WB: TV for people with short attention spans. A Canadian critics perspective of the WB's attempt to hype its new fall season. BtVS mentioned a few times.

"...but because The WB is madly scrambling to find its Next Big Hit, and desperation is always fun to watch."

My anger level keeps rising. I can't believe they would take off Angel with hardly a believable reason, but put on Commando Nanny, which sounds exruciatingly bad.

Does anyone know if there is any connection to that terrible Hulk Hogan film Mr.Nanny?
this..is just embarassing. not just embarassing for the WB, but an embarassment--and an insult--to human intelligence

a line up like that actually has me backing Dark Shadows

The second job seems to have a new person in it each press tour.

Ouch. And also, *snicker*. I mean, 'Commando-freakin'-Nanny'? What is that??? Maybe this should be their new tagline -- "Fresh Desperation from the Frog"....
Ahhh I think Commando Nanny is actually become the embodiment of all our grievances and the pinnacle of WB stupidity. I know I shouldn't knock what I haven't seen but dear lord how could THIS ever be any good.

I think the fact that dreadful Tarzan show bombed enormously can be viewed as a sign of hope for the world though.
So does anyone see any of the shows that the WB have brought in to freshen up their schedule having the potential to gather a strong, consistent fanbase and run for five seasons regardless of whether they bother to promote it or not and despite whether they constantly move it around in the schedule giving it a worse slot each time?

Nope me neither. Pity they didn't already have a show that filled those criteria ...

Oh that's right, they did!
Heh. Thank god Australia won't get a lot of these shows. Although, with some of the decisions the channels have been making lately...
Welcome to the world of "Fast-Food TV" brought to you by the WB.
(I did not intend for that to rhyme.)

It is absolutely sickening.
Commando Nanny? I guess he's going to whip those bratty kids into shape by terrifying them with tales of all the people he's killed and raped and pillaged in some unnamed Third-world country somewhere.

What a laugh riot. (chuckle, snort, guffaw!)

I wonder if the WB's next hilarious sitcom will be about those adorable starving kids in Africa and the zany warlords that sell them into slavery on cocoa farms.

Ah, who cares, anyway? It's the WB - and I'm not watching.
Ah, who cares, anyway? It's the WB - and I'm not watching.

And neither shall I.
Haven't watched the WB since NFA. So I won't be watching any "fresh" episodes of Commando Nanny, FoxUNworthy, Carey, or any of the other drek the WB has planned for the new season. It's still the Why Bother network, as far as I am concerned.
I agree with you palehorse...I too have not watched the WB since the end of AtS...in fact...lol...I have it blocked so my kids won't watch it either! I will only return for the Whedonverse, period.
Hopefully Joss will never have to deal with them again. I'd much rather see him shine on HBO. Inasmuch, the WickedBad network is off my telly.
The really sad thing is that most of this rubbish will end up imported onto our UK TV screens sooner or later, even when you guys have been smart enough to reject it. (Don’t believe me, I just mention that Sky One recently started to broadcast Tarzan. Honestly, there is no stopping these people.)

The best decisions I have made this year are to join my local library again, to get broadband and to sign up with a DVD by post rental service (try it guys, it’s great, I have never seen so many great films in my life).

I have almost completely stopped watching TV and the main point is that I feel I have taken control back over my ‘at home entertainment’ from a bunch of non-entities who are only concerned to pander to the lowest common denominator.

Obviously the next step is to get some friends and to get out of the house once in a while, but hey one thing at a time.
I've spent most of my time since the TV season ended watching Buffy and Angel DVDs, as well as turning the tube on once a week to catch the magnificent Six Feet Under. So, imagine my culture shock after months of wallowing in quality television, when I somehow got sucked into watching a full hour of MTV's TRL. You want to see the speedy decline of western civilization on display and feel your brain cells leaping to their doom? Try watching it. Just once. I dare ya.

I have a feeling that the WB's new fall lineup would provide similar feelings of disgust and disbelief if I was going to bother turning it on, which I won't. Gotta keep up with my Gilmore Girls though, that's all the network is good for.
I JUST started watching the Gilmore Girls after buying the pilot on DVD for $3.99 and was hooked. I then bought the 1st season dvd and have to say, it is pretty good. The writing is smart and funny. I caught a few episodes from this past season and don't think it is as strong as it was when it started, but it is far better than the majority of the other shows out there.
MindPieces, whilst i would wholeheartedly agree about the massive decline of MTV that has resulted in shows such as TRL i have to say that MTV2 massively makes up for it with quality shows and actual good solid music, something the pop obsessed MTV has long since abandoned.

Slightly off topic but i didn't want all of the MTV channels tarred with the same pop music brush! :)
"Gotta keep up with my Gilmore Girls though, that's all the network is good for."

Yep, me too. Literally the last thing on the WB that we watch. Doesn't set us on fire like the ME shows but it's cute and funny. And the only 'wholesome' show out there that isn't constantly trying to teach us 'lessons' about drugs and going to church and whatnot.
Don't worry Darkest Soul, I love MTV2. They seem to have invented this crazy, completely off-the-wall concept where they actually play VIDEOS. You know, those moving picture thingees that have music in them? If you watch regular MTV for too long you'll completely forget what they are. Either that or you'll wonder why a random girl in a bubble doesn't pop up in the corner and scream "I wanna give a shout-out to my boyfriend Tim and I gotta say I love Nick Lachey cause he is SO HOT!! Wooooooooooooooo!!" Oh, how I love that.

I'm way off topic now, but oh well. Back to the WB, I may watch Global Frequency when it premieres, depending how the previews and reviews look. It does sound like an intriguing concept and gets thumbs up from the creator of the comic, so I'm interested.
Wow, MindPieces. I haven't watched MTV in eons, it seems. The last time I watched it, it was pretty much RapTV with some Real World and Road Rules mixed in.

I miss those days when I would stay up late to watch underground videos on 120 minutes. That was before (or maybe the start of) the *actual* alternative movement. Those were the days...

So yeah, the WB. I don't watch tv during the summer but I think I watched a rerun of The Gilmore Girls a couple weeks back and really that's about it. Every fall I look up the lineup of shows, pick the ones I think will be worth watching, and reserve time for them. But since I got hooked on the Buffyverse, that list has dwindled down to, at the most, 5 TV shows.

I don't watch sitcoms anymore except for the occasional rerun of That 70's Show. I don't watch shows that aren't story-arc driven. The Simpsons, although a brilliant show, is something that doesn't hold my attention anymore. Friends got axed from my list at the beginning of last season, and L&O SVU got boring.

With some of the shows that I watch, I either decide I don't like them or that are cancelled. Unfortunately, I had to lose 2 of the best programs (Angel and Wonderfalls) from my list.

The WB probably will not offer me anything worth watching except maybe GG and Smallville, although both of those shows I can live without.

I'm actually more interested in Alias and J.J. Abrams' new show Lost. Also, Arrested Development and The OC. I don't think I left anything out. But yeah, that's my list for next fall.

There will always be an empty place in my TV viewing experience since all the Whedonverse shows are no longer on the air, and it is a loss that will be lamented for a long time...until the next Joss show! ((hoping))

Thank the Oracles I will always have my DVDs. DVD watching is much more exciting than anything on TV anymore.

If it weren't for "Arrested Development", I might as well put up a sign on my tv,"Abandon hope, all you who enter here".
Have I mentioned lately how much I miss "Firefly"? Watching the DVD leaves me wanting more...oh so much more. I cannot wait for "Serenity"!!!
I'll still tune in to Smallville next year. I kept saying I wouldn't, 'cause the majority of Season 3 just sucked. Even as a guilty pleasure the show sucked. But it had a good cliffhanger and I know I'll turn to it due to nothing else being on. It's the same with when Firefly was canned. Enterprise, which I'd been watching more out of habit than anything, became my required sci-fi viewing. Luckily it improved in its third season and I'll be watching the fourth (and most likely final) season 'cause I'm genuinely interested in what'll happen and invested in a two or three of the characters, but it's nowhere close to being a replacement for Firefly (I haven't tried out Babylon 5 or Farscape yet, so according to most sci-fi fans there's still a lot of quality material for me to watch).

As far as sitcoms go, I have Scrubs. That's it. I'll probably give Joey a try 'cause I'm a glutton for punishment when it comes to NBC. Arrested Development has been re-airing here and I've been taping it, maybe I'll end up sticking with it. I liked the couple of episodes I caught during the regular season schedule.

Other than that, it's just new seasons of Carnivale, The Sopranos, and Deadwood to look forward to. Currently enjoying Six Feet Under Season 4. If it weren't for other people in my household watching regular cable, I'd cancel it and just have the five Movie Network channels (they import HBO programs on those for Canadian viewers), and switch to mostly DVD viewing.

I'm a little curious about Lost. Maybe Life As We Know It as well, 'cause it's based on a book called "Doing It" by Melvin Burgess, a favorite UK author of mine. Sure, it looks like your average teen fare, but it's written/produced by two guys from the Freaks & Geeks/Undeclared team. Otherwise, the Fall season looks sparse.
