Gellar wants to be Bond. "I don't see why Bond shouldn't be played by an actress."

Umm yeah, we've kinda done this one before.
It is odd that it's just reappeared though I'm not putting much stock in this website.

And Gellar isn't the only one to want to follow Pierce Brosnan. Canadian actor Jim Carrey has become an American citizen, so he can vote in the coming presidential election, and follows in the footsteps of the Irishman.

I'd find it hard to write a less coherent sentence.
The Irish Examiner is a woeful paper. I don't think it has any redeeming factors. And the fact that the rumour has re-appeared, can be put down to lazy journalists going through umpteem news articles about Sarah and finding a jokey quote and hyping it completely out of context.
Sounds about right, it's the kind of thing I'd expect of the Daily Star or the Sun so if the Irish Examiner is of a similar standard then it's no surprise at all.
SMG can't play Bond because the character is a man, same reason he could never be played by a (not being racist) colored person, the character is a white man, why ridiculous suggestions like this come up between every Bond film I don't know.
An obvious one, I know: but looking forward to SMG smooching Miss Moneypenny

Did I mention I went to an all girls boarding school?

In spite of this, if we have a female Bond the real question is, who are going to be the new Bond boys?
The films have strayed so far from the spirit of the Ian Fleming novels, that a woman probably could play Bond on screen without too many alterations.
The character is only white because he's always been played by white men--there's nothing inherent in the character to make him white. Female is more of a problem but not a huge obstacle. The biggest one I can think of is the "Bond, James Bond" tagline.

And, yeah, that last sentence is a loo loo.
Alexis Denisof is the best bet for a buffyverse alumn Bond.
Yeah, with those "Pierce Brosnan-y eyes"...
AD really would be fabulous as Bond. When Pierce Brosnan was on Remington Steele, I used to think "he should be Bond". I've thought the same thing of AD for a while now.
Hey, they made Starbuck a chick. STARBUCK! Probably the randiest man in sci-fi next to Kirk.

I know he doesn't compare to the icon that is Bond. Still, they made him a woman! Still can't get over that...
I agree, AD for Bond! -swoon-
Willowy: are you talking about Starbuck as in "Battlestar Galactica" Starbuck? Or is there another Starbuck of whom I am unaware? I suppose I just never thought of Starbuck as randy. Might be the whole straight-male issue that I have. Now Col. Wilma Deering on the other hand, corrr . . .

I could get into a female Bond (wasn't there one in the "Casino Royale" 60s spoof?), but I'm not sure I see SMG in the role. Maybe Stephanie Romanov? (beautiful, amoral, physical, uh, you get where I'm coming from(.
SNT yep that's the one. And yep again, he was quite the skirt-chaser. Although Cassiopea (sp) eventually won his heart...awww.
Willowy"Hey, they made Starbuck a chick. STARBUCK! Probably the randiest man in sci-fi next to Kirk."

Yeahh....wasn't crazy about that. Starbuck was the 'Han Solo' of Battlestar. Don't make him a girl! And I don't see the point anyway, other than shock value.

As for Sarah doing Bond, I've always found it an odd thing for her to say. Especially considering that when asked what superhero she'd like to play she said she'd prefer it to be an original rather than an existing one. Well Buffy was an original super hero, but guess what; Bond is kind of a spy-superhero that existed already.

As for the man-woman thing, I never like it when race or gender are switched since it inherently makes for a different character. Sarah as 'Jane Bond'? (Wasn't that a porn flick from the 80's?)

Hell, let's cast Tom Cruise as 'Buffo the Vampire Slayer' for the next movie then.
I don't know but what's wrong with a female bond? I like it! A female bond is believable, manipulating men like the male Bond does to women, she would have to be in good physical shape so I think SMG won't do. She looks very thin and doesn't have an athletic muscled body, it would need someone who looks more like an Angelie Jolie.
Gellar may want to be Bond. So? I wanted to portray Beast Boy in the Teen Titans movie. We can't always be what we want.
I thought James Bond was a person, not just a name assigned to people who have that job. It's not a codename, is it? Because that would be something of a shock after watching it all these years with no mention of that.

The problem with casting a woman in the part of James Bond, is that James Bond is not a woman. Much the same reason why Alyson Hannigan isn't the new Superman, and why Amy Acker isn't the new Batman. Perhaps they could make a Buffy movie and cast Pierce Brosnan as Buffy? That'd be excellent.
It seems that some of you believe she really wants to be Bond. If you read the first link Simon provided you'd see it was a joke. Halle Berry actually said it first and SMG then joked that she wanted to be Bond too.

As for the comment that James Bond has to be white, well I disagree with that. I think Denzel Washington would be yummy as bond. Also agree that AD would make a most excellent bond but rumors have it that the guy from Nip/Tuck is the possible next Bond and I also think he'd be yummy as well!
" If you read the first link Simon provided you'd see it was a joke. Halle Berry actually said it first and SMG then joked that she wanted to be Bond too."

Well that's good.

And sorry, but no, I hate it when they change classic characters that much. Why do it? What's the added value? So Sarah could seduce men like Bond seduces women. What does that add?

I hate it because when I want to go see a character, I want to see that character. A black man will have had a different life than a white man, and been through different things. Same for a woman. It will be a different character. And if I'm going to be watching a different character anyway, let it be a really new and interesting character.

So I can't enjoy it as the old, since it's too different. But as a new character it's way too derivative and will feel like a knock off so I can't like that either. Just create a new female spy character then. (Like they did in Alias. She's not a Bond knock-off) Or a black american spy guy starring Denzel and really do something different. Then I'll be interested. But give them new names then too, because there's really no reason to keep the old ones.

Like in 'Blade-Trinity'. In the trailers I see they added 'Hannibal King'. I know the old Tomb of Dracula series and I can already tell that besides the name, this guy will have next to nothing in common with the original. Why even keep the name? May as well call him 'Max Power'.

And sorry, but if Tom Cruise did starr as 'Buffo' I have a feeling most of you would be slightly less enthusiastic about the changing of characters.
Mmmm, Blade:Trinity...

I just love those movies. The music ROCKS. And I like the Vampire Rules they use. Never read the comic, but I reeallly like Blade. I even have his action figure.

So Ed, will you still see the movie? Or is the guy they got to play that character going to ruin it for you?

It's due out at Christmas, yes? By the way, the trailer is very, very cool.
I think Brosnan inhabited the role as well as Connery did. It's going to be hard to get used to another actor again. A woman as Bond? No thanks, half the fun of Bond is drooling over someone looking really really good in a tux. Spin off the franchise, create a different character all together, but let Bond remain male.
With Brosnan out of the role...Bond has now died for me. I can see Julian McMahon fitting the bill...but my Bond is Pierce. Always will be. Even though the last movie sucked bigtime. Halle Berry saying "yo mama". Whatever. Now it just pisses me off that she had to ruin the last Brosnan-Bond movie for me. *bitter - party of one*
OK - I can't wait to see Blade:Trinity - I loved the other two movies so I really hope the third one will be good too.

Brosnan was an excellent Bond - a couple of people have mentioned Julian McMahon as the next Bond ... and yes I can see that - he has that special something. I don't watch Nip and Tuck but I remember him from Charmed (a show which I can't sit through anymore but watched ocassionally when he was on it just because I really liked him)

When all is said though - I believe Timothy Dalton should have won an Oscar for his performance as Bond! :)
What is that sarcasim font tag? If I remembered it I'd used it above.
