way off topic now, but oh well. Back to the WB, I may watch Global Frequency when it premieres, depending how the previews and reviews look. It does sound like an intriguing concept and gets thumbs up from the creator of the comic, so I'm interested.

I miss those days when I would stay up late to watch underground videos on 120 minutes. That was before (or maybe the start of) the *actual* alternative movement. Those were the days...
So yeah, the WB. I don't watch tv during the summer but I think I watched a rerun of The Gilmore Girls a couple weeks back and really that's about it. Every fall I look up the lineup of shows, pick the ones I think will be worth watching, and reserve time for them. But since I got hooked on the Buffyverse, that list has dwindled down to, at the most, 5 TV shows.
I don't watch sitcoms anymore except for the occasional rerun of That 70's Show. I don't watch shows that aren't story-arc driven. The Simpsons, although a brilliant show, is something that doesn't hold my attention anymore. Friends got axed from my list at the beginning of last season, and L&O SVU got boring.
With some of the shows that I watch, I either decide I don't like them or that are cancelled. Unfortunately, I had to lose 2 of the best programs (Angel and Wonderfalls) from my list.
The WB probably will not offer me anything worth watching except maybe GG and Smallville, although both of those shows I can live without.
I'm actually more interested in Alias and J.J. Abrams' new show Lost. Also, Arrested Development and The OC. I don't think I left anything out. But yeah, that's my list for next fall.
There will always be an empty place in my TV viewing experience since all the Whedonverse shows are no longer on the air, and it is a loss that will be lamented for a long time...until the next Joss show! ((hoping))
Thank the Oracles I will always have my DVDs. DVD watching is much more exciting than anything on TV anymore.

As far as sitcoms go, I have Scrubs. That's it. I'll probably give Joey a try 'cause I'm a glutton for punishment when it comes to NBC. Arrested Development has been re-airing here and I've been taping it, maybe I'll end up sticking with it. I liked the couple of episodes I caught during the regular season schedule.
Other than that, it's just new seasons of Carnivale, The Sopranos, and Deadwood to look forward to. Currently enjoying Six Feet Under Season 4. If it weren't for other people in my household watching regular cable, I'd cancel it and just have the five Movie Network channels (they import HBO programs on those for Canadian viewers), and switch to mostly DVD viewing.
I'm a little curious about Lost. Maybe Life As We Know It as well, 'cause it's based on a book called "Doing It" by Melvin Burgess, a favorite UK author of mine. Sure, it looks like your average teen fare, but it's written/produced by two guys from the Freaks & Geeks/Undeclared team. Otherwise, the Fall season looks sparse.
