A Word From Joss. Some funny (of course) musings from our favorite genius.

-sigh- i just ADORE joss to no end. :)
I was wondering when he was going to appear on the Serenity blog.
Ummm, cinematographer Jack Green...

I can't help it, I'm a cinematographer groupie - and Joss always has the very *best* of the Best and Gifted folks behind the lens shooting his images! I've got the Big Time Hots for his editors, too. We never get to see these folks, but they are the ones who "paint the picture" and then make it dance in front of our eyes.

I'm off to anticipation-land now. Tell me, isn't there some way we can get the premiere of "Serenity" moved up?? Next year seems so very far away....
Buffyfanatic18, gotta agree with you there. Do you suppose all that funny comes naturally or does he slave over his writing the way us mortals do?
It's like he's come to visit us. Nice of him to drop in over there.
I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas...I *know* it's coming, and time will do what it does, but, damn, I wish I could be in the third week of April 2005 like *right now*!

wissxwe, I am so with you on that...guess it's highly improbable, these schedules being the unruly beasts that they are...but...6 months of waiting knowing that it's already done...painful, just painful.

He's not my favorite genius. He's my only (living) genius. The man is gifted beyond my poor power to convey...just astounding.
Mmmm Joss. Man I love that guy. What a funny and sexy, sexy man. I'm now on cloud 9. I can hardly wait for April 22nd.
Ah man that was so funny. Good catch Willowy, I always plan to regularly check that site out, but then I forget. Geez I love this guy. "people prettier than me are not supposed to be funnier than me" That one already had me rolling. I'm saving this one.

"I'm off to anticipation-land now. Tell me, isn't there some way we can get the premiere of "Serenity" moved up?? Next year seems so very far away.... "

I hear that. Hell I wish I could go tomorrow! But I think it's probably smart to bring it out in a quiet movie time. I mean if it has to go up against something like Spiderman 2 or Star Wars 3 or something it's just gonna get buried, you know? If there's nothing but the next Hillary Duff flick or another 'Dude where's my brain?' as competition then I think it'll do fine.

Grrrr big box office, come on....trilogy, come on you can do it....let's go....come to poppa...
No suits hovering and suggesting changes...? Even Lucas, who could fund the next three SW movies out of his own pocket, was bitching a coulpe of days ago about studio interference!

They must love (and trust) Joss as much as we do!
I dunno, I have to be contrarian here. That wacky and absurdist humor blended with creativity, a deep understanding of our shared humanity, and a good helping of common decency grows oh so thin after a while.

Personally I'm waiting for Howard Stern to tell us that Joss is the latest victim of the "Lynch" syndrome, afflicting creator-writers of hit visionary tv shows. Joss is clearly washed-up.
Serenity April 22nd. Star Wars Episode III May something or other. Wesley the Movie??? :)
And that is what sets Joss apart from other writers/directors. He talks to the fans as they are an integral whole to the story. He doesn't waste time explaining his comments because he knows the people who matter the most to him will understand. Thanks for story, Willowy.
Psst, SNT, add a winky-smile to your post! People who missed the sarcasm are gathering fruits and various meats!;-)
What, EdDantes, you think I wasn't being serious?

Wellll, OK then here ya go: ;);););) And yet it seems to me if Whedonesque-rs can get JW's dry humor, they can surely get mine. OTOH, maybe there's a reason he's Joss Whedon and I am . . . whoever I am.

ShotgunWes: you mean people are actually looking forward to seeing "Revenge of the Sith"? First I'd heard about it . .
This is sort of off-topic, but does Gina Torres do voice-overs for Downy commercials? I swear I heard her voice in a commercial just now.
See this is why we have a sarcasm text colour at Whedonesque ;).

the text you want to make sarcastic
My son's birthday is the 22nd of April - he's almost a teenager and he wants to go to Serenity as a birthday present. I do hope it gets a mellow rating. I, of course, want to go as well - and I think I've sold my hubby on Firefly/Serenity - which I couldn't do regarding Buffy or Angel for some strange reason.
Oooh! Pretty purple! Can I make all my posts this color?
Gee, thanks Simon!

I see the reason for it, and it's an awfully pretty hue, but I couldn't possibly alert people to sarcasm in that way. Takes all the fun out of it . . .

Is there a color for "wow that writer's ignorance is matched only by his or her incredibly poor spelling and grammar"?

And, BTW, one of the great fringe benefits of being a Brit in the US is that the natives are just so darn friendly and take so much of what you say at face-value. :)

If you do, Willowy, then we will assume everything you say is sarcasm.
Simon, you realize you've created a monster, right?

We hear even less from Joss these days. Are the ME writers posting at the Beta Bronze anymore? I should check the Bronze VIP archive.

Mmm, garlic muscles in cilantro broth.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm hanging on the words, "Good things are coming". Could he possibly mean...good Angel-y things??! I sure hope so.
Your welcome Ed and Madhatter. Imagine my elation when I stumbled upon it. New words! No warning! Just poof there it was.

And how cool of him to write us (fans, I mean). The only thing that would've made it better is if he posted here. Oh well, someday! Not complaining though. I'll take every scrap there is.

We love you Joss...
Tim still posts at Buffistas and other places. Joss hasn't posted at Buffistas or anywhere else in awhile. Fury plugged Lost at the Beta awhile ago. The writers don't seem as 'net active as they once were, though. Sort of tapered off when the plug was pulled on the Bronze.
Thanks Willowy! This made my day! Love Joss - dying of anticipation for this movie!
yay for pretty colors! Mmm, Joss looks like such a geeky guy, but man he's almost enough to make a straight married guy get all gayed up. Gay me up willow! I am so fricken excited about this BDM! Huzzah!
I just woke up and was checking the board when....what? This is the price I pay for being slow in my typing skills. People, when I posted my above statement, SoddingNancyTribe wasn't even in the thread. I was referring to Joss' message. In no way was I making a response to SNT's post, I haven't even seen it. I understand the replies afterwards. With the way my post was right after his, I would have thought the same. But that isn't the case.

I'm sorry for the trouble, SoddingNancyTribe. In no way was my post directed towards yours. BTW, that was good! :)
Ooooh a sarcasm color!! Can I resist??

Nope! Now for something really sarcastic to say! Uhm....damn...wouldn't ya know it.....can't think of a thing....oh well.

"you mean people are actually looking forward to seeing "Revenge of the Sith"? First I'd heard about it . . "

Hey now, some of us actually still harbour hope that this will be the movie that might actually make the prequel trilogy worthwhile. It could happen! It could happen I tell you! You know why? Shut up, that's why! Pant pant.....please let it be good.....please....hmm..should that have been in purple?

"And how cool of him to write us (fans, I mean). The only thing that would've made it better is if he posted here. Oh well, someday! Not complaining though. I'll take every scrap there is."

Right there with ya. Course it would be kinda cool if he posted here once.... Till then we'll entertain ourselves with the notion he knows of the board and occasionally glances at us...hehe.

"Mmm, Joss looks like such a geeky guy, but man he's almost enough to make a straight married guy get all gayed up. Gay me up willow!

Let's gay! Although I gotta say Joss.....Nathan IS prettier.....
I can almost hear his voice giving life to the words he wrote, he really writes how he speaks. He is one gifted, articulate man.

It also made me a little sad reading his words, because, you know, no new Buffyverse/Angelverse from the creator.
ditz, how do you know that? What in his statement made you think that?

I didn't get that impression at all. I've no doubt that eventually, we will get more Joss-created stories featuring our slayer and/or her vamps. It just may take a while.
On the Serenity board he's addressing Firefly fans, so I wouldn't really expect anything about Buffy/Angel.
Just to clear this up -

Madhatter: I didn't for a second think that your post related or referred to mine. And all the subsequent comments about the sarcasm font sprung from my silliness. This: "it seems to me if Whedonesque-rs can get JW's dry humor, they can surely get mine" was a reference to a generic board member, not to you.

No harm, no foul, no more comments. Don't give up. :)

"when I posted my above statement, SoddingNancyTribe wasn't even in the thread" - see, this is my problem. Lately I've been feeling totally out-of-thread. Just gotta get more thready.
electric space girl,
I thought I heard Gina Torres doing the voiceover for a -- gasp! -- Bush campain ad. Anyone able to confirm that, or the Downy ad? I hope I'm wrong.
Electricspacegirl-in regards to your comment about Gina Torres doing the downey commercials, it's either her or that lady who is (or was)the medical examiner on Law and Order:SVU. Not sure which, though.

Thank you, SoddingNancyTribe. Again, no harm and no foul. Our words were taken out of content. BTW, I need to get as thready as well. :)
Yeah Madhatter, I don't know if you thought I was referring to you but I really wasn't. When I read your recent posts I had to doubleback up to see what you were on about. I was just referring to SNT sarcastic joking up there. You know he was sarcastic about Joss the way Joss was about his whole serenity and joked on top of that. Never let the opportunity pass by to make a 'fruit and various meat' joke. But I hadn't even read your post at that time, was jost joshin' to SNT.

And I can't really see anybody else talking about what you said or taking it out of context either. Everyone was just enthused about the sarcasm purple. Cuz we're all a sarcastic bunch;-)
Joss posting anything anywhere on the 'net... eeeee, Eeeee, EEEEEE! {faint}{THUMP}
Lioness-
i've often wondered the same thing myself! :)
And my favorite color is the sarcasm font color choice? Perfect. Like this board needs any help with being more colorful than it already is.

A man with warmth and humor who loves Thai food (and cooks, or so I deduce, except for that unfortunate serviche incident...), kicks ass in the brain department, and is an unstoppable force bent on saving the known universe from crap. Damn. There must be a serious blemish on JW's character or person, somewhere, but what? Does he have a sixth toe? A bifurcated ... something? What?

Incidentally, I may never forgive Joss for scheduling Serenity's opening for the same night as my 8th wedding anniversary. Instead of a leisurely Thai meal out on the town and, y'know, other unprintable stuff, I have to go sit in a movie theater with a bunch of maniacally enthusiastic people dressed in shades of brown (whether or not any of them will happen to be friends of mine is immaterial) and forcibly enjoy myself. (Probably several times!) I ask you: Is this fair?

Actually, I'm expecting some seriously snuggle-worthy moments amongst all the mordantly witty repartee and killin'. Kind of like marriage, when you think about it.

[Edited because the sarcasm font is evil in its beauty, and seduced me away from the economy and grace of the occasional emoticon, into a double post. The horror. Oh, and yeah, serves me right!]

Ditz - "It also made me a little sad reading his words, because, you know, no new Buffyverse/Angelverse from the creator."

Willowy - "I didn't get that impression at all. I've no doubt that eventually, we will get more Joss-created stories featuring our slayer and/or her vamps. It just may take a while."

I was wondering where Ditz got that impression myself. As Dreamlogic pointed out this is posted at a Serenity board so it would be unlikely that he would add "By the way, more slayerverse coming soon!" at the end of his post. Kinda disrespectful to the Serenity guys.

As for Serenity, i have to admit that i'm looking forward to seeing this a lot more than i thought i would be. I'm not a science fiction fan by any stretch of the imagination. I don't watch a lot of television but my love of all things supernatural got me addicted to the slayerverse. Firefly was never going to be as important to me as Buffy or Angel became but i watched it out of loyalty to Joss. I really did enjoy the show and thought it deserved to continue (it was a Joss Whedon creation afterall), probably due to the fact it avoided all the usual scifi stereotypes that you see on Star Trek and the various other shows. No bumpy headed or pointy eared but otherwise totally human looking aliens for Joss.

Whilst my personal tastes mean that i would much rather we were looking forward to the first in a possible trilogy of Buffy/Angel movies i'm still going to be there for the opening night of Serenity.
Oh I think I have given the wrong impression.....I was just commenting on the fact that here was 'the creator' of my favourite 'verses' speaking, and what I want to hear from him is something positive in respect to the continuation of such.

I was feeling a little blue (as opposed to 'pretty purple') and this comment was released from my fingers. I understand that his post was totally in respect to his excitment over Serenity, and definitely is not the forum for any Buffy/Angel talk. Hey, I loved Firefly and am really excited as well that I will get to see the story continue on the silver screen. Greedily, I just want more from the Buffy/Angelverses, and it is all 'ifs and buts' on that front.

Sorry if I caused unnecessary comment, it was probably the wrong time and place for me to channel. Love you Joss!
"The incessant meddling of the studio: where was it? We waited and waited, what, are they all too busy and important to take the time to ruin my little film?"

Does this mean Joss gets to sing '...and I did it myyyy waaaaay!' at the premiere?
Bloodflowers, what an excellent idea. After all, he sang "Grr Aaagh" once....

(Long-time lurker, now newbie.)
But the most important part is that Joss mentioned the fan booth at Wizard World, put on by the fabulous Chicagoland Browncoats! I just got back from the Browncoat Ball and it was fantastic. I'll post more when I can form coherent thoughts.
Mmmmm! Tasty garlic mussels in a cilantro broth!
