(SPOILER) Marvel hypes Astonishing X-Men #4. They claim the issue is so shocking, they can't even show you the cover. This'll be out Aug 25th. Update: All The Rage claims to have the scoop on this one. Warning: it does give the game away.

My comic book dealer, er, store owner, says that this issue is coming out with a variant cover. 1/6 or 1/10 (he couldn't remember) will have the special art.

Just to give Simon something to fume over on a Sunday afternoon... :-)
*Fumes* :P.
Well if my sources are correct, and they usually are, then i know who the mysterious returning X-Man is.

I'll be kind and not reveal it here though, despite the spoiler warning on the thread.

I will say this though, all of the X-characters mentioned in the poll at the linked page either have returned or will be returning at some point according to various online comic book sites so even if this issue doesn't deliver the one you want you won't have to wait much longer anyway ;)
Yeah, if you go to the Astonishing X-men section of the marvel store, they have had the cover up for months. I will say the one I saw was pretty awesome.

Edit: It seems they have changed the covers around on the ASX page, So it has the ASX4 cover shown as top secret.

Didn't they show a picture of who was coming back? I could have sworn I saw a picture of someone(I won't say who) flying upward, with flames around them.
Gio the last page of issue 4 mistakenly got released online a few weeks back which I think is what you are referring too.
Hmmmm maybe I was wrong in thinking who was coming back, you can find a pic of who is actually returning here.

Warning: it does give the whole game away.
If that is the case then what i heard was wrong as well Simon.

So either the "official" rumour i heard about a certain female X-Man returning from the dead was a foiler or Marvel are being especially sneaky and the pic you posted there is in fact the foiler.

Guess we will have to wait and see.
The Neopagan: I know Marvel are doing a five part mini-series about that female character you are referring to and this'll be taken from events that happen in Astonishing X-Men.
Actually it wasn't that female character i meant Simon although i did know of the mini series in question. By the way are you aware that it may not be a resurrection of the mutant herself that the series deals with, more the entity that the series is named after.

It was another fairly recently departed female X-Man that i was told was due for a return during Joss' run though.

All this talking in code for the benefit of the unspoiled is becoming a little complicated, hehe.
This is why we use invisible text for really big spoilers i.e.

<Span class="invisible">the text you want made invisible</span>

And we get (highlight with mouse):

So The Neoagan, in answer to you what you said:
Okay, giving this html stuff a go then. There is a reason i'm into paganism and not computers y'know, too much of this internet info makes my head spin!

Anyway, let's see if i can get this to work.

The girl in question is

Cool, it worked, hehe.

Now this storyline had been linked to Joss' book but i'm now wondering if it will occur in a different X-book altogether.
Thanks for that, the only X-Men comic book (apart from Astonishing X-Men and the Ultimate one) I have been reading in the last couple of years was New X-Men cause Grant Morrison was writing it. So unfortunately I haven't a clue about what has happened in other X-Men comic books.
No problem Simon. If there is one fictional reality outside of Buffy and Angel i'm an authority on it would be the Marvel Universe.

Never had much of a taste for the Ultimate books though to be honest. I'm definately an original MU kinda guy. Been reading it for the better part of two decades now so there must be something about it i like :)
In all honesty, before I clicked on the link, I thought it would be the person in the Simon-linked picture. With who Joss is using already, and considering what a geek he is, it made the most sense.
Can anyone explain what the 'Ultimate' thing is all about? I'm not much with the superhero comics (though I have many, many issues of Cerebus and Elfquest) but I keep on seeing 'Ultimate Brandname-man' mentioned in places and I have no idea what it refers to.
Wow. Joss Whedon bringing dead characters back to life because it's convenient and he wants to. How shocking.
Giles, the Ultimate line of comics is Marvel's way of making it's main cashcows more appealing to new readers who don't want to wade through 40+ years of continuity to get into the universe. It started around the time the first Spider-Man and X-Men movies were released. There's a Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Avengers ultimate title (but to be really confusing, the Avengers title is called Ultimates and they're printing it in 12 issue arcs, the plan is for the book to "reboot" every 12 issues. So, it's more of a maxi-series than an ongoing).
Well I know the most shocking part will be him finishing the whole 12 arc series within the deadline time. :)
Giles, put very basically the Ultimate line takes the main characters from the existing Marvel Universe and rewrites the story.

For example, the X-Men book features Wolverine, Cyclops, Prof X, Magneto etc but in a new continuity, seperate to that of the established Marvel Universe.

It was Marvel's way of making the characters more accessible to newer, younger readers coming in after seeing the movies or cartoon series. Expecting them to understand over 40 years worth of continuity was asking a lot i guess.

Personally i'm too attached to the original versions to be interested in these newbies though :)
